It's not September yet.

Right, I know what month it is.

Does anybody have a more useful update on the delays for this lens and what happened with delay?  I assume from Mr. Grumpy above that it's due next month?

Again, no clue what this'll be like on those dinky little APS-C toys. To repeat, I see the Shorty McForty mounted to my 5DIII as a Leica X2 killer. As in, stomp all over, kill crush destroy, mop the floor with Leica X2 killer.

I have the 4.3" small HD. I'm not 100% happy to be honest.  The new 5D3 does something weird as you press the info button in that it changes the screen resolution. 

I have to choose between the image not using 100% of the screen or having the info cut of by the edges.  It's possible that there is a solution out there that I don't know about but if I was buying today I'd keep looking.  SmallHD or Canon needs to fix it.

Maybe I'm a newb. How does this bracket help you take pictures?  It seems like a tripod head can hold the camera sideways just fine.

I'm not sure if this matters to this crowd but I'm pretty sure that youtube already supports 4k video. I don't know the bitrate or other relevant details but when 4k videos start hitting artist's hands youtube will start serving them.

Seriously, stop trying to be a sensationist! It's because of the fluorescent lighting, every camera will do this at those shutter speeds. Fault of lighting, not camera... the lights cycle, have people making claims like this ever used a camera before?

I know something that somebody else didn't know.  Quick, get on the internet and be the biggest jerk I can possibly be about it!!!

Damn, the guy just wanted to know why it happened. Feeling a little sensitive?

I might be crazy but I can't imagine buying a brand other than Canon or Nikon.  When you're choosing a camera you're not just picking a body, you're choosing a platform.  Once you sign up for a given platform you're locked into an entire world of lenses and other accessories. 

Canon and Nikon will have just about anything you need.  Is the same true for a panasonic?  What do people do about all the other things that make up a camera? Do they use lens adapters to get the wealth of options offered to us?

I agree that at least the 5D3 looks more like pro-tailored body rather than high end amateur.

Just wanted to comment the mentioned features in the light of mirrorless progression, which seems to be quite impressive - shorter update cycles compred to SLRs and more innovation. Some of them already provide enough for a special professional use and sometimes even surprass in specs.

* Olympus EM-5:
   - fully weather sealed (5D3 is not though improved from 5D2)
   - flash sync speed up to 1/250th sec  (5D3 - 1/200)
   - 9fps  (ok - 4 with the AF)
   - "world's fastest" (presumably for single-acquisition AF) - needs to be verified of course
   - ISO up to 25600 and not bad for a much smaller sensor

* Fuji x 1 Pro:
   - high DR with very usable pushing, good detail & rendering (lack of AA & unique bayer pattern)

* Fuji x100:
  - with leaf shutter up 1/2000 f-sync
  - now this camera is silent, forget all those "silent modes" in other cameras

* Panasonic GH2:
   - impressive video (with hacks)
   (can't wait to see the new GH3 model, probably due to Photokina this year)

* Generally speaking of non-SLR cameras:
   - contrast AF doesn't need AF tweaking though speeds are not yet comparable to high end SLRs

Sorry if something worth mentioning is left out, that was just a quick try.

Really? I'm honestly surprised to hear that:
* Dual cards
* Pro AF
* Improved weather sealing
* More FPS
* EC +/- 5 stops
* Improvement to focus microadjust
* Reduction in shutter lag
* Viewfinder improvement
* X-sync improvement
* Silent mode shooting

These are pro features, especially the AF.

Understand that the 5d3 isn't what everyone wanted, but the one thing I don't think can be claimed is this was was a camera for consumers. Consumers would generally not want a pro AF but would likely want more MP. Not saying the pro market doesn't want more MP either, but if they were going for the consumer market I have no doubt MP would have increased since consumers with 5dii's would look at the 5diii as no real improvement for them.

Personally, I think this is marketing crap. Of course Canon would like every well-off amateur with a 7d or 5d to feel like they are almost professionals since they got alleged pro gear. After all, this is what the red ring and white lens campaign is for. But except maybe for landscape and semi-pro portrait/wedding, every pro I ever saw at events in Berlin had a 1D body, sometimes an older one. Most of them have Nikon anyway. Maybe some will get the 5d3, but the fps imho might be too slow for events.

Interesting. I met a pro photog at a UFC even and she used a pair of 7Ds with 70-200L and 24-70L lenses. 

I'm sort of a minor league celeb so last week I was in Hollywood on a shoot.  The video stuff was all some kind of Panasonic camera (medium format?) and the still work was a Canon 7D with a 24-70L lens.  On a related note, it was my first time getting makeup for a shoot with a pro makeup artist.  That was super cool.  They had a guy who's job it was to clean the bottom of my shoes before I went on stage.  That was just awkward. I'm not really special enough for that kind of treatment.

The only other pro I know does weddings with a 5Dii.  So yeah, based on my little bit of exposure I'd say that people make their living with 7D and 5D's.

I preordered my 5D and I've been torturing myself by reading forum posts about how terrible it is ever since. It's made me question my decision. Is a pair of L lenses and three others enough to keep me on this horrible platform?

Seeing this made me feel a lot better.  To be honest, it's really going to be about what the picture/video is of and not what you took it with. Thanks.

Wow, those samples look terrible, but then again I hate HDR. Hopefully the feature will be of more merit when in practice in the hands of those that take a more tasteful approach to HDR.

The landscape/water picture looked pretty cool to me.  I think I'm one of the rare guys that actually likes HDR.

I'm disappointed that so many of the samples were of a wedding dress near marble columns. All my favorite HDR images involve the landscapes, city scapes, etc.  I bet I'm not alone in thinking, "It would be nice if this camera put those shots in my hands."

I wish I had it. Sometimes I film myself and need a stand in to set the focus with. Sometimes I use a glide cam and I can't change the focus without bumping it or otherwise ruining the shot.

I wouldn't use it all the time but it's a nice feature that I'd love to have included.
