Lenses / Re: 24-105 &/or 24-70

I have both, but I shoot Weddings & Portraits for a living and sometimes have a 2nd shooter who would use the 24-105 on my 5D2 & I use the 24-70 on my 5D3, I also have a 28-135 just in case. One thing I have learnt about shooting Weddings is to always have a backup, as I have had 2 lens's fail at the one Wedding before.

I have been considering trading one of my 5D mark 2's for a Mark 3 lately, but im definitely not going to pull the trigger on it for a while after reading all these problems, as I use my 580 flash extensively at my Weddings and I foresee this really annoying me. I wonder if 1Dx owners are experiencing this problem as well?

Take your 24-105 & either the 50 or 85. I would probably take the 85 for some candid portraits of the locals with some nice bokeh!

I wonder if Canon has included the continuos video recording ability that the 5d3 & 1dx has, that lets you record video for just under 30mins splitting the video into 4gb files??. Im assuming they Havant, but thought I would mention it just in case.

I use the 24-105 as my lens of choice for 90% of all my Wedding and Portrait work,  although I do use my 70-200 f2.8 and an occasional shot with my 17-40 & 85mm, the 24-105 covers nearly every scenario that I need, I'm actually thinking of getting another one as I wouldn't want to be without it for even one Wedding if it broke! I have thought about the 24-70 mk1 as well, but I think I would miss that extra bit of reach that the 105 gives. I find it a very versatile lens. Hope this helps.

Got the mode dial upgrade done to both my 5D2's, its really worth it, as I was constantly knocking it to the wrong setting by accident at Weddings.

Hi Everyone, was hoping to get some advice about Microfocus adjusting my 17-40 on my 5Dmk2. It is tack sharp on my 5D mark 1 but on both my 5dmk2 bodies it isnt. I have read that microadjustment works well on a prime lens, but havnt herd if anyone has sucsesfuly adjusted a zoom?

What about a Lens with a new or slightly expanded focal length, like say a 20-70mm 2.8IS or a 24-90mm 2.8IS. The 20-70 focal lenth might not be possable though? dont know the technical  in's and outs of developing such a lens??

I noticed the same softness with the 24-105 that I just bought and ultimately I decided to return it and only use prime lens for now until a new zoom update comes out maybe like the 24-70 2.8 II (hopefully with IS)!

I shoot Weddings with my 24-105 on my 5D mark 2 and find the lens focusing very inconsistent. Images taken in a sequene with the same subject, composition and focusing point, some are sharp and some arn't. Generally by saying sharp I mean usable, I wouldn't say this is a sharp lens. For a while I just thought I hadn't got a great copy, bu :(t when a fiend of mine also got a 5D and 24-105 he has had the exact same problems, both of our lens's seam to experiance more softness at the long end. Was thinking of trading up for a 24-70 with the hope it would be better? Is there anymore of you guys with a similar experiance with this lens? as it has been for me unfortunately a bit disapointing.

I noticed that the 1Ds is currently out of stock with Park Cameras and  Calumet uk. Hope that means the mark 4 will soon be here, or maybe it just means nobody wants the mark 3 anymore???

I have a 17-40 and its very soft on my 30D especially at the wide end, so much so that I would say that its unusable on my 30D, but on my 5D its fantastic razer sharp at all focal lenths. Must be that thing where its the luck of the draw if your Camera and lens are a good match together?
