Lenses / Re: 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 vs 17-40mm f/4L for a crop camera
« on: February 19, 2012, 06:52:26 AM »
Well everyone has been talking about the 15-85mm, so I think I'll be choosing that. But some one mention the Tamron 17-50mm and the Canon 17-55.

If I had the money, I would DEFINITELY go for the 17-55mm f/2.8 but it cost around $1,000.

So, now I have a new question. How about the Tamron 17-50mm vs the Canon 15-85mm

My main problem with the 15-85mm, is the lens creep. I'm really afraid of that.

Lenses / 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 vs 17-40mm f/4L for a crop camera

Again, I've posted here before asking about different lens. So now I'm being a little realistic.

Rather than purchasing 24-105, I'm thinking about getting the 17-40mm as a replacement for my kit lens.

Which lens is going to be a better replacement for my 18-55mm?

If you do have another suggestion, I'd like to hear it as well. But my price range is from $500 - $800.

(Side note, I do not plan on going FF. I do plan on upgrading to a 7d though, even though it's still a crop sensor camera)

Technical Support / Manual Focusing screen replacement?
« on: February 16, 2012, 01:22:46 PM »
I've had my canon t1i for a while now. I don't remember when exactly this happened, but my focusing screen got really dirty so I've been thinking to replace it with a manual focusing screen that is made for my camera model. Is it safe to replace the focusing screen?

Lenses / Canon 17-85mm vs. Tamron 17-50mm vs. Tamron 28-75mm
« on: January 21, 2012, 06:21:28 AM »
Well, I know that I've posted on this forums before asking about getting either a 24-105mm or a 15-85mm, but both lenses are way out of my budget range now. Curse you College... anyways, I've been reading reviews on the 3 lenses, and I need some help deciding on which one to get as a present from my aunt. The budget she said was $500, so I found these lenses in those price ranges.

So bottom line, which lens of the 3 is the best. OR Is there a better lens I can get for $500 for my T1i.

ps. I'm not interested in getting a fixed focal length lens due to the fact I use my T1i for filming.

Lenses / Re: Should I purchase the 15-85mm f/3.5-5.0?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. :) everyone on this site is extremely helpful.

I have made the decision to save up a ton of money and get the 10-22mm and 24-105mmL combo. I forgot to mention that I was planning on upgrading to the 7D by the end of the year. Haha. Thank you to everyone for helping me out. And thanks to neuroanatomist for the tip of taking a look at my EXIF data. I noticed that i tend to zoom a lot when taking pictures. After doing an evaluative average of 20 pictures, the Average was 25mm. :)

Lenses / Should I purchase the 15-85mm f/3.5-5.0?
« on: January 08, 2012, 06:15:03 AM »
After about 3 years of shooting, I've been looking to upgrade my kit lens for my T1i, but I haven't been able to find a good lens for it. At first I wanted to upgrade to the 15-85mm f/3.5-5.0, but after getting my hands on the 24-105mm f/4 L, I fell in love.

The 15-85mm fits well in my price range, and it's also great for my camera since it's a cropped sensor camera.

The 24-105mm f/4 L is extremely expensive if purchased new, but I don't plan on upgrading to a full framed body.

So, my question is, Should I buy the 15-85mm or a used 24-105mm?
