Software & Accessories / How do I create caricatures in Photoshop?
« on: October 25, 2014, 07:22:53 AM »
Hi guys!

I've seen a bunch of very cool caricatures online made in photoshop that I also want to do. I have limited experience in CS, but If you have more advanced advice, I'm okay with that.

I did a 20 minute try today, posted below. If you have any tips on how to improve, I'm sure you do!, please tell me. It's my first attempt so I know it's not perfect. I see people who do this the right way use edge lights on both sides, I have only one lamp now, so kind of limited in that way.

Third Party Manufacturers / New lamp, what to buy?
« on: July 23, 2014, 06:06:31 AM »
Hi all!

I sold my Elinchrom Quadra because it didn't do HSS, and I'm currently using two 600 RT speedlites.

I'm looking at GoDox and had a look at this link:

http://www.godox.com/EN/Products_Portabe_Flash_EX_Series.html

But seeing that the say 400Ws is the same as guide no. 52?? I'm not sure why I would buy if that is correct, the 600 RT is guide no. 60. I know that you can't really calculate and convert those two, but they have provided both values, but I can't find it to add up. Which one is it? My Quadra was 400Ws and I had at least 1 1/3 stop power advantage over the two speedlites.

What would you recommend for a 400-600Ws portable flash that does HSS and is cheap like the GoDox?

Thanks !

Lighting / Anything Strobist
« on: July 12, 2014, 01:40:38 PM »
Hi all! Let me know if there's a thread like this that I missed.

I wanted to create a thread where we post our strobist pictures (speedlites and or studio strobes) ONLY, and give info about how it was made, perhaps a BTS shot and where we positioned the light and how we modified and perhaps some post process tips. I find it's a great way to learn for newbies and a great way for experienced users to pick up new ideas.

I'll start with two simple shots from today of my kids having fun.

They are all done with two bare bulb (no modifier) 600 RT triggered by the st-e3 camera left. I used HSS (highspeed sync) to bring down the ambient to be able to use a 1.4 aperture. Camera right I used the sun for edge/rim light. I really like hard light, and I have been kind of worried about it before as it can be absolutely horrible, but found that it actually can be really cool. Adds lots of punch and contrast, and for flat children's faces it creates more definition.

50 Art, f1.4 (no filter) iso 100 and 1/2500s

Exif same as the previous one.

Hi all!

I once read, I think it was about 600 RT, that I could shoot an ETTL shot wirelessly and then if it looked good I could lock it, and use that output for the other pictures following that shot. But I just went through the manual and can't find it anywhere. It seems like a cool function when stuff happens to fast to use a meter or dial in the manual output.

Software & Accessories / Camera bag for bicycling?
« on: June 06, 2014, 07:23:40 AM »
Hi guys!

I want to have a small bag for basically just the 1dx and 24-70 OR 85 L OR 50 Art that I can use while on my bike.
I have the LowePro Mini Trekker, but I think it's too big for just a quick trip out, and I want something that stays in place when going down a rough trail.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Third Party Manufacturers / Sigma Dock Firmware, does it help?
« on: February 05, 2014, 11:59:54 AM »
Hi guys!

I recently bought a Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art, and I was wondering if there was any improvement in AF performance after the 1.02 update? I ran mine through Focal today and it turns out to be pretty sharp and Focal said 99.1% on the AF Consistency test, however, testing in real life the AF performance is very poor... I wonder if buying the docking and upgrading would improve this, or is it just to make the AF quiet and smoother?

What could have been an epic lens is, at least for now, useless and can't be trusted.

Thanks.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 1dx file name error *Solved*
« on: January 01, 2014, 06:11:48 AM »
Hi guys!

I have changed the name of my 1dx files in camera too 1dx_****, and I did that the first day I got it, it has worked a year and half alomst, but now, for some reason beyond me all my files are named simply, dx_***. I checked in camera to see if I have bumped or deleted the "1" but no, in camera it still says 1dx_****, I have tried both slots, loads of different memory cards, and when looking at the files in Finder (mac) they are named dx_**** so it isn't Lr that screws up. I deleted the name in camera and wrote it again, it stays 1dx_****, but the files themselves are STILL named dx_****

How is this possible?

**EDIT** I solved it, but leave the topic if anyone else experiences this, I had changed my color space from sRGB to AdobeRGB, and seem to be the cause. Changed it back to sRGB and it still works.

I would still like to know why, and if I can shoot AdobeRGB and still name my files what I want.

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / 600 ex rt GEL holder, seriously?
« on: December 27, 2013, 06:54:27 PM »
Hi guys and a merry christmas to you all!

I got my 600 rt + st-e3 transmitter just before christmas and wanted to ask a question or two.

1. Why is the gel holder open on the sides, the sides undefused and not even covered by the gel? This makes the uncorrected light leak out on the side and turn whatever it hits very blue (I'm using the darker orange gel indoors), plus then it gives very hard shadows to the sides even though my flash is pointed to the roof. I eventually found some black tape (sounds familiar?) and taped all around the top of the holder, except the front, to prevent uncorrected colored light to mess up my shots, what were Canon thinking?? Anyone else experienced this and perhaps solved this?

2. The sensor that tells the flash and camera that a gel is in place only works when the flash is on camera (and superbly might I add), why doesn't this information travel to the camera when used wirelessly?? I mean, the gel is a Canon original, so they now how to correct it, and the flash receives this info, why can't it travel to the camera and set the same wb as when it's mounted on the camera?

Thanks!

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / LiveView flash trigger issue
« on: November 28, 2013, 07:17:01 AM »
Hi guys!

I have a manual lens and I use wireless flash triggered by Elinchrom Skyports. My flash does not fire when in LV, anyone know why or perhaps have a workaround? I can't go out of LV after focusing, because then the shot is oof when I push the button.

Thanks!

« on: October 28, 2013, 03:48:06 PM »
Hi guys, quick question;

Does the wft-e6a wifi module for the 1dx work with the Eos remote app, or any other third party apps for iPhone?

Thanks.

Lenses / 70-200 Halo issue?
« on: September 13, 2013, 05:48:35 AM »
Hi guys,

Anyone else seen this in their 70-200 mk2, seems like the problem is with the new verisons, with the new lenscap?

Lenses / 200 f2.0 first dissapointed customer ever? *it's back!*
« on: September 02, 2013, 04:00:57 PM »
Hi guys!

This is an outlet of my frustration.

I bought the 200 f2.0 L a month or so ago and while it's CRAZY image quality, I'm very dissapointed.

The AF is highly inaccurate even with correct afma, it's just all over when tracking and the shots vary a lot in sharpness. FoCal couldn't even do a complete run without prompting me with a message telling me it can't focus, and even suggested the reason might be "a poor performing lens camera combo"

And a few days ago the final effing drop, the focusing ring sounds like it's sprinkled on the inside with gravel!! How??

I have owned almost every lens in the L-series and this is the very first
Time build quality have been an issue...

So I think it truly sucks plain and simple.

I once
Tried to break and scratch a defective 17-85 canon, and it I tried REALLY hard throwing it to the ground, but couldn't even scratch the front element and part
From already defective AF, it
Still shot like new...

Canon ? Wtf?!
