those stores may have stock, but Canon USA will not allow stores to sell them until a certain date. same with Canon Australia.

chatted with a B&H rep the other day and they said they will start shipping as soon as they came in, this was in response to me asking if they had to wait until 3-22.

I just called B&H to amend the shipping location. I spoke to two guys, both of whom towed the party line. No word on stock or shipping, but we will be emailed as and when. Lame.

Thanks for the update. I do hope they will update the status soon and send us some ETA emails.

Pretty sure in the next weeks that will be lots of unboxing threads/pics lol.

They really aren't able to do that because they don't know how many they will be getting in each shipment.  However I wish they would tell us where we are on the list so we have at least some idea.  I got my order in 3-1 after it was announced (I'm in Seattle), about 30 minutes after I got my confirmation email I got their mass email with the pre-order links to their site so at least I'm ahead of all those folks.

March 15th, Just got off the phone with BH. I am #118 in the cue, I ordered about 30 seconds after the pre-order page came up on their site. My order was termed a "backorder" but 5 minutes later the page was updated to "pre-order".  Hope that helps with those trying to figure out where they stand in line at BH. I was told there were thousands of orders and after the initial shipment, they should be recieving 5-10 per day... YIKES!!!!

Sounds like I'm pretty close to you in line, it read "backordered" as well.  Saw a link on the forum I was on and placed my order, about 30 minutes I got B&H's mass email with links to pre-order it.  My confirmation email came in at 9:17pm west coast time.

Got my initial order in very quickly RIGHT after announcement (backorder NOT pre-order screen) and I received a confirmation email AND an email with billing info, AND my CC was actually charged.   
When I looked at my CC statement this week, I saw the original bill posted,BUT a few lines later, I also saw a "credit" reversing the original charge    Tried to reach B&H to see what's up, but they are closed today.  Have ordered a few other things from them in the past, but never a pre-order (backorder) item like this. 
Should I be more worried than everyone else ??

Same situation as you (but I haven't checked my cc statement regarding the credit), I think B&H ran an authorization to see if the funds were there and your card will actually be billed once it ships, I think that's what the "credit" means.  For confirmation though it is best to check with B&H.  I'll be a little ticked if my order is scratched because I got it in too early but the only email I have received is my order confirmation so I'm assuming everything is good to go.

The way for Canon to make a splash here is simple, price.

Price it at $2699, just like the 5d2 at release. Drop the 5D2 to $1999. And voila. Loads of sales.

The thing that doesn't add up about the rumors is the price. $3500 is a lot of coin. The inclusion of the 24-105 kit lens in that price makes a lot more sense. So I imagine that's the deal.

The 24-105 is too much money to do that, I could see the 28-135 or something close to that price range (although I'd be stoked if it was the 24-105).

Yes as long as the price doesn't go over $3,500 (curious if this is packaged with a lens but I doubt it).  I currently have a 40D so this will be a significant upgrade for me.  If I had the 5DMII and these specs do turn out to be accurate then I don't think it would be a significant improvement to warrant an upgrade.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed. Canon still don't have a built-in eyepiece cover for the 5D line like the Nikon D700 - making you use that S___ty little rubber eyepiece cover that might be attached to your neck strap, if you use a neck strap.

ummm... are you serious?  As a professional, I cant say i've ever in the last decade thought in the back of my mind... I wish my camera had an eyepiece cover... Never... Not once...  I think it could be a nuisance more than anything else... when I want my camera ready to shoot, it better be ready to shoot... If any dust gets in the peice, I'll take a qtip and clean it... done.

Sounds like you need to go back to camera school - it's nothing to do with dust. It's for light leakage doing low-light long exposures. Star trails, Lee Big Stopper work especially. Read you camera manual about why it's useful, and in some cases required. Similarly it's why we use lens hoods. Not all light is good light.

Can't remember if it was on my 10D or 40D canon neck strap that came with the camera but there was a little rubber rectangle on the portion you thread through the loops.  If you take the eye piece off the camera view finder that rubber rectangle has guides on it and you actually use it to cover the viewfinder and it caps it so there is no light leakage.  It's kind of a nuisance to have to remove that cover but it works.
