I don't have any more the 5D2 (with similar resolution as the 5D3) but to me the image quality with crappy Nikon zoom lens in front of the D800 looks rather great at 100%  - http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=4299.msg146875#msg146875

Here's another one, hand held (well a wall is used for partial support). So much about the useless camera which can be used only on a tripod deciding by this forum:

And with a 3D feeling:

Consumers should not settle for good enough, when they can have great.
..
The idea behind ‘Bring It’ is to encourage people to strive to not only take better pictures and videos, but to take their cameras wherever they go, allowing them to tell their unique visual stories -stories that will stand out from the crowd and last a lifetime

Apparently, just great is not good enough to have the hassle what carrying/paying for the extra brings.

I'd have preferred this campaign money put into R&D instead - excellence (not just greatness) is what attracts by itself. Do it for real.

As already covered in previous threads I think there is no threat to the 1Dx.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon D4S IQ
« on: February 26, 2014, 10:24:53 AM »
It seems D4S is now a worthy competitor to 1DX.

It seems you're jumping to conclusions…

From the original article in which those comparison pictures on NR were posted: "The following pictures are all 100% crops of straight out of camera jpeg fine."

So the real conclusion is that the D4s has a better JPEG conversion engine than the D4.  BFD.  If you want to draw any conclusions about IQ, you need to compare RAW images.

Excuse me, you expect the RAWs to be worse than jpgs?

Interestingly, I've also had it suggested that if i was looking for an Epson 3880, then I might like to wait a few weeks.

This is interesting. A small footprint A2+ printer from Canon or the Epson 3880 update?

EOS Bodies / Re: Will the next xD cameras do 4k?

Maybe because 4K is what gets me interested in video, perhaps?

How do you like your 4K TV?  Also, what computer/UHD-monitor/software setup do you have to edit your 4K video?

Why all the attention to output, not to the process?

Are you using your digital images always without cropping, printing always at maximum size?

There are benefits for having extra.

Just to back up of having 4K capability for producing 1080p output:

4K 8bit 4:2:0 on the Panasonic GH4 converts to 1080p 10bit 4:4:4

Smartphone owners might ask what extra a SLR can do that their smartphone can't. Is it clearly expressed in specs, in the promotional materials?

4K smartphone, slow motion hd 120fps:

Yes, it has the IQ quality issues in low light due to small sensor, but it has got something which "modern" SLRs lack.

Small sensor compacts are already lost niche to smartphones, looks like it is the time for entry level SLRs to sell much less in quantity (relative to the past performance), and the smartphones are to be blamed again. No wonder though looking at the "efforts". Yeah, sounds whining but let's see the financial reports next fiscal year. Wanna bet?

Couple of random thoughts:
  • Canon might decide not to implement 4K but if others do Canon has less "gimmicks" for marketing. Reacting too often with lag creates an impression of follower rather than market leader, in the long run.
  • 4K might be useful even when the output is not 4K. It is always better to have some sort of reserve. Cropping in photos seems to be normal practice, right? Downscaling helps to improve the quality too.

> Will Canon Answer the D4s?

As others have pointed out there is not much need in this particular context.

However I wonder about the future strategy of Canon and other (top) camera makers.

At this point in time I think to have more quantity sold (read: maintain the same levels) more disruptive technologies are needed. A bigger, more expensive and heavier camera must make a difference, a lot of difference to catch the interest. Majority of professionals (who make living of photography) can get easily by less than the top end. Then there are wealthy amateurs. For an average consumer the camera what matters most is the camera what happens to be at hand and that is a "smart"phone. Fortunately most of us (not only having this forum in mind), it gets you there, though it's a different story for the camera makers. Without much effort, it all goes back how it happened to be - small cameras are today's phones and the rest are for a remaining small group, really interested to make the difference. But can you, in the light of the fragmentation in features (all brands included)? It is much easier to give up and just go for the less trouble.

Nice camera, I like it.

I also own a Fuji x100s, might replace that for Df.

I might be in complete minority, but personally I find/found the Canon recent offers so uninspiring that I switched.
That said I miss some Canon qualities like the handling feel and the lenses, though in overall I'm at the time being more happy with what I have now. Still open to any future propositions, I have a feeling for some great announcements happening at Photokina next year, from all the makers.

Adobe: "To be clear, $9.99 is not an introductory price. It is the price for those of you who sign up by December 31, 2013."

For how long?

Does it imply that if one signs up later than December 31, 2013, one will get a higher price from there on? I suppose there will be an option for those, even without PS.

So anybody joining in at a later stage will pay more?

If so, why should I believe that the price is not the "To be clear, $9.99 is not an introductory price" i.e. there will exist two pricing for the same thing after the December 31, 2013. If there are co-existing 2 pricing, I suppose they become the same at some point, supposedly the higher one taking over?

Looks to me, it is a try to get the owners of a CS 3 or higher on board with a limited time offer and they need to pay more than 10$ after a while.

EOS Bodies / Re: The Next EOS M Camera(s) [CR1]
« on: July 09, 2013, 09:26:23 AM »
I strongly suspect that EOS-M sales have been disappointing

As there is no other plausible explanation for such a price cut I agree.

Interesting though how much Canon has learned from this i.e. how much crippled the next M will be.

What concerns the dual pixel system I take it for granted for the next M:
1) new technology is what helps to sell products
2) it is not really such a big difference, still far cry from PDAF so it doesn't add extra competition
3) most probably the technology has even bigger potential in the next iteration so the 70D version of this technology will not last too long

All that said I still don't have much interest in Canon cameras, there are much more interesting alternatives for my preferences. Only sound innovation could change that.
