EOS-M / Re: New Lens, New Firmware for EOS-M

I wonder if the improved AF speed will also come to the rebels featuring the "hybrid-AF-sensor"...

EOS Bodies / Re: Any news on the SL1 sensor?
« on: May 13, 2013, 03:12:23 PM »
However, DXO has tested the raw output of the T5i which has the same sensor as the SL1,
Wrong. As far as I read the news, the sensor of the SL1/100D is "new", the sensor of the T5i/700D is the one used already in the T4i/650D.

My first (D)SLR was the 400D, I chose Canon over Nikon, because I liked the colors out-of-cam better...

However, nowadays, I'd go for the D5200...

EOS Bodies / ...no CR rating?
« on: March 19, 2013, 05:00:01 PM »
How come there is no CR rating at this one?
When I first saw the rumor I was pretty sure that it's fake. The images of the 700D where from the 650D and the spec list is a 1:1 copy of the 650D. Starting from the 300D, there was never a successor of a xxxD with a spec list so close to its predecessor than this 700D.

I don't believe it.  8)

However, if it turns out to be true, I'll keep my 400D for another two years.
(or sell all the stuff and run over to nikon ;-))

Update: the rubber grips are different from those on a 650D. It really seems to be the 700D. Damn.

Lenses / Re: Bridge not sharp - why?
« on: March 11, 2013, 04:21:52 AM »
A few things:
1/20th is waaaay too slow a shutter speed if you're shooting over 70mm...tripod or not. In cinema, even on a 50lb, $20,000 tripod, we never start action until a few seconds after rolling, as you need time for the camera to settle. [...]

125 ISO is way too low. Boost it and increase your shutter speed.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon EOS-1D C Available for Preorder from B&H Photo
« on: December 01, 2012, 04:17:14 AM »
What I do not get is why they are putting such a clearly "videographer"-spec'd system in a DSLR body and not in a movie camera body like Cxxx...  ???

Underwater / Re: 1 5dMK II, 6 Countries, All Underwater
« on: November 17, 2012, 06:29:33 AM »
Did you use only the available light? Especially the colors of the turtle and the corals at 1:39 areamazing! Not always given underwater as you of course perfectly now...

Edit: ah, and which housing did you use?

PowerShot Cameras / Re: Is this a G1X killer?
« on: June 06, 2012, 08:51:35 AM »
It'll rather be a S100 killer... depending on the real price of course...
I really like that the companies FINALLY come to larger sensors in small cameras. That's what I've been waiting for since 2006. No, wait, I decided to buy the 400D back then... ;)

(thank god it's busted)

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS-1D X f/8 to be Added? [CR1]
« on: February 05, 2012, 12:19:59 PM »
Hum... as far as I understood the AF-sensor, adding f/8 support via firmware is not possible, if the sensor wasn't designed to do f/8 focusing. But the 1DX isn't going to be my next camera body anyway...

Canon General / Re: Patent: Large Back Illuminated Sensor
« on: January 23, 2012, 04:25:16 PM »
Hum... strange. As far as I understood BIS it shouldn't be a big anhancement when applied to a large area sensor such as APS-C or even FF... :o

now the question we have to answer is..... how much do you understand?   :D

Hehe. We'll find out when the first large area BSI sensors are there... :)

PowerShot Cameras / Re: Canon PowerShot G1 X Announced
« on: January 09, 2012, 05:53:53 PM »
If this camera would have existed in 2006, I had bought one. But for now, I'll live with my 400D.

I'm wondering what the next Rebel will look like... apart from the interchangable lenses, the G1X comes pretty close to the entry level DSLRs.
I would love seeing a 650D with, lets say 5fps and a better AF...  8) Or what about FF in a Rebel?  ???

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon T3i/600D Announced
« on: February 13, 2011, 09:22:01 AM »
Maybe when the 5dIII comes with (hopefully) digic V most of our video problems will be kinked out to the max...
What video problems? The rolling shutter issue?

There's no binning now. Pixels are skipped when using full sensor video.
How do you know? And how does that fit with  your second statement:

Digital zoom should yield an improved video quality at full zoom because they will use all contiguous pixels in the center of the sensor. This should give reduced moire.
