I've lurked and read the forums for a long time now... Don't often log on to post. I did today to let Wilmark know that he is a horrible person.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: DSLR and zoom lens for ~$1,000.00 USD?
« on: August 28, 2012, 11:37:59 PM »
I'm in a similar position... probably looking to buy in the next month or so (want to hear what's coming at Photokina first). I did call up Canon yesterday, and through the Canon Loyalty Program, I was quoted $639.99 for the 60D (body only). I would love to pair it with the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8, but that's rarely available via CLP, apparently. So my next option would likely be the EF-S 15-85... would have been out the door for approx $1200 all together.

An amazing camera in the hands of some very talented individuals. Impressive shots all around.

Personally, I'll be purchasing before my honeymoon at the end of November... so I'm very curious what I'll be choosing from then. :)

Between the D3200 and mirrorless... yes, Canon should worry. Especially since it doesn't appear they have any reasonable response this round. Old sensor plus Digic 5 equals... what, exactly?

We shall see.

As for the high end, Canon really ought to worry there too. Oh they'll sell a ton of 5DIIIs.... it's a wonderful camera... but Nikon hit a home run with their D800 too.

Hopefully Canon has some advances up their sleeves; markets can turn pretty quickly.

Lenses / Re: Canon Refurb Store ... Not Such A Good Deal
« on: May 08, 2012, 08:30:54 AM »
Browsing in the lens section of the Canon Refurb store today I noticed an interesting paradox.

Currently in the market for a teleconverter, the 1.4 II is listed at $349 in the Refurb outlet:

However, the same product - brand new - can be had for less at B&H:

I was browsing various refurb camera bodies on there yesterday and was thinking to myself that the prices seemed generally higher across the board than they were even a couple of weeks ago. No reason for you to be drawn and quartered in this thread.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon Rebel T4i [CR2]

Of course, the current 18MP sensor isn't rubbish, but how many times is Canon going to milk that cow? How is Canon going to convince people to buy the T4i and not a D3200? I'm very curious to find out.

Oh, and can't forget the obligatory "Gimme new 70D and 7DII". For half the current model's prices.  :D

I knew I had just read a similar thread... check it out and the link included in the first post. Thought it was interesting.

EOS Bodies / Re: differences in color between Mark ii and Mark iii?
« on: April 26, 2012, 10:34:40 PM »
This thread is a terrific example why a new member would give 2 (or 3) thoughts before asking anything here. Less than half reasonable responses with the remainder... let's say less than friendly at best. I was genuinely curious too, since it was pretty easy to see the purple tinge to his hair as described. Sure we got there in the end but the journey wasn't as nearly nice as it could have been.

MacBook screens tend to be pretty color accurate if I recall as well.

They aren't and have never been anything close to color accurate in comparison with industry standard color correct displays.  (I have not checked this in about 5 months)  In fact they usually have a hyper contrast and over driven vibrance that gives them an incredible 'pop' which throws off what your images will look like on other monitors and in print.  It's like putting some cool effects on your images that will not show the same on anything other than very similar equipment, that isn't good for consistency.

My bad. I was mixing it up with the reviews of the new iPad screen, which apparently is very color accurate.

Fact is, camera specs the likes of the D3200 even a year or two ago at the $699 price point would be considered insane. Like it or not, there is a LOT of value in it. I hope Canon at least matches the value, preferably, exceeds it.

EOS Bodies / Re: New Extensive Firmware for the Canon EOS 7D? [CR1]

If this is true... it doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies that we've got a new APS-C sensor coming any time soon.

Rumors swirling that the refreshed Ivy Bridge MacBook Pros will be more Air-like in their design and potentially have high-res screens- Apple has at least shown an interest in heading that way with their other products, so it's a reasonable rumor. MacBook screens tend to be pretty color accurate if I recall as well.

Memory and batteries are all replaceable if you are comfortable opening it up.

Personally, I've had no problems whatsoever moving from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion.

Not trying to evangelize or anything. I've just had nothing but rock solid experiences with my MacBooks. I just hope they too move to higher-res screens.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 650D - sensor size?
« on: April 20, 2012, 08:03:03 AM »
If the 650D/T4i comes out with a variant of the existing 18MP sensor.... then Nikon is going to sell a boatload of D3200's. Have to tip your cap to them, they have put out an extremely capable shooter at the $699 price point. The next 650D has to at least match this value proposition.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon is getting owned in sensor technology
« on: April 19, 2012, 12:54:55 PM »
90% of all visitors of DXOmark have NO clue how DXO is measuring sensor performance.
and from the 10% who know, only half understand why they measure that way.
This is EXACTLY why Canon has an enormous marketing problem on their hands.
