This is so frustrating. How long has it been that we keep hearing that "next month", "next quarter", "end-of-year", "the beggining of the year" there may be an annoucement for the new 7D. >:(. The last time we thought we would hear somthing in March... now its 2nd quarter.

Good advice! Thanks.

The recent Adobe offer for $9.99/month looks like a good deal. You get PS CC and LR5. I mainly use LR4 to touchup my photos (raw) and upload to SmugMug. I am an amateur. My question is what can I do in CC that I cannot do in LR4 for my BASIC touchups (exposure, noise, cropping, shadows, highlights etc.).

EOS Bodies / Re: Black Friday Special: Refurb 7D or 70D NEW

Thanks everyone for you tips and advise. The reason I don't use my 5DIII is because it does not have the 1.6 reach that the 40D has. It does not matter what end of the field I am shooting from the girls always gravitate to the opposite side of the field, so I have to crop and crop…

I will dig out my 2x extender that I rarely use. I cannot remember if it will work with my 5DIII and 70-200 combo.

EOS Bodies / Black Friday Special: Refurb 7D or 70D NEW

I purchased a refurbished 7D from Adorama. I am having second thoughts  :-\ and may cancel the order and purchase a new 70D. Please advise on your experience in purchasing refurbished cameras.

The reason I purchased it was because I currently use a 40D for girls soccer and I hate it. It has really bad image quality (10MP) when I crop in on my shots.

I can't wait any longer for the 7DII. My daughter is a junior and will only play soccer for another year. I have no need for a crop frame beyond that. So my choices are to buy a cheap refurbished 7D or buy a new 70D.

Canon General / How to prevent condensation?

How long do I need to let my camera and lens sit in a plastic bag when going from an AC environment to a hot and humid environment? I waited about 30 minutes and the lens did not fog up. Could I have removed it from the bag sooner? I am on vacation and I hate that I have to wait for my lens to adjust to the environment temp before shooting pics.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Monopod & Head recommendations

How much lens do you need to support?

I've previously used a Manfrotto 694CX carbon fiber monopod with the 234 tilt head (and a Wimberley C-12 clamp on top for AS plates).  Sturdy, light, pretty smooth and supports up to a 70-200/2.8 or 100-400 with a gripped body.

I currently have a Really Right Stuff MC-34 carbon fiber monopod with the MH-02 Pro head.  Simply awesome.  Supports my 1D X + 600mm f/4L IS II just fine.

Thanks for the recommendations. I need support for a 70-200, so I think you first suggestion would work for me.

What monopod / head combination do you recommend for shooting soccer. I guess I am more concerned with the head attachment. I want something that moves smoothly. I have a cheap monopod that I used this weekend and I am thinking I may need to upgrade. I did not have a head on it, so it did not move very smoothly.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D III with 2X extender on a 2.8 70 - 200 Lens

Thanks for the quick response. I am shooting pics of my daughter's soccer tournament game today and at the first game i did notice a lag in the focusing. I did not know about the reduction in the AF. I am going to her second game in a few moments and I think I will leave the extender in the hotel room. I kind of regret bringing my FF on this trip. I think next time I will use my crop frame camera.

I cannot find the threads that discussed issues using an extender on a 5D III. It had something to do with aperture 8.0. Can someone refresh my memory on what that the issue was?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Is it safe to shoot my DSLR at the beach?
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:20:30 PM »
I am going on beach vacation in a couple of weeks and want to shoot pictures with my new camera  :). I know not to change lenses while outside to avoid dust inside my camera. However, I am paranoid about using my camera on the beach. Do you advise against taking my camera to the beach or do you have tips on how I can keep my camera clean?

I know that crops are better for sports, but I was wondering if anyone is happy using the Mark 5D III for action shots.

Yes, if the price is not too much higher than $3K. If it is, then maybe I will consider a mark II.
