EOS Bodies / Re: Comparing 6D with 5D3
« on: September 23, 2012, 08:18:45 AM »

the 6D doesn't have the side buttons or joystick either

Some of the side buttons were relocated to the right, but some are gone which is a bummer. The joystick is now embedded in the wheel, which is an implementation I prefer as it can free up space for more physical buttons. The removal of the side buttons is puzzling, however. It's like Canon designed the layout for an articulating screen but decided not to include it at the last minute.

5D3 owners are still left with the extremely expensive option of the WiFi grip which adds unnecessary bulk and doesn't double up as a battery grip. Canon should just discontinue that and just sell a WiFi dongle instead but I doubt that would happen.

I bet this will utilize the CFast 2.0 standard (up to 600MB/s) instead of the XQD 2.0 one (1000MB/s) because it would provide backward compatibility and is fast enough to keep up with the body's needs.

CFast is not backward compatible with CF.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CompactFlash :
"CFast cards are not physically or electrically compatible with CompactFlash cards."

Huh? What's the use then? Look like it's gonna turn into another format war with Nikon, Sony and Lexar behind XQD versus Canon, Phase One and Sandisk behind CFast:

One more thing to worry about when switching systems  :-\

Yes, 4 is synonym with 'death' in Japanese but that didn't stop Nikon from releasing the D4.

If this 4D has the WiFi and GPS built-in, would that mean it will have a less sealed body?

My 7D is made in Japan. Maybe this will affect the Rebels only.

3D would just sound weird and the jokes would never end (same goes for 2D).

A better solution is to resurrect the 1Ds moniker or use another letter like IDv (as in very high MPs). With that, we would go back to the old split line. Only this time we will have the 1Dc, 1Ds/v and 1Dx where they share the same body but serve different functions.

Wha? No FHD quality? C'mon Canon. This is 2012. You can use YouTube or Vimeo to host the high quality videoes if you fear for your bandwith. You know, just like Nikon.

In any case, the Deep Green video was shot in Yakushima, which a beautiful, beautiful place (but it rains there a lot!).

Also I do not understand why Canon can release a camera today that is USB2, non-UHS SD and has such an antiquated autofocus system.

Let us not distort the facts. Canon's literature says that UHS-I is supported.

For FF cameras of similar form factor, only the Nikon D800 has USB3. Sony A99, Nikon D600 and Canon's offerings all have USB2.

I guess there are no good excuses for the lackluster AF module.

Right now I'm just feeling irritated they didn't include GPS and wireless in the 5D MIII.  Given the $3500 price tag and the fact that they included it in a smaller, cheaper body suggests they could have to me.  I could get a lot of use out of both of those and I hate attaching bulky accessories to the camera.  Blah.

In its 6D first impression, DPReview wrote: "Construction is solid, if perhaps not offering the same bullet-proof feel as the 5D Mark III or 7D. In part this is because the 6D has a plastic top plate, which is necessary to allow the WiFi and GPS to work. The rest of the body uses a magnesium alloy shell, and Canon describes it as 'dust and drip-proof'.
