The 400/5.6 with 1.4TC and crop a little in to that awesome 5d3 and you'd be set. But the lure of a 600/4 is tempting and sometimes you just have give in.

Still, most of my bird photography is not done on vacation but is done almost every day. My office is within walking distance of an area that has quite a few birds and I take walks there every day during lunch. Therefore, whichever lens I pick up will likely be used at least twice a week.
Ok, I can't imagine you taking either of these lenses to work twice a week, especially the 600/4. I think the 400/5.6 might be lighter, add the 1.4 tc or 2.0tc and boom. Plus you have the 70-200.

I find the AF of the 50L to be much better on my 5D3 than it was on my 50D. What body are you using? I have both the 1.4 and 1.2 and they are both great, but they need to be used with a little care wide open. The 50L is amazing when you hit it, and on full frame the bokeh and what I call 3D look are unique.
The dof at f1.2 is thin, so some shots are missed because of camera or subject movement, so shoot lots!

Yes, this is great. Now I can turn off the options that I'll never use and never have to scroll through them again. So I have spot and single point only, single seems to be the only one you can't turn off. Does that have to do with the grouping of lenses that I see in the manual? Some slower lenses won't jive with spot AF? I use the finest spot 100% of the time.

I don't seem to get any useful information from that comment which invariably the post started with "dude or bro". So, please tell me why the 5d3 AF system sucks because I haven't bought the camera yet and I'd like to make an informed purchasing decision.

Nice shot, so you converted that in DPP with the factory settings, not changing them as per many threads? I'm having great success with DPP and my 5D3 too, after a little learning curve.

I'll have to try servo mode when I get home, it was fine the other day on one shot, but I never use servo.

ef 20mm f2.0L (or f2.8 if f2.0 would ram up the price too much) no IS, and it better have awesome bokeh, I'm talking 200/2 quality here or 24/1.4ii.
