EOS Bodies - For Stills / 1dx snug cover
« on: October 13, 2012, 01:19:32 AM »
Hello.
Am looking to buy a snug cover for 1dx but cant find one. Any clues?
This is what Delkin told me: (I bought cover for 5d3 from them.)

Hi Sanjay

Thank you for interest and inquiry regarding our professional line of Snug-It protective skins.  I am sorry to inform you that we don’t carry a snug-it for the 1DX camera and don’t have future plan for it as well.  The 1DX camera is very expensive and very few customers have that camera.  Most of our snug-it’s are designed for more affordable SLR cameras that have a demand in the market.  If have any further inquires please feel free to contact us with any questions.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / "Advantage in resolution"
« on: July 21, 2012, 10:01:22 AM »
This may be a dumb one for most of you all but I am trying to learn this concept, so if you can pls find a moment to share your knowledge.

I keep reading that Canon 5d3 has "advantage in resolution" compared to 1dx.
What does it exactly mean? That we can crop more? Or something else.

Would love to learn this and did not find much in Google.

Thx...

EOS Bodies / Cancelled 1dx pre order.
« on: July 12, 2012, 04:03:21 AM »
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=458&Camera=779&Sample=0&FLI=0&API=4&LensComp=458&CameraComp=792&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=4

And the color resolution chart on the review page shows there is no real IQ advantage to 1dx over 5d3 to MY EYE.

Will miss the extra 6 fps. :( Rest of the features do not warrant spending this money to ME.

EOS Bodies / Unfair Dealers.
« on: July 08, 2012, 02:00:39 PM »
Have been monitoring the shipments of 1dx and 5d3 and the responses of sales people like "when you had ordered does not relate to where you stand on shipment queue." AND the BIG one "Our shipping queue is confidential."

All this points clearly to my mind that all is not fair and some people get their gear before others... Anytime anything is hidden, it has a reason to be hidden. Generally the reason is unfair.

There are some people who mention the dealer in their websites and promote them in other manners. Perhaps they get priority?

EOS Bodies / 1dx Japan site
« on: June 20, 2012, 02:01:34 AM »
Today is 20th so I checked Canon Japan website to see if they had updated the release date which earlier was marked for today.

The date has vanished.

I google translated this: "EOS-1D X Niokimashite new product, currently, has received a very large number of orders, the period of time, your time will be charged before delivery of goods. We sincerely apologize to our customers is that the very We apologize for any inconvenience. So we strive to improve this situation as soon as possible, the item can be delivered promptly to our customers, We look forward to your understanding."

Damn. 'Understanding' is becoming tougher at least for me... So wanted it for my 35 days Africa trip... :(

EOS Bodies / Focus screen for 1dx.
« on: June 13, 2012, 12:39:37 PM »
Canon website lists EC_CV as the focusing screen for 1dx which will help for macro work.

Will it be also the screen to buy for manuel focusing lenses like Zeiss etc? Also do these focusing screens make photography with auto focus lenses any tougher than the default screen?

Any help is appreciated.

Canon General / Beliefs and myths.
« on: May 29, 2012, 12:43:42 AM »

These are some ‘concepts’ I am living with a photographer. Would like it if you educate me where I am wrong or right. THX!!
You can add your own beliefs and myths for me to learn as well... :)

* With all other factors being equal, more megapixels will give better IQ except in high ISO.

* Raw files opened in Adobe or in DPP will have identical IQ.

* In real life situations the result from Zeiss lenses will be mostly indistinguishable from Canon lenses, all other factors being equal.

* The 5d3 is the camera to grab when getting the photo is of utmost importance rather than D800.

* Nikon makes better wide-angle lenses including wide-angle zooms than Canon.

* If the user understands Photoshop properly then Nik softwares are redundant.

* Film has lost the battle and digital rules and even looks better.

* Chromatic aberrations and lens vignette characteristics of a lens do not matter as these things can be fixed easily in Photoshop.

* The IQ of 1dx and 5d3 at ISO 100 will be same.

* Cropping in camera (1.6 factor) is not the same as cropping equal amount in post on a full frame camera.

* Mac computers have no real advantage over PC when it comes to processing photos.

* 99.9 percent of equipment complaints are user errors including the 5d3 criticisms.

* Canon will announce a high megapixel camera within six months.

* 1Dx will ship in reasonable quantities and will fill in the initial demand mostly.

* 5d3 will not eat into the sales of 1Dx.

* New equipment may not make better pictures but certainly do help in making better pictures and people should stop criticizing people who want to buy new gear.

* People who regularly visit photo forums or for that matter ‘pixel peep’ can also be wonderful photographers.

* Manuel focusing can be learned with practice and once second nature, it is almost as fast as shooting with auto focus for subjects not moving so fast.

* It is ok to use auto exposure modes available in camera and that does not make anyone a lesser photographer.

Lenses / Lesson learnt on flare.
« on: May 07, 2012, 10:53:56 AM »
I recently shot a backlit wrestling sequence on 5d2 with 24-105mm. Almost all the backlit photos have a strong flare. I had a UV filter on the lens.
I strongly suspect that this flare was there because of the filter. I wish I had shot without the filter.
Do you think the flair would have been less/not there if there was no filter?

EOS Bodies / 1DX V/S 5D3 Video
« on: March 16, 2012, 09:02:35 AM »
I thought I saw a post on this forum addressing the video quality comparison between the two cameras but cant find it, so asking the question: Is there any improvement in the video of 1dx in comparison to 5d3?
I use the bodies for stills, but make some money renting out my gear to short film makers.
I want to buy the 1dx for my wildlife photography but only if I think I will recover some money thru rentals (which is entirely by video guys).
If I rent out the 1dx at the same price at 5d3 would I be able to get more rentals from people who rent just 5d3?
Thx much.

EOS Bodies / QUICK PRE ORDER
« on: March 06, 2012, 10:02:18 AM »
Does anyone remember if pre-orders for 5d2 were available the day after it was announced? And was it to be available for sale within 30 odd days of announcement?
My mind is working overtime and wondering if Canon wants to sell as many 5d3's as it can in the announcement frenzy?
I know it is great for gear to be available for purchase right after release but does this match Canon's history?
Thx
