EOS Bodies / Re: tripod help for EF 600mm f4 IS USM?
« on: May 16, 2012, 07:52:18 PM »
Gitzo GT3541XLS seems to be discontinued at B&H what is the weight rating, height and weight of the tripod? I see it for sale on Amazon, but it had no information other than rated to use up to a 500mm (lighter than the 600mm).

EOS Bodies / tripod help for EF 600mm f4 IS USM?
« on: May 16, 2012, 06:30:26 PM »
So, I tried using B&H website, but obviously it's help is counter productive. This is the items I have ordered. I am trying to return all unnecissary items and items that don't work together.

1) Gitzo GT3531LSV tripod legs 75mm thread (didn't realise it didn't have a head)
2) Wimberly WH-200 -- clearly the head I want to use, recommended through and through
3) Wimberly WIFC600 replacement foot -- recommended by B&H website for some unknown reason
4) Wimberly p50 - Wh200 mounting bracket for 600 f4
5) Wimberly BS-100 screw adapter -- cheap so don't mind having extra
6) Gitzo GS3511S -- tripod head which is recommended by B&H website for my tripod, but doesn't even fit it!!

I am confused, and have a 600 f4 IS USM just waiting for me to be able to use as soon as my tripod is set up! How do I get the WH-200 on the tripod legs Gitzo GT3531LSV? HELP PLEASE!!

Now for more practical advise: use Tv (time value) mode and select a faster speed and let the camera do the rest if the most important thing to you is the lack of blur. Personally, I wouldn't mind the blur in the legs as I would mind the lack of blur in the background. Setting your camera to Av mode and selecting an aperature around 2.8 should give a nicer look, isolating your subject from distractions in the background.

Iv always been big into photography and just got my first nice camera (none hand me down) a Canon Powershot SX30IS (zoom lens 35x is, 4.3-150.5mm 1:2.7-5.8 usm) and I love taking photos of my animals mostly my horse. What is the best mode/settings to take action shots of horses? So a leg(s) don't blur.
Oh tips for bird shots be great to

While you are at it, what are the best ingrediants for the best dinner, and what are the best tools for a medical procedure, and what are the best colors to use for a painting? Depends on the surrounding conditions. If you look at the latest 1dx reviewer, he consistantly used 1/13,000 for a camera speed for pictures of birds in flight, but depending on the lens aperature, iso setting and light levels, this may not be the best advice.

EOS Bodies / Re: Any new news about Canon 1D X f/8 AF?
« on: May 10, 2012, 09:29:20 PM »
1D mk IV AF at f8 is a little slower, but yes, it seems to be accurate. I have been using it for a few weeks, and as an ameature used to a 7d, I was not impressed with AF outside of single point to be frank. I just leave it on center point and adjust the framing. My 7d seems faster having to only deal with 19 points instead of the 1D Mk IV's 45 points. I am waiting for the 1Dx to be shipped and see how different the AF system is.

Since Canon took the time to deliver the 60Da, I was hoping for a 7Dn  n for nature.

As a bird photographer, the 7d is almost perfect.     Almost every bird shot is 50% or greater cropped, and the 7D with 18MP density and fast focusing system is key...

The ONLY issue I have with the 7d is the buffer when shooting raw.  I often run use the 16 frames in 2 seconds and miss shots waiting...

So the 7D is near perfect for me, so I hope they don't screw anything up with the next model.

really? Your timing is so bad you need more than 2 full seconds of a moment?? Maybe you should just stick to video recording and picking frames out of it. 720 @60fps should give you 1 you like, no?

I couldn't decide myself between these three options of upgrades or even if I need to upgrade for low light. I want a 600mm too, but I am putting that on the back burner until I decide between the bodies.

EOS Bodies / Re: The Last Generation of the Crop Sensor Cameras
« on: April 26, 2012, 06:47:31 PM »
When crop sensors and mirrored dslrs are obsolete are probably when cameras themselves are obsolete. We'll all have bionic eyes and brains that record everything using biological based signals to control zoom and focus.

Before that generation focusing will become obsolete, with cameras taking information and focus will be selected in post processing.

I planned to do low light high iso noise tests, and fps tests examples. Is there anything else you would like to see tested? 1Dx Intelligent tracking or AF perhaps?

I pre-ordered a 1Dx and just bought a 2nd hand 1D mk IV and plan on testing them out vs my 7d. Anyone else interested in my results?
