Third Party Manufacturers / Bought Sigma 150-600, should I buy the dock?
« on: December 17, 2014, 12:18:19 AM »
Friends.
This is my first non canon lens. I do not have any idea how the dock thing works. But now since I have bought this lens do you Sigma owners recommend me buying the dock? Thx.

Canon General / Sensor life
« on: December 14, 2014, 10:01:03 AM »
Hello.
Is there something like 'sensor hours' before it goes bad? After a certain amount of clicks the shutter mechanism needs to be replaced but how about sensor?
Before video I am not sure if this mattered but now with so much video being shot on DSLR does the sensor go bad after a certain usage?
thx for any input!

EOS Bodies - For Video / 1dc life span
« on: December 13, 2014, 09:19:15 AM »
Hi.
I have been using the 1dc as second camera on features lately and also renting it out quite a bit. So much so that it seems like I need to buy another body to keep up with rentals.
My concern is that what if something new with internal 4k recording is released into the market soon, the resale value of the 1dc will drop dramatically.
What do you all think? Thanks for any suggestions.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / For 1dx owners
« on: November 27, 2014, 02:29:52 AM »
What would you require in the next 1dx replacement body to make you upgrade? I can't think of much.
I will not upgrade if only:
1. It added 2 fps speed.
2. 4 mp.
3. Slightly larger spread of AF points.
4. 1/4 stop ISO improvement.
5. 4k (But that is because I actually use the 1dc)

I am so content with it that I would need something really special to want to upgrade. You?

Canon General / Does Canon really deserve this?
« on: November 22, 2014, 07:07:25 AM »
I browse this website quite often since 2012. I have never seen so many negative comments about Canon these days in comparison with before.
Does Canon really not satisfying its customers lately or is it that there are new members in the forum who like to put down Canon in comparison with other companies?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 1dc = Free beer
« on: November 04, 2014, 05:18:26 AM »
Funny story to share. I was in the walking street at Pattaya with my 1dc and 85mm trying to get photos and went for dinner.
The waiter was fascinated by the camera, started playing with it and soon the manager joined in. I ended up teaching them back button focusing. They googled the camera and were so impressed that they sent me beers on the house.
hahaha.

Am starting a new thread which can be lots of fun.
Post photos of people taking selfie. Post your own photos, not those found on internet.
I start with one I took in Thailand recently.

Lenses / Selling 200-400
« on: October 04, 2014, 05:37:08 AM »
Not very happy with this decision as the lens is quite good. But just for use once a year, am not sure if I should hold on to it.
Will buy the Sigma 150-600 sports. But will it be available before my next trip in Feb is the question. Do you think I should wait till the trip is over before selling? What if I sell and the Sigma does not deliver?

Btw the 200-400 is good but I got lots of over exposed shots when I engaged the 1.4x. Perhaps operator error but but not sure...

Around 6 years ago when I restarted photography after 15 years (film to digital) I found Juza on internet and learned a lot from his website.

Software & Accessories / Star details
« on: September 01, 2014, 01:13:17 PM »
Hello.
I had seen someone post photos of night sky and had used a software to get lots of stars pop out.
Does anyone remember that post? I would appreciate being pointed to that.
Regards.

Lenses / Selling my two Zeiss lenses. Your advice?
« on: July 26, 2014, 01:35:42 PM »
Friends.
I have 3 Zeiss lenses: 15mm. 35mm 1.4 and 135mm f2.
I am thinking of selling the 15 and 35 because:

15mm: IQ of Canon 16-35 f4 is very close to the Zeiss at all f stops. Zeiss has better distortion and f2.8 but the IS on the Canon more than makes up for all this. Besides Canon has auto focus, is lighter, has zoom advantage and is cheaper.

35mm: When I bought it (and actually still) this lens had the best sharpness on 35mm. But now the 35mm f2 IS has very similar qualities and has autofocus, is lighter and cheaper. I bought the Zeiss for one very specific kind of photos - the late dusk photos when the sun has almost gone and stars start to appear and I thought the 1.4 opening would be great. Modern cameras and the 35 f2 will give me very similar IQ.

Will I miss the f1.4 of the Zeiss? I am not sure as practically speaking the OOF back ground of f1.4 vs f2 is not so noticeable and it was very tough to get perfect focus with the Zeiss at f1.4.

Anyone has any advice for me?

Sanjay

Oh, the 135. I think I will keep it for now, it feels so nice in my hands and is great for tripod portraits.
