EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Camera System
« on: June 15, 2012, 04:19:11 AM »
Hm... for Canon system with this purpose I would go for:

Eventually new 70D(if it's like rumors say) or 7D. ~1500$
Canon 85 1.8 for outdoor portraits, Sigma 30 1.4 for indoor.  ~900$
Canon 400 5.6 for wildlife/sports 1300$
Canon 15-85 IS for general purpose and landscapes. ~700$ (should be cheaper if it's kit with 70D/7D)
Some flash, diffuser and reflector for portraits ~ 600$

Total: ~5000$

Maybe there is a gap between 85 and 400mm, you can add 200 2.8 for closer sports and some outdoor portraits.

I've got 60D from about a year and I'm pleased with the performance. It's a great camera that can be used in so many situations. You should get fast prime(like cheap canon 50 1.8) and a good zoom and check what are your need further.

Good luck!

Lenses / Re: The Shorty Forty MTF Chart Comparison
« on: June 11, 2012, 03:03:38 AM »
Well, I would like to compare MTF with my nearest 2.8 prime - EF-s 60 2.8 macro:

No comment, I'll wait for real pics from 40 2.8.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 Pancake

Looks nice, if it was f2 would be nice, but larger and expensive.

If wide open is with great image quality I'll probably go for it.

Well, it's not bad idea for lens like this, but for me it's to close to my 60 2.8 macro.
I would go for unexpensive EF-s 30 1.8 and 12 2.8, but from the prices of new 24 and 28 IS it seems that Canon don't want to give us good normal price lens.

Not something special but I found used Sigma 18-50 2.8 EX for about 150$.
I bought Canon 15-85 IS and sold Sigma few months later for 230$.

Lenses / Re: Rumored 10 new lenses, 5 of which (CR) mentioned...
« on: March 11, 2012, 07:26:56 AM »
I want light, cheap EF-S 12mm 2.8.

I'm also interested in expected 40mm 2.8 and 100-400 II(but this probably will be too expensive for me).

I'm staying with 60D - too expensive new cameras for hobby and more expensive high quality EF lens...

Nice patents, but I prefer to see not so expensive and large 200 2.8 IS and 400 5.6 IS  ;)

PowerShot Cameras / Re: Canon PowerShot G1 X Announced

Surprisingly large sensor, but not enough for 800$ camera. Lens like 24-120 F2.8-4 would make it much more interesting.  Actually I would prefer slightly smaller sensor like 15mm X 10mm(between 4/3 and Nikon's 2.7 crop) for lens like this.
