The 1DX has been delayed so this video feature can be added ;)

Thank you.

Now a better question is how those pixels would show up in the RAW files ... or rather, how they won't show up.

Can somebody clarify if the new "Hybrid CMOS" AF is in fact a combination of PDAF and CDAF like the Nikon 1 sensor or something different?

I still think the fuji x10 kicks its ass

- fuji manual zoom ring >>>>>>>> poxy electronic zoom
- fuji optical VF
-  fuji f2-f2.8 on the zoom (28-112) >>>>>> f1.8 - f4.9 thats pretty awefull at the long end  (28-100)

The optical viewfinder is not that great. There is no manual focus like the Sony RX100.

The Fuji X10 cannot fit in my jeans or pants pocket or even jacket pockets.

The Fuji X10 needs a lens cap to be carried with it ... easily lost.

The Fuji X10 is not made by Sony, does not use Sony sensors and does not have Zeiss glass.

See this thread

Sony is taking the approach, however that camera also costs $600+. Not sure I'd want to pay that much for a P&S.

AGAIN...I'll take one. I don't care what Sony has to offer.

That is fairly close minded, don't you think? All Canon compacts other than the G1X use Sony sensors anyway.

If there is one advantage the RX100 has over any other large sensor compact, it is the size ...

And my personal favourite:

Just for the sake of portability, this is the camera I'd like to have on the side of my backpack or in my pocket wherever I go, where my upcoming 5DIII (sold my 5DII two months ago) or my current NEX-5N cannot go.

One other reason this appeals to me is the fact that I do not need to carry a lens cap.

On the other hand, the disappointing part about this camera is the lack of a "Smart Accessory Terminal", which is what Sony uses for their NEX accessory attachments, like the EVF and such.

I do not care for a hotshoe on a portable compact camera, what's the point ...

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: 33 Megapixel APS-H/Super35

C500 will have a 33MP sensor.

From the press release:
"The Cinema EOS C500/C500 PL digital cinematography cameras will not only support 4K-resolution video but also outputs this as a 10-bit uncompressed RAW data stream with no de-Bayering. The cameras offer the additional versatility of being able to output quad full-HD (3840 x 2160), 2K (2048 x 1080), full HD (1920 x 1080), and other imaging options."

Which sounds exactly like what they've done with the C300..

So, 3840 x 2160 x 4 (RGGB) = 33177600

To update, I'm not sure about that and it seems that the blurb contains conflicting messages. For example, it later says:
" Equipped with a newly developed Super 35mm-equivalent approximately 8.85-megapixel CMOS sensor"
Which would seem to imply that de-Bayering is required for 4K, in contrast to the above. Or does the camera de-Bayer internally? Now I'm confused...

It isn't confusing. Your calculation for 33177600 is the number of photo sites, or dots. The sensor is a Bayer sensor, so the true pixel count is as they say, 8.85 megapixels.

I would never have switched to Nikon, but for me, the 5DIII had to be in the same league as the D800.

Specifically, the D800 received the D4's AF and Metering. I expected the 5DIII to received the full AF/Metering of the 1DX. Please do not feed me the "Canon needs to differentiate" line. I am sick of reading that here and there for over 4 years.

I love my 5DII, and there is nothing wrong with it (other than the AF), and I will continue to use it. I have no particular use for more pixels, and I like the 22mp sensor on the 5DIII.

However, OP asked what would have justified an upgrade for me, and in response I say the AF/Metering and small tweaks that would have made 5DIII a match for features of the D800.

Had these features been in the 5DIII, I would have gladly pre-ordered one online and one in my local camera shop (and kept the one that got here first of course, no need for two, can't even afford two) at the $3500 price.

I would have also liked to see a new 24-105 with better optics and the new IS that my 70-200 f/2.8 II has.
On the other hand, IF the 5DIII had the above features, and there was a kit with the new 24-70 II, I would have paid $5000 to $5500 for such a kit.

The new Speedlite is interesting though. :D

sony cameras do 1080p60. I don't see why this remains such a lacking feature in the canon lineup. even the 7 reaking thousand 1DX can't...
They dont have FF sensor in video...
most are just 3 1/3 cmos and 2/3 exmor..

The NEX 2011 lineup can all do 1080p at 60fps, and they all have the 1.5X cropped APS-C sensors. Same goes for the Sony A77. So your sensor size argument does not apply. 1080p at 60fps should not be out of realm of possibility for Canon Full Frame DSLRs ...

The way for Canon to make a splash here is simple, price.

Price it at $2699, just like the 5d2 at release. Drop the 5D2 to $1999. And voila. Loads of sales.

The thing that doesn't add up about the rumors is the price. $3500 is a lot of coin. The inclusion of the 24-105 kit lens in that price makes a lot more sense. So I imagine that's the deal.

If Canon made it $2700 body only I would be all over that like Charlie Sheen over a Bobby Brown homebaked muffin.
They would get a boatload of upgraders and those that need the camera abilities for work, and whats more probably make a serious slice into Nikoners who would be looking at the D800 , but that is JMHO.
I think THAT would be Canons all-time best selling DSLR...
please, please, please be true...

Actually, Canon's all-time best selling DSLR is the Rebel line-up ...

25
This is really beyond speculation. There is no way Canon would release a 5DIII without video improvements. I am sure those hoping for a death of DSLR video are in for a disappointment :P

While we wait to get a sensor equivalent of that of the human eye,
shall we beg Canon for something like this in the meantime?

http://www.theverge.com/2012/2/23/2818815/nhk-ultra-hd-image-sensor

Why do we need photography again? Just turn it on, and choose your shots later ...

8192 × 4320 pixels at 120 frames per second ... Imagine this will be mainstream in 20 years ... O_O ...

Just imagine the human eye has an ISO equivalent of 1 (yes, one) to around 60K ...

Though we still win with the approximate 500-600MP sensors we have in our eyes :)
(for still, non-moving image our eyes see at any instant, not taking into account the wide angle)

So until we get to a point where our built-in tech is begins to lag behind Canon products, we shall have stuff to speculate about ...

After we get to such a milestone, then we shall wonder about how to improve our eyes O_O ...

I am partially disappointed in the lack of rumours regarding a 24-105 replacement.

I was hoping Canon would put their newest IS and improve the optics for a new 24-105 that would replace the older version.

I use my 24-105 ALL the time, except when I am using my 70-200 II. It is the most convenient zoom lens, and also great for video (prepares to get bricked).

When CR puts the rating at CR3, it is almost always spot on ... very few hiccups in the past.

Don't put too much weight on CR2 rumours though.

I believe most of us were fine with an incremental update until a few months ago. When D800 rumours came out, and the recent rumours about pro AF and metering in the 5DIII/X, I fear we have been hyped beyond recovery.

Anything Canon releases will get a lot of whines unless it matches the best specifications the rumours have pegged it at.

How unfortunate.
