I find this a bit confusing, UK or Republic of Ireland?

Both.

The part about loving it because good focus is rare and hard to achieve is a masterpiece in spin doctoring. :)
GUILTY as charged ;D

Yeah, sure, but when it hits, it's so worth it.

(will be 14 soon, deciding between the 16-35/4L IS and TS-E 17/4L)

Buy both, why decide?

I think putting 4k in a sub 4,000 camera would cause canon to become its own competition with their cinema line of cameras.
They don't want to cannibalize the sales of their expensive cinema cameras.

That's a common strategy, and the companies that have used that strategy all have one thing in common:  their sales were cannibalized by their competition, instead of by themselves.

Panasonic and Sony are going after Canon video shooters.  If Canon won't give us 4K, or even sharp 1080p, then we will get it elsewhere.  I am about to buy a GH4 for my video work, even though I won't be able to use my L lenses with it.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark IV To Feature 4K Video?

And, I have no idea whether adding and upping the video features on a DSLR increases the cost or helps pay for the R&D for features that still photographers are coming to love (e.g., live view).

Live View comfortably predated video.

My 50D had live view.

I think its too soon for 5D3 refresh but this would be my list for me to buy a 5d4.

Stills Side

1. Blinky AF point
2. Linked AF point Spot Metering
3. 1/250th Sync speed bump. (1/500 would be even more sweet)
4. Built in RT transmitter
5. 7 FPS bump and improved buffer for dual card writing. (pitiful if you use the SD card slot currently.)
6. Dual CF or SD, just pick one or the other.
7. Add dual custom buttons like the 1Dx besides the lens mount.
8??. Did anyone notice the second curtain sync C-fn through PC sync missing in the mk3? I was positive this was on my 5Dc or the 5D2...
9. Make the Rate button do something else beside's rate and protect. :/
10. Slight screen bump in resolution/size and/or Touchscreen with optional toggle.
11. Lastly, Any ISO/IQ/Resolution bump is nice but these other features are much more important to

Numbers 1 and 2 would be great.  Your number 4 item is odd, who here would want dual SD only?  I'd venture to say most, if not all, users with cameras at this level are well invested in CF cards.

Does anyone know the diameter of what size lens can fit in there?  Mainly I'm curious if I can use this with a 200 f/2.0 for that nice ring light effect on portraits.

200/2?  Umm, it won't fit.

Best part on that page:

EF 200-400 f/4L IS
This seems to be a lens a lot of people would like, I just don’t think a lot of those people would pony up the $4K-$5K it would cost. I haven’t heard any rumor about such a lens being in development.

I'm surprised at the better than expected prices.  The 16-35/4 would make a great family travel lens for me.

I have both - if I had to choose between them, I'll take the 85L every time :)

+1

The 50's keeper rate is lower, but having owned the 50/1.4 and 50 1.8 mrk 1, I'm very happy with the 50/1.2.  Keep in mind you are judging the 50/1.2 to the legendary 85/1.2.

Cool video even to just see the canon gear.

But I don't understand why people need a wide angle with F2.8. You don't do portrait with a wide-angle that had "by nature" some distortion.

You use the wide angle at F8, 10 and more..  so why bother and pay for a "new" f2.8 that would be heavier and much costly...  New versions cost always a lot more with canon.

I'd like my 8-15L f4 to be a 2.8.  iso 3200 vs. 6400.  Big difference.

Smartphones are integrated into the internets and social media.  That's what killed P&S cameras.  Quality means nothing in this segment.
