Third Party Manufacturers / Monopod & Head recommendations
« on: November 12, 2012, 01:16:12 PM »
What monopod / head combination do you recommend for shooting soccer. I guess I am more concerned with the head attachment. I want something that moves smoothly. I have a cheap monopod that I used this weekend and I am thinking I may need to upgrade. I did not have a head on it, so it did not move very smoothly.

EOS Bodies / 5D III with 2X extender on a 2.8 70 - 200 Lens
« on: September 01, 2012, 06:05:55 PM »
I cannot find the threads that discussed issues using an extender on a 5D III. It had something to do with aperture 8.0. Can someone refresh my memory on what that the issue was?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Is it safe to shoot my DSLR at the beach?
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:20:30 PM »
I am going on beach vacation in a couple of weeks and want to shoot pictures with my new camera  :). I know not to change lenses while outside to avoid dust inside my camera. However, I am paranoid about using my camera on the beach. Do you advise against taking my camera to the beach or do you have tips on how I can keep my camera clean?

I know that crops are better for sports, but I was wondering if anyone is happy using the Mark 5D III for action shots.

EOS Bodies / The next 5D - 100% VF Feature - What is this good for?

I have only been shooting for about 3 years on a 40D. I am not familiar with this feature. How is this feature beneficial?

I acted too slowly to take advantage of low price ($70) B&H was offering. I may make the switch if I see prices fall again.

Lenses / Handheld shooting: FF vs. Crop
« on: February 10, 2012, 10:23:29 AM »
I am not a big fan of tripods or monopods. I prefer to hand hold my 40D camera, but I know that once you go past a 300mm range you risk blurry shots.

I am considering a FF camera as my next purchase and want to know if there is a difference between hand holding a FF camera and a cropped camera using an IS lens with a long reach.

Lenses / Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM??

I have a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, can you tell me if this can be used with a FF camera?

Do FF cameras perform better in low light conditions such as in a high school gym or at an outdoor stadium at night? Would a 5D Mark II be my best choice for upgrading from a 40D? I was considering a 7D, however, I have read a couple of entries on this forum where it is mentioned that the 7D is not as clear as the 40D.

I have been using a 40D with my 70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM lens. I mainly shoot High School soccer in daylight. I am happy with my clear shots. I want to upgrade my camera. I want a camera that I can shoot indoor sports such as basketball/volleyball in a school gym and nighttime outdoor stadium games. Even with my 2.8 lens (and high ISO setting), I am not happy with my indoor sports shots.

I look forward to your advise on which type of camera I should purchase next.
