EOS Bodies / Re: 5d mkiii or 1dx? lens help?
« on: March 19, 2012, 10:19:07 PM »
So, decided to try a $650 used Tamron 200-500 first before blowing $13 on the 600f4 is ii, so I could afford a 1 dx and a 24-70 ii. I felt $20 was too much for a hobby when I drive a $3k car. Is this a crap lens?

I thought $13k lens with a 7d? No, I just can't swallow spending that much cash on any one thing. My most expensive car was $3500.
1dx with an old hard to find 600f4 is USM for $7,000 ea -good, but then no 24-70 $ left
I like the 5d mk iii, but I wonder what it will lack for $3k less. I am still tossing and turning at night debating this.

The smart thing would be to not buy any of the above and wait until after I replace my '00 Toyota Echo car, but I love the mpg. It has 160,000 mi on it.

EOS Bodies / firmware updates?
« on: March 19, 2012, 10:59:01 AM »
So rumored f8 firmware update for the 1dx led me to ask, ok do how would one update a camera's firmware?

I own a 7d, not sure what would improve if I updated.

Like you said, the AF is great to have on both cameras (though it makes it harder for me to justify it to myself to buy the 1dx   ;D)

I like the low light improvements. I am mostly want a 2nd body to my 7d for that reason alone.

The kid in me loves the idea of playing with the 14fps on the 1dx!

Yeah, probably be joining you, but I am still worried about which FF. Not sure it's really worth $3k more, but I really want the best. Don't need the best, but do want it.

Who cares? HTe 7D mk ii will cost a whole lot, way too much imao, and not deliver a whole lot more than the underpowered original.

mmmmm - had a go at the 5DII in another thread saying 7D was as good as

this thread having a go at the 7d

You must be a troll

So you think calling me a trol;l is goind to solve your problems? Insulting another forum member is nver the way to go! That is a mena thing to do to another person cbecaise it can hut hteir feelings!

 :o :o :o

Idont eve know what your weird faces mean. They dont cummunicate wto me. But I am actually trying to make a poitn: this is what the 5 D people are sayong all the time about the u7D. And it is just as ridiulous as you said it was. The 7D  is probably the best camera in canon's lineup in son many wayts that it is crazy that people think the 5d is so much better.

Ardea, the faces of puzzlment are probably because from the various typos in all your posts make it look like you were typing with your penis instead of your fingers.

17mm tse vs 14mm L ...doesn't Editting software correct wide angle lens curving, why do people pay for that to be corrected in camera outside of lens Editting time done in front of your laptop? Am I missing anything else it does better?

Thanks for the advice!

My former co-worker (someone like me who makes <S12k/year) who can't afford a pro's $1500 rate. She knows I am still learning. I am planning on teaming up with my sister who is experienced or our mutual experienced friend at some discounted rate we can work out. I would do it for basically free since I am not experienced, but...we're still ironing out the details.

EOS Bodies / 5d mkiii or 1dx? lens help?
« on: March 13, 2012, 05:04:31 PM »
I am a 7d owner who loves taking pics of hawks and sunsets on my weekends. I am 35yo and have been trying to self teach myself for about a year and a half. I possibly may want to do some portrait work in the future. I have a couple of L series lenses already (70-200 2.8 is ii usm, 35 1.4, 300f4 is usm). I just inherrited $10-20k I can use to play with after my mother's house (whom passed away from ovarian cancer) is selling. The rest, I am investing.

Here is my question: How many hobbyists out there think that the 1dx is worth the extra $3k. I know the life cycle is 400k shutter vs 150k shutter movement rated, and the extra weather sealing, etc...14fps would be nice for capturing the hawks fly.

I am planning on getting a 600 f4 is usm or maybe 600 f4 is ii usm and a tripod system to hold it.
I wish to be vacationing at the grand canyon this summer and perhaps other national parks soon. so, 14mm L series lens methinks would be wise? I might also consider be getting a 24-70 is ii usm and flash since I am doing my friend's wedding in Oct. 2012. Any comments on lenses would also be helpful.

Is it just me, or did those links prove the point further, less Mp will help with low light high ISO. Where all things being the in, same size sensor (aps-c vs aps-c, FF vs ff and cmos vs cmos) and processor vs identical processor....lower Mp allows more light per mp, better DR, less Mp for the processor to correct....however you want to say it, there's less noise in lower Mp in low light. Some of these tests were clearly testing in bright studio lights or in bright daylight.

really? you're thinking about putting a $100 lens on a $3500 camera? Spend extra $$ on your lenses and you'll be happy you did. The 35mm f1.4L USM is a great lens on my 7D. FYI.

I didn't know you had to sign an NDA to take a training course.

Man, how I hate that people can make forum posts like they were on twitter or facebook... ;D

I know I'm married to Canon, but I wonder if Nikon thinks I'm cute. :)

I think we should start sandbagging a levy here at canon rumors for when the 7D mk2 gets released at $2500+  to help stop the river of tears over the price :P

+1000!! Ha ha. If you can't afford it, don't be mad at Canon. Perhaps take up another hobby? No way it's sub $2000. $2,100 at launch is my guess.

My hunch specs are 10fps
Better weather sealing (probably as vague as that too)
15mp with improved ISO performance
30-45 AF points
Dual CF/SD card slots
Headphones jack for video
Probably have something really gimmicky like available in off-white or 120fps 480video

EOS Bodies / 1d mk iv or 5d mkiii?
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:36:11 PM »
Anyone seen these compared yet? I know .1d series have certain advantages, but the mk iii looks pretty Damn nice, so kinda wondering what might be a better upgrade from my 7d. I shoot mostly wildlife, purely for fun. I use a 70-200 2.8 is ii and a 300f4.
My other option is using that $ for a  older 600f4 is and tripod. Advice?
