Lenses / Re: What lens for 7D EF-S or L
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:50:41 PM »
I normally enjoy shooting landscape etc and want to get some lens, I currently have an XSI and want to upgrade to 7D or 7D2 or 70D depending on how much I can save up.. But figured I needed glass first.    So for a crop sensor what do most people like to use?   Since the wide L lenses are 28mm or equivalent to a 35mm EF-S I don't know if they will be wide enough.   Any thoughts?

Thanks

I strongly suggest 17-40 f/4 L USM lens... very good IQ and at a good price. for shallow DOF i suggest 50mm f/1.4.

Again, no. the whole idea of the EF-S lens is that the rear element is *really really* close to the sensor. Just how you intend to tweak a mirror so that it becomes smaller but still covers the same area is beyond me.

EXACTLY like Nikon have done.....

You do realise Nikon's DX doesn't work the same way as Canon's EF-S?

:) i meant in technology point of view....

...and is not very hard ( in terms of technology) to adapt the APS-H mirror to be compatible with EF-s lenses.
You aren't guaranteed the EF-S lenses will cover a full image circle.  That pretty much kills the discussion, I think.

Personally, 1.3X might not be a totally terrible compromise, though it would alter the field of view I get out of my lenses.  So long as any change meets the criteria I laid out above I'm down with it...but only if it meets ALL of them.

No one says to keep the full resolution of a APS-H sensor when an EF-S lens is used. I mean when you will use a EF-s lens on a... say... 20MP APS-H sensor you will have 12-13MP effective resolution ( the camera will crop the 1.3 sensor to 1.6).

We are surely missing the full picture here no?  There is a still market for pro-level APS-C, does it?

Jacques

A very big one...

If 7D had  1 stop better ISO quality at ISO 100 and 200 a had chose  7D. but IQ is more important than every other think that a Canon bodies can have.

As I said before... 7D was and still is one of the best sellers that canon ever had. WHY they discontinue a very, very well selling body???

OK they will '' rise in class '' with the 70D; same performance like 7D and many improvements..... BUT what about the Nikon D7000 VS 60D!!! do you really think Canon will allow Nikon to be alone in a DSLR category??? especially when we talk about a $1000 camera model.

PS. don't mention that the new Nikon D400 is around the corner.

Kill the 7D?? Where did this rumor come from?? Ridiculous!!! LOL!!! It's not going to happen any time soon.

the ''rumor'' came from many posts over various threads regarding the 7D combining with 5D in a 5DX...

hope canon will announce the 7D2 soon; i really need a fast , good quality (In terms of noise and sharpness) APS-C camera for my projects.

EOS Bodies / Canon will end the 7D series life?
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:00:20 AM »
Personally... i don't think so.

the reason is simple:

If canon will end the 7D series, than Nikon will be alone (whit the D300s replacement) in the APS-C area without a real competitor. And the semipro APS-C marketplace is huge.

I speculated before that Canon may be doing some big changes to the xD line and that they may do away with the APS-C in the xD line, leaving the xxD to be the king of the crops. IF they build an affordable FF sports shooter (new 5DIII?), will there be room for a 7D in the pro line?

I of course pulled this out of my a**, but it seems more and more likely.

Yes, an APS-H or APS-C sensor is very well needed in xD series (my opinion). the only reason is the extra 1.3 - 1.6 crop factor extra reach.

Canon is a company they doing business not charity and ending the life of a very well selling body is a mistake.

Why to end a very well selling DSLR line? its not make any sense. Even with the 5Dmk3 (rated at $ 3k) the 7D mk2 will have a huge potential at $1600-1800

Don't mention that Nikon will launch in the near future the new Nikon D400.

If the rumors are true, than Canon have did the smartest move. launching two 5d cameras ( one with very good ISO performance and one with high MP) will ''reconcile'' all canon users. Everybody will have the opinion to chose what they want: High MP or good ISO performance and speed.

I really hope that the rumors are true.

Am looking to invest in a new set of L lenses for this 1.6x crop factor DSLR

Mainly with interests in macro, landscape and wildlife, I was thinking of:

24-105mm IS L

17-40mm L or 16-35mm L

70-300mm IS L (or preferably 100-400mm replacement, if it ever comes)

100mm IS L Macro

- Would these be wise choices? - Thanks for your help

I will recommend  these lenses :

17-40 f4 L
50mm f/1.4
70-200 f/4L IS

EOS Bodies / Re: Anyone else want a cropped sensor?

Yes, i want a cropped sensor... a 7D mk2 that use a APS-H sensor ( cropped :) ) and the ability to use EF-s lenses.

EOS Bodies / Re: How does Canon respond to the D800?
« on: February 08, 2012, 06:52:35 AM »
Regarding the response from canon....

I said in the past and I'll say it again; the 1D4 have 16MP using a APS-H sensor. Upgrade that APS-H sensor to FF and you will get around 27MP on a full frame sensor. If the new 5D will have a 28MP sensor and 1D4 high ISO performance than will ''destroy'' the Nikon D800.

EOS Bodies / Re: The Ultimate Question - Buy a 5D MKII today or wait?
« on: February 08, 2012, 03:41:09 AM »
When the new 5D will be announced the price of the current 5D2 will drop even more (maybe under $ 2K ); than i will buy a 5D2 regardless of the new 5D camera specs.

For what i need 5D2 is very suitable.

285
let me tell you what i will do:

I will wait 1-2 months until the 5DmK3 is announced and buy a brand new 5Dmk2 at $2000 or under. For what i use the camera (microstock and studio) 21 MP and very good IQ is more than enough.
