I headed the warning and bought what I could afford.

So...Canon chooses to announce a video-oriented pro DSLR a month *after* the biggest video show of the year? I don't think so.
right!
If you definately wanted a 5dMK2, would you be stupid to buy one now (assuming you could get one)
Based on lack of stock levels, and possibly an announcement of the replacement coming in the next few months.
I assume Canon will pick up production again of the 5Dmk2? after recent problems.
Also will canon stop 5Dmk2 production before the replacement is produced, basically im saying do you think the mk2 will be available even when the mk3 (assuming its called that) is acually available to buy.
Years ago I owned the 50 - 500mm sigma, and while optically it's a good enough lens its main problem is how slow it is. Max aperture at the long end is just f/6.3, it only manages autofocus because it tells the camera it's an f/5.6, so forget anything moving, this lens unless light levels are good is strictly for stationary objects.
My advice (FWIW) is to get hold of the new 120 - 300 f/2.8 OS Sigma (expensive) or buy a used one (still expensive but less than used!) with a 2X TC it's the cheapest way to get to 600mm with a 1.4X TC it's a viable rival to Canons 200 - 400mm f/4. Image quality is exceptionally good and there is no other lens from any maker to rival it, as a portrait lens it really excells with one pro I know using it instead of the Nikon 70 - 200mm f/2.8
Of all the lenses I own I think this one is one of the ones I'd least like to lose, the range from 120 - 600mm covers everything telephoto and with a fast aperture, it costs around half the Canon 300mm f/2.8 and it's a zoom! You could sell the Canon 70 - 200mm to fund it because you really won't need both.
The only real drawbacks are the size & weight, and the 105mm filters it takes.
I am/was also waiting for the 5D3 to be released; but with all the uncertainty with what's going on in Japan, on top of the uncertainty inherent to trying to make decisions based on rumors, I gave up waiting.
I, too, was waiting/hoping for a 5DIII, but I 'gave up' last October and bought a 5DII. It's a great camera, and every month that goes by with no announcement and yet more delays makes me even happier I stopped waiting. I'll get a 5DIII when it comes, and by then I think I'll have more than gotten my value from the depreciation on the 5DII.
I think you're just hoping no 5D3 for 2 years, because you just bought one. Hehe... For the rest of us, especially video people, it can't come fast of enough. I'm hoping June, but it will probably be later.
or even more.

"CR’s Take
I can get behind 2 new DSLRs in 2011, I don’t see 3 after all that’s gone on in Japan. Unless it’s a late 2011 announcement with a 2012 delivery.
, yeah I agree I don't see how any new dslr equipment could be rolling out, and what has occurred, it's a pretty touchy topic in due to what has happened, but everyone has it on their mind.
