EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: So how are your 5DMKIII high-ISO shots?
« on: March 26, 2012, 10:06:39 AM »
Yeah, thanks Okcamera, 12800 looks nice, 25600 is okay as well, I wonder how do they look after some NR reduction in LR or stuff, gotta try that.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / So how are your 5DMKIII high-ISO shots?
« on: March 26, 2012, 09:48:01 AM »
Hello happy mkIII owners, I was wondering how does the camera holds up when you're bumping the ISOs higher than 3200.
Reviews are quite subjective in this matter, I really want to hear your opinion. Examples are welcome, but phrases like "12.800 is still nice, 25.600 stinks" are welcome as well.

Lenses / Re: Canon 70-200 F4 IS or F2.8 (non IS)?
« on: March 26, 2012, 06:14:16 AM »
So really, not a single word in defence of the f/4? It's twice as light and much easier to carry around, and it also has IS - is the f/2.8 non-stabilised THAT much better?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Does f/4 work for 5DmkIII in low light?
« on: March 23, 2012, 01:04:55 PM »
Hello happy MK III owners, I'll be joining you soon among other happy folk :) I currently have the 24-105L, and I was thinking of buying 70-200 f/4 or f/2.8. However with ISO improvements in the latest 5D, I was windering if it's possible to get away with using f/4 and still getting workable images? Not taking bokeh and DoF into account?
Thank you in advance for your replies!

I'd recommend Benro A0961TB00 - here's the one on eBay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PRE-SELL-BENRO-A0691TB00-Travel-Angel-Series-Aluminium-Tripod-set-Ball-Head-/230703323654?pt=US_Tripods&hash=item35b6fd5a06

It is much more sturdy than it is described, and I find it very good.

How much weight/gear are you putting on the 0-series and B00 ball-head?

It was able to handle my t2i with my friend's 70-200 2.8 L IS II USM. It supports up to 6kg of weight, and I wonder how is that even achievable, since the 5dmkIII weighs a little less than 1kg, and for example said 70-200 weighs 1.5kg. If you're in for some serious supertele action with extenders and whatnot, you might be better off with more advanced tripods, but for general purposes I find this tripod extremely comfortable, especially factoring in its small size and weight.

Thank you for your shots. ISO 25600 with NR PP is usable - and that's the biggest win for MKIII in my book.

Canon General / Re: Should I move up to FF or get more lens
« on: March 13, 2012, 12:38:33 PM »
I say you'd better sell your EF-S glory and go for 5D mkIII kit. 24-105mm is a fantastic lens and will complement your primes for low-light photography. I'm in the similar situation, I've sold my 17-70 Sigma and bought 24-105mm a couple of months ago to soften the financial blow 5dmkIII will strike.

Lenses / Re: Is 50mm Sigma that good?
« on: March 11, 2012, 05:16:13 PM »
Very good job Alipaul! That actually brought some faith in this Sigma back, I think I'll have to wait and try micro adjusting the focus when I get the 5dmkIII.

Also, very good advice about the shutter speed, I'm too used to shooting with IS on my 24-105L, I'll have to keep that in mind.

I was thinking about selling this lens and getting a Canon f/1.4 one, but I think I'll have to look into my issues deeper. Thank you.

I'm only starting to work with fixed lenses, but it seems I can't get them to work properly.

T2i, 1/60, f/1.8, ISO 320

The focus was supposed to be on the centre of the nose, yet the "portrait" still got blurry. Is this an autofocus issue of my specific lens, or that's just the way it is supposed to be?
Thank you.

Lenses / Re: "Walkaround" prime for FF?
« on: March 11, 2012, 07:00:38 AM »
Thank you everyone for your replies. Since I asked this question I got 2 smites for no apparent reason - I have no idea how does this system work.

As for 50mm, I currently do have the Sigma lens, and its autofocus bothers me to no end. Thank you for advising me to work with my EXIF data, I will devote some time to this specific task. But in the end I'll be interested to see that rumored 40mm pancake, thanks for bringing that up.

Lenses / "Walkaround" prime for FF?
« on: March 10, 2012, 03:19:07 PM »
I'm upgrading to the 5dmkIII soon, and I have never used any FF cameras before. I already have the 24-105mm for general walkaround stuff, but I sure do need some prime for more creative shots with shallower DoF and a nice bokeh, not to mention low light situations. Which fixed lens would you recommend for walkaround purposes? I have heard that 50mm lenses fill that niche, but I'm interested in the opinion of CR's community.

Thank you!

Ramon, I'm in the situation that is like your friend's. I am still planning to go 5d mkiii - it's the camera I will use for many years in the future, it's one hell of a camera (well, according to early reviews). The problem I face is that I'll have to adapt realizing that I will be carrying 4k$ worth of equipment around. I think that's the only trouble really. If he can afford it and feels comfortable carrying such expensive equipment around, he should definitely get it.

Lenses / Re: Lens suggestion - Alternatives to 24-105
« on: March 04, 2012, 08:38:05 AM »
Actually there is a Tammy, more specifically the 24-135mm. It's quite blurry and the build quality is subpar compared to the good old 24-105mm. I think the 24-105mm is one of the best lenses ever produced by Canon, all factors considered.

EOS Bodies / Re: Is 5dmkiii a good investment in the long run?
« on: March 02, 2012, 03:33:55 PM »
Thank you for your replies. As bvukich correctly mentioned, by "investment" I meant an ability to skip getting f/2.8 lenses and getting away with f/4.0. I think I'll hold for a month and see what the final price will be once the market settles down a bit.
