Some sort of diaphragm shutter could prevent dust from entering the camera during lens changing.

I keep wondering why they do not make a TC with zero power. That does not change magnification or degrade lens quality. Then we could leave the 'plain glass' on the camera and change lenses without fear of dust on sensor. We could just blow away, wipe away the dust from the plain glass.

Nice idea ya? I wish I could manufacture this and sell! lol

get a sigma, they have a dust screen in front of the mirror.

I modified my old 350D to full spectrum. Still testing it and need something to replace the IR-Filter to get infinity focus back.

The 350D (and 30D and one other) has a focus screw in the light box that can be adjusted with a 1.3mm (0.5 inch) allen wrench. I replaced my IR cut with a thinner piece of UV filter cut to size and then adjusted focus.

It still has a little front focus at f/1.8, but at f/5.6 and up it's bang on. Good enough for my uses! Since IR photography works BEST midday in bright sunlight I don't see many times where I'll be shooting below f/8, and when I will (i.e. macro or really nice DOF shots) I'll just focus bracket. I could have adjusted the focus more (and I might) but my allen wrench is bent quite a bit, I don't want to bend it any more for fear of breaking it!

you got me thinking!
this would be really hard to make. 85mm and f1 means a HUGE front element so I don't think it will fit under the flash bulb when it is a Pancake
I think it would have to look like the end of one of the big white,but then there comes the mount! I think it will look really odd/funny!
back to thinking: why does lenses have to be round? every not rotating element could have its top/bottom and side parts cut of to match the sensors 3:2 format or not?
wouldn't that make a 400mm 2,8 significant lighter?
 it would look odd, but I could life with that.

no I don't.
for me most of the time it is attached ( it looks more elegant that way, but for me that doesn't really matter ) to get it out of the way I turn it to the top slightly towards the handgrip and use it as a handle to carry lens and camera around.

Yes I have done it myself. The only not that easy step was removing the soldered on metal shielding above the sensor assembly.
When I was about to get the main circuit board  out I noticed that there was only ONE screw loosely in its place.
The other 3 were gone and I was only able of finding 1 of the missing ones, stuck to some tape.
So 2 screws missing inside the Body.
Scared me a bit because my 7D just luckily got its battery status back working after 2 fallen screws messed it up.
The tech that found them showed it to me and told me that that is really dangerous to kill the board by shorting it when the screws roll around in the body. And there is a lot of uncovered circuit boards in the 350D and even more in the 7D.

Live view is a must have I think or else focus is REALLY hit and miss !
A wideangle closed down to say f10 is a fixfocus and works reasonable.

When I was getting rid of some old monitors I found a Tokina 135mm f/2,8 Tele-Auto ( m42 )
very well built all metal construction ( can take a picture of it when wanted ),
super nice focus ring and for IQ and Bokeh take a look yourself.
The first picture is from an 70-200 f/2,8L IS II
100% crop at 2,8

most of the time I use it as AF-Stop-Button.  So I am able to stop af whenever I like and just shot MF or hold the position like nero does.

Why not try the EF 300mm f/4L IS, as it is the equivalent of 480mm on a 1.6x crop body?

No, a theoretical EF-S 400mm lens on a 1.6x crop body would be the equivalent of 400mm.  Note: EF-S lenses, which is what the OP requested, can only be mounted on a 1.6x crop body, so there is no crop factor.

as far as I know all EF-S Focal Length are measured in FF-equivalent so an 17-55 EF-S has the same Field of view as a 17-40 EF at 17mm mounted on a crop body.

And on crop a 10mm has the same FOV as 16mm on FF.

*Higher viewfinder magnification combined with larger "apparent field of view" via the finder...for all Canon bodies (except maybe the Rebel line).  An image through the viewfinder, with a 50mm lens mounted, focused at or near infinity, should show objects exactly the same size as the naked eye sees them...AND NOT SMALLER than the eye sees them.

new type of IS that uses the 1DX 3D tracking AF to compensate for an objects motion an not camera motion.
So the IS would be able to help out on moving objects.
I think that is just software ? or I am wrong ? ( lens-camera communication might be a problem ? )
