Canon EF Zoom Lenses / Re: EF 24-70mm 2.8L
« on: June 02, 2011, 06:53:28 PM »
I haven't tested extensively the 24-105, so I can't compare it with the 24-70 but I can tell you what I like about 24-70.
1. f/2.8.
2. Pleasing colors and contrast without the need of post processing.

Sharpness was never an issue to me because I'm not a pixel-peeping nerd. I just want to take nice shots.

24-70 @24mm f/2.8.

I think that some Panasonic models like the GH2 do the thing you describe to some extend.
It is called "multi-aspect sensor" but the sensor's total surface area is never used to capture a single image.

What camera do you have now?

Here you can post your concert shots!!

I start with Marty Friedman and his band.
Shot about 200 photos, kept 20. Lens 24-70 2.8. Both shots taken with aperture wide open.

Lenses / Re: EF 16-40 f/4L IS [CR1]
« on: May 25, 2011, 08:59:30 AM »
As a user of the current 17-40, I can assure you that corner resolution is not an issue to me. When i need resolution (landscapes etc), i use f/8-13 and I get very sharp images.
If this 16-40 IS hits the shops, I 'll definitely take it just for the IS!!!!

Even at f/11 there's plenty of room for improvement at the wide end.

Sure there is, I just don't need it for my prints, even if they are 1 meter long.

Lenses / Re: 15-85 vs 17-40
« on: May 14, 2011, 10:20:11 AM »
I've been thinking for a while about selling my 15-85 since I'm not satisfied with the quality (good at 15 sucks at 85) and the colors that are "weird" (tough to describe) and because , anyways I was wondering if the 17-40 would be an upgrade IQ wise. I was also considering the 16-28 tokina for the 2.8 if anyone has experience with that lens.
Can you post some sucky images at 85mm? I have the 17-40 and I was thinking to get the 15-85 because it is a more versatile all-around lens. I'm not planning to sell my 17-40 though, because I use it on 3 cameras(2 ff, 1 aps-c). 17-40 is very good if you can live with the lack of IS.
What I love about 17-40? Its build quality, size-weight, color rendition and the lack of flaring! I find its IQ well above average, especially at f8-11.

Mother nature put a great Christams day show this morning too, the fog raced in across the city to meet the sun at dawn in one of the prettier daybreaks I've seen....(G12 again)

Great shot!

You should sell me your lenses and buy a Nikon.
Such an idiotic idea.
You should sell them to me!

I've used both EOS1V and EOS3. They are top notch SLRs. You'll absolutely love them.
I can bet that the 5D mkiii will have worse autofocus than these two.
