EOS Bodies / Re: Describe the 6D in one word...

piece of cr*p!

20D, 5D I ... AF .. all over!

For USD 999,- it would have been a lame "FF-Rebel". At USD 2100,- Canon is committing sppuku.
Double homerun for Nikon. D800. ANd even the weak D600 scores big time.

Canon ... go home!

Maybe it's time for you to switch. I fear for your health   :P

People want a revolutionary product for an amazing price. We live in a day and age where companies like Apple set consumer expectations very high and if a company like Canon isn't completely breaking the mold with every release, they need to turn on the PR machine or create a reality distortion field with their launches.

Maybe two years ago. Have you seen the reactions to the iPhone 5? Many are calling it 'boring' and 'underwhelming' technology-wise. It certainly has less bells and whistles than many of its competitors. Apple is among the last manufacturers to support LTE. Despite this, Apple is confident they can continue to sell well, and they are, because they have faith in their ecosystem. It's working in the short run but the question is would it continue to work in the long run? Apple and, to a lesser extent, Canon are relying on their established reputations. It takes time to unseat a marketing force. Time will only tell.

On a positive note, the presence of internal WiFi would probably compensate for the lack of an articulating screen. If Canon are smart, they would release a free software for PCs and mobile devices to enable full liveview control via a wireless connection.

It seems they have developed a new 20.2MP sensor. Part of the reason to do so might have to do with the Hybrid AF like the ones used for the 650D and EOS-M.

Hmm where has the forum topic for this post gone?

http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/09/adorama-jumps-the-gun-offers-eos-6d-preorder/

In any case, given the $2099 price, it's almost guaranteed we will get the 11pt AF Model.

After i saw 5Dmk3 deeping below $3000... i really wonder if the 5d3 will make it down to $2.5K maybe refurbished canon soon.

with the spec of the 6D i might save a bit more and get the 5d3 now that its around $2800 on ebay. other might say $800 will get you a nice L lens, Im talking about the body here.

I only saw the 5D3 dip below 3K once.  That was Beach Camera.  Does anyone know if they are legit and did any one actually score one?  I see it near 3K every once in a while but those look
grey market or from sketchy ebay sites.  I guess my great hope is hat the 6D pushes down the 5D3 by a few hundred dollars.  I'm in at 3k.  Right now 3.5k looks like a bridge too far.  It has to come down no?

As mentioned earlier, if you live in the US then you can still get it at $2750 on eBay from Adorama; an authorized Canon reseller. They seem to be clearing their stock for their new year.

EOS Bodies / Re: 7D mkII and New FF? - news From India
« on: September 16, 2012, 02:23:24 AM »
Hmm, so the above spec list is similar to the leaked 6D one, but differs in:

Slightly larger OVF (98% vs 97%)
Better AF (19pts vs 11pts)
Better SD support (2 slots vs 1 slot)

Worse processor (Digic 5 vs Digic 5+)
Worse native ISO (12500 vs 25600)

New information includes new battery and the kit being STM as opposed to the allegedly expensive 24-105 kit. I guess it's more in line with the previous rumors. I too hope this is the true spec list. Unfortunately, the source of the other 'leak' seems more credible, but there is always hope.

Honestly, I thought it was a joke or a scam when I first saw it, I kept on reading it and re-reading it again to find the catch, when I didn't I couldn't help but buy it. That's insane, $750 price drop in 6 months. All I can say is the D800 must be killing them, feel sorry for those who paid the full price just a few weeks ago. At this price, they can move a few thousands in a week.

Do you really think that price drop is because of what you may think is the volume of d800 sales?

It's possible.

On Amazon, the D800 Body is currently the 4th best-selling DSLR while 5D3 is sitting on the 8th (BO) and 13th (Kit) positions. The 5D2 BO & Kit are currently on the 9th and 26th positions, respectively (source).

On Amazon Japan, the D800 Body is currently the 54th best-selling DSLR. The D600 is number 9 already. Canon 5D offerings hold these positions:

5D Mark II BO: 44
5D Mark II Kit: 59
5D Mark III BO: 62

(source)

Who knows what's the situation is like elsewhere.

Well You can spend an extra $250 and get the real deal (5d mark III) with warranty from a canon authorized dealer.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-Digital-SLR-Camera-Body-22-3-Megapixels-USA-Warranty-/390468355036?forcev4exp=true#ht_11952wt_1163

Show me a reputable and authorized Canon dealer selling unopened USA warranty models below $3400.   If its too good to be true then there is something fishy.

What have you got to lose? It's a highly-rated seller ( Feedback Score of 115437) who is listed as a "Manufacturer's Authorized Reseller" on eBay and, in the unlikely case this turns out to be a scam, you are protected by PayPal.

If the iPhone 5 is just meant for upgraders then yes, you're right. otherwise, Apple is losing market share and they know it. Hence all the court cases.

The initial shipment of the phone sold out in mere hours. It's still is the best-selling phone and would likely be in the near future. Anything else is debatable. Apple are known to be overprotective of their technology. They might be losing potential market share (they actually gained some market share recently) but that's still hard to guage since the smartphone market is still expanding rather quickly.

Or maybe Adorama is clearing their stock before the Rosh Hashanah holiday (September 16).

Wow, that's an insane deal! They are selling like crazy with 2-3 bodies per minute (285 bodies sold so far)!

Consider this - brand loyalty combined with lenses/accessories already owned play a major role in future body purchase decisions for most consumers.  Canon has a much larger market share than Nikon, therefore a much larger pool of potential upgraders. As long as Canon continues to dominate in the true entry level segment (APS-C sensor xxxD models), they'll continue to outcompete Nikon across the board.

Even at the xxxD level Nikon is delivering a more attractive option.

Is a newbie going to go for the camera with the 24MP sensor or the 18MP sensor?

The other way to interpret your comments is that because Canon already has a large installed user base, they are delivering that user base lesser camera because people will keep buying Canon because of old gear.

That's what happens when you achieve enough market penetration. Case in point: the iPhone 5. It delivers less from a technological standpoint than many of its competitors but will still sell loads more even if enthusiasts call it boring and uninspiring. The differentiation factor is the ecosystem.

These companies are just doing what their shareholders desire the most: deliver the lowest-cost product at the greatest price in order to maximize the shareholder's equity. Challengers would of course put more bells and whistles in an attempt to lure buyers in. The leaders would figure out what's the least amount of options they can get away with while still convincing buyers of the viability of their systems. That does not mean that every now and then the market won't be demanding something revolutionary but that doesn't happen often. If the leaders miscalculate, they risk losing up their edge to one of the challengers who will then inherit some of the leader's characteristics with time. How long does it take to unseat a leader is anyone's guess.
