I have the Wemberley and the RRS feet...No issues with the Wemberley but IF I had it all to do over I would buy everything from RRS...all my feet, tripods, gimbals, monopods, heads...everything...just impossible to beat the quality of their stuff and I love how it is all interchangeable...very convenient!

Comparing the current 7d with a MK IV is kind of ridiculous don't you think???  Even if the 7d2 is all that some of you want it to be it will still be half the camera, comparison, period.....start  with weatherproofing and go from get what you pay for, period!  If any of you really want a MK IV I will sell you new, with less than 20,000 clicks on it....

Since this thread was posted I have taken the time to look into some insurance, and some from the providers that some of you have mentioned on this thread, and have found that it is a major challenge to find something affordable that can cover more than, say, $10K in equipment.  My homeowners policy rider, in the amount to cover my equipment, would be nearly $2,000 per year but would not cover more than $10K in losses or damage outside of my home, which is where I would need the insurance coverage the most....I checked with Hiscox and their insurance would only cover up to $10K...anyone out there got anything that would cover, say $50K worth of equipment at a cost say $1,000 per year instead of $2,000...???

I really haven't taken enough pictures under all conditions with my 200-400 to really get a comparable read with my 600 II.....The 600 II is great with the 1.4 extender but softens just ever so slightly with the 2x extender.  My 200-400 with the extender switched to 1.4 is pretty damned sharp....I think it compares very favorably with my 600 w/o an extender but like I said I need a little more time with it...I will get that this Summer in Katmai I am sure.

I rented the 800 and took it to Svalbard..shared the expense with another photographer.  We both had the 500 that we took with us as well.  The 800 was very good without an extender, even the version III extender made the image soft.  After the new 600 came out I sold my 500 and purchased the 600 II....when I combine it with the 1.4 III extender the quality of my pictures are SHARPER than the 800 was without an I now get 840 reach, with a lighter lense and a superior quality picture...and if I don't need the extender I have a little more flexibility with the 600 than the 800 provided....combined with my 1Dx and my recently purchased 200-400 I think that I have all of the bases covered, telephoto wise.....I am keeping both of these never know when you need the 840 reach when you are shooting wildlife....but can't handhold the 600, not and still get quality shots all of the time.....

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: when are the best Sales on 5d Mark iii?

It seems to me that if you got a second MK III you would just be double disappointed.  The fps difference between the MK III an the MK IV is significant.  You are better off to get a good used MK IV and then sell it when you can save for the 1DX...I own the 1DX and I use my MK IV as my back up camera.  As good as the MK IV is, it is NOT a 1DX.....but for action shooting it is far superior to the 5d MK III

Most of us do not go to Africa very often...splurge, and rent a 1DX.........I guarantee that you will not be disappointed and the images that you will get will reward you over and over again for the expense of renting the camera for a couple of weeks.

I was in Tanzania in February and spent a week on the Serengeti....I took my 600 with the 1.4 extender and my 70-300L.  Of course I also had my 24-105 and my 16-35 II lenses as well.  With the extender, version III, there is absolutely no loss of picture quality so you are getting way out there and have enough length for just about anything that you would want to shoot.  To my surprise we were able to get  very close to the overwhelming majority of animals that we shot so the 70-300 actually produced some great shots....I am going back in February of 2015 and will take both my 600 and my recently purchased 200-400.  Between these two I kind of feel that I have the bases covered but will still take my 70-300 along for my wife to shoot...shooting off of bean bags does make it easier but the heavier lenses are still tough to hand hold otherwise.
