Mirror hangs on 5d mkii with 44m-4.  Just my two cents, it really doesn't matter if it hangs, just put a rubber band around the lens mount and screw it onto the adapter.  I used a thin rubber band and it gives it about a finger nails width of room.  I lose infinity focus at f/2 but if I'm going to be shooting close to infinity, I'm going to be using my 50 1.8, the helios is all about the bokeh.  This also lets you focus just a bit closer for even more bokeh.

Here are some photos I've taken with mine and a couple of tips, while it is super sharp in the center, anything off dead center will be so so.  I don't know if the 7 is multicoated but either way, these lenses like to flare.

Went to a bar last night where they had some fiddlers playing in the middle of nowhere Montana, I think they turned out really well.  All shot on a Canon 5d Mkii with a Sigma 105mm F/2.8 EX DG Macro.

Canon 5d mkii, Tamron 150-600mm all at 600

First try with my new monopod, still trying to get used to it.

Having owned the 150-500 OS I swore I'd never buy a budget telephoto zoom again. And lets face it even if this Sigma costs 2K its still a budget telephoto zoom in terms of the focal lenght and features you are getting for your money. I will watch this one closely as I expect the image quality of this lens will be very acceptable. I'd like to see how it compares to the 120-300 S+2x both at 600mm and both at F8.
I currently use the Sigma 300+2x which is alright at F8. I would prefer Sigma to update that lens and I hope they do or else a 400 F4 OS would be very sweet.

Here is the tamron 150-600 vs the sigma 120-300.   Tamron is sharper in the center but the sigma is better in the corners.  http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=929&Camera=453&Sample=0&FLI=5&API=2&LensComp=844&CameraComp=453&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=7&APIComp=4

I really hope they are right about the price because if it is anywhere near what the Tamron costs, I will be kicking myself for getting the Tamron.

Underwater / Canon S100 underwater questions
« on: July 25, 2014, 07:45:20 PM »
Just ordered an underwater case for my Canon s100, it's a cheap Ebay case and I know, I know, I probably should have ordered some $400 case for a camera that itself is only worth $100.  I really just want to experiment with underwater photography and thought that this would be a good way to start.  I was thinking about lighting with a cheap underwater flashlight because an underwater flash would be to expensive, have any recommendations for flashlights.  Also what filters might I need, I believe the case takes 67mm.

Shot during sunset on a Canon 5d mkii and 200mm f/2.8 ii in front of my house.  Spent 20 minutes creeping up to this guy, and when I finally got close enough he started flying away.  Was impressed that I was able to get an in focus shot in harsh lighting with the 5d.

Canon 5d mkii, 200mm f2.8 ii

Shot at 1/650th of a second, this shot had a lot more motion blur on the bird then I wanted, though it is only really visible on the full res version

I live in Montana and yesterday went in to a local camera store to check if they had the Tamron 150-600mm.  Saw the box for the 16-35mm f/4 and asked if I could see it.  Got a hands on feel of it, it had a much stiffer zoom ring than on my 17-40mm, but my lens is kind of old.  Can't believe in a small town I could have bought the lens before people could get it from B&H!  I'm going to go check how much 17-40s are going on ebay now...
