EOS Bodies / Re: Any new news about Canon 1D X f/8 AF?
« on: May 08, 2012, 08:10:02 AM »
Canon let me used a 1D X last week at the Florida's Birding & Photo Fest 2012 in which I was part of the speakers group.

I talked to them about the f/8 issue and the answer was the same. It's because the way they have the AF points.

Here is an image with a non-production body.

Last night I tested the camera again with my 800mm and other lenses including the 70-200mm f/4. I didn't notice any difference with the IS.

I must have a body without the issue. ;D

I found a report about EF800mm 5.6L at Fred Miranda

One person reported that the 800mm had the same problem as the 200 f/2:

I just finished my Spoonbills & More workshop hand-holding the 800mm and 5D MKIII on a boat and I didn't experienced this. I'll check it out again but that's something I would have noticed.

I've used it with my 70-200mm f/4 IS L lens single and attached with my 1.4x III without the problem mentioned. I've also used it with my Canon 800mm L f/5.6 IS L lens and I haven't experience anything out of the ordinary.

Good luck to those with issues.

Hope you like it.
Beautiful shot!  Did you apply noise reduction?  It looks very clean.

Nope. I didn't touch it. No sharpening either.

First Image With The New 5D MKIII - Sandhill Crane Nest

I recieved my new 5D MKIII yesterday and decided to go to this nest and try the camera. Today I'll have more time to test the AF and such during my Spoonbills & More Workshop.

Here is a 1920px version of it. Sorry about the watermark but you know how it is..

Hope you like it.

I also live here in Florida. Have you seen the weather sealing on the new 5D MKIII? it's superb!! If you haven't had any problems with a 5D MKII (I haven't) you should not have any problems.

Trust me, I put my 5D MKII, 7D, Canon 800mm L lens and tripod on my kayak when I photograph birds and I haven't had any problems at all.

You should be fine!

You may want to edit the title of this thread as it can be misleading. Just a thought.

Congrats with your new camera.

EOS Bodies / 1D X - f/8 Issue Activated?
« on: March 16, 2012, 07:15:48 PM »
On this thread

I read the following (BLUE PARAGRAPH)

If you also think this is rubbish, fill out a Canon online contact form and tell them, maybe they will do something about, they activated the F8 autofocus for the 1DX didnt they? Maybe there is still hope.

Can someone confirm this please? if so, link??

EOS Bodies / Re: EOS-1D Mk IV Production/Delivery Issues?
« on: March 16, 2012, 06:55:44 PM »
I just got a new one three days ago. One of the reason this camera still a hot ticket is because the 1D X doesn't AF at f/8 which means bad news for nature photographers including myself. I waited for a while to see what Canon was going to replace the 1D MKIV with,I but I never expected the 1D X. I immediately purchased one because there is a good change we will not see a pro 1.3 crop factor body.

Remember in the Press Release Canon did say that the 1D X replaced the 1D MKIV and 1Ds III bodies.

That looks terrific man... Excellent!

Thank you for sharing!

Can you please find out if the 1D X will focus at f/8 like the 1D MK4? Meaning a f/4 lens with a 2X attached.

There has been a lot of talk about Canon not supporting f/8 any longer which is a huge problem for wildlife photographers.

Thank you.
