Lenses / 70-200 Halo issue?
« on: September 13, 2013, 05:48:35 AM »
Hi guys,

Anyone else seen this in their 70-200 mk2, seems like the problem is with the new verisons, with the new lenscap?

Lenses / 200 f2.0 first dissapointed customer ever? *it's back!*
« on: September 02, 2013, 04:00:57 PM »
Hi guys!

This is an outlet of my frustration.

I bought the 200 f2.0 L a month or so ago and while it's CRAZY image quality, I'm very dissapointed.

The AF is highly inaccurate even with correct afma, it's just all over when tracking and the shots vary a lot in sharpness. FoCal couldn't even do a complete run without prompting me with a message telling me it can't focus, and even suggested the reason might be "a poor performing lens camera combo"

And a few days ago the final effing drop, the focusing ring sounds like it's sprinkled on the inside with gravel!! How??

I have owned almost every lens in the L-series and this is the very first
Time build quality have been an issue...

So I think it truly sucks plain and simple.

I once
Tried to break and scratch a defective 17-85 canon, and it I tried REALLY hard throwing it to the ground, but couldn't even scratch the front element and part
From already defective AF, it
Still shot like new...

Canon ? Wtf?!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / AF Cases 5d3/1dX
« on: August 30, 2013, 04:41:51 AM »
Hi guys!

I was just wondering what is your favorite (custom) Af cases for shooting people in all types of situations.

The reason I ask is that I have the 1dx and 200 f2.0 L and use it for a lot of people shots, from people doing sports, portraits, kids playing etc. And I find it to be very difficult to get the faces sharp, really annoying. Tracking isn't the best to say the least, and this combo should be superb imo.

I have tried pretty much any case, even the ones that doesn't make sense for a situation, Case 6 for a still sitting portrait for example, just to try. I have tried some custom cases, but I still have too many missed shots with this combo especially. I have also tried the face detection with auto point selection and found  (as expected) highly unreliable, with this dof, you can't miss with even a couple of centimeters. I know the dof is very thin and yes it is properly calibrated.

Please feel free to share all of your favorite cases with both the 5d3 and 1dx when it comes to ANY shooting scenario. I think we can learn a lot from each other thinking of the combined experience here at CR.

Lenses / Drop-in filter super-tele, which to buy?
« on: August 27, 2013, 06:53:11 AM »
Hi guys!

I wonder if you use the drop-in pol from Canon, or did you buy the filter holder? In that case what filters are recommended, I know they have to be the "right" thickness. And can you still use cir pol and adjust while mounted?

Ps, it took the 200 f2 one and a half week to push my 70-200 out the door. ;D

Lenses / 24-70 II cracked focusing ring. **DIY FIXED**
« on: July 24, 2013, 05:00:51 AM »
Hi guys.

Has anyone ever seen this happen without dropping or smashing a lens? I just noticed it today. Pretty disappointing.

Lenses / EF 200mm f2 , how much do you use it and for what?
« on: July 07, 2013, 04:11:35 PM »
Hi guys!

Do you feel the 70-200 f2,8 II gets more use than the 200 (if you own both) or is the 200 SO awesome you find uses for it anyway?

I love the 70-200 II, but always had a thing for the 200 f2, but never owned it. I owned the 300 f2.8 (so I'm used to the weight), but that was too long for me.

And forget, "if you really need the extra stop" I want it if it's awesome as it looks  ;D

Lenses / 24-70 II slight clicking sound when zooming
« on: June 05, 2013, 04:25:17 PM »
Hi guys!

Instead of completely highjacking another thread I'll post a new topic.

Does everybody experience a very slight frequent "tick.tick, tick" noise when turning the zoomring of the 24-70 mk2?

It's spanking new, only very slight afma was needed (+1 to +3) and AF works perfect, the zoom turns smoothly otherwise. I just want to make sure it's nothing wrong.

Software & Accessories / ColorChecker passport, what's wrong?
« on: April 25, 2013, 04:18:24 AM »
Hi guys, simple question. Why is it that it is only my flash-color profile that gives me the correct reds?
Every ambient-profile, dual-illuminant or single, outdoor/indoor, sun/shade everything, the sampled wb and the CC-shot gives me reds that are WAY off and purple. All people's lips looks blueish, and red sweaters looks purple. See example:

CORRECT COLORS (flash): I understand it's very hard for you guys to see if it's right colors or not, not having the subjects in front of you, but this one is highly accurate.

WRONG COLORS (overcast): Here you can see the reds turns to some nasty purple. I've tried this a thousand times, same results. I was quite surprised to see the flash profile work last night.

And to me at least, the wb of the right shot is a bit warm, and I've seen that several times, that the greycard built into the CC passport gives to warm wb (why?) but that doesn't explain the purples, correcting the wb makes it even more purple.

And this one is gone completely mental, notice her skin also:

Any ideas folks?

Lenses / Rubber Seal 24-70 f2.8 L
« on: April 24, 2013, 09:30:30 AM »
Hi guys!

Anyone know where I can get the rubber seal that's on the back of the mount of a 24-70mm f2.8 mk1?

I asked my local Canon-shop if they could send me one for me to fix myself, and they could, only it was 211 USD! I tried looking on eBay, but couldn't really find one.

Software & Accessories / 1d X "silent" mode.
« on: March 12, 2013, 08:32:46 AM »
Hi guys!

Just a quick question, is it in anyway thinkable that the 1d X could have a firmware to add the silent mode of the 5d3?

The mode implemented in the 1d X really is a joke....

Software & Accessories / Reikan Focal average values.
« on: March 06, 2013, 03:48:11 AM »
Hi guys!

I remembered reading somewhere about the abillity in Focal to see what others numbers for sharpness, AF consistency etc are for a given lens. Anyone know where in the software to find this?

Reason I'm asking is I am on my third copy of the 24mm  f1.4 L II and it is horrible for AF consistency, and even worse in real life than in Focal, so I would love to see what other peoples numbers are.
