EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Upgrade from 10d to 60d or 7d
« on: August 27, 2012, 02:17:59 PM »
for the high-ISO  its not that´s nearly the same.
main differences are:
MUTCH better AF (60D is  like all the rebels 40,50D and 5D/mkII  just some points with no real tracking ability)
(9 points for 60D against 19 in a nice spread for 7D)
FPS if you need it you will love it! 5,3 against 8 ( 60D feels not realy fast )
Better build quality  all plastic against Metal except of flash, battery- and card-doors the 7D feel much more solid not that brick like solid of a 1D but  serious  more than the plastiky feeling 60D
100 % viewfinder and much nicer eye-cover ( 1D eye-cover)
AF micro adjustments ( how could I forget this is sooooo needed with fast lenses)

drawbacks:
no Vari-Angle LCD   and SD cards  ( in that speedrange  SD cards are cheaper ... )
nicer side loaded BG for 60D

PS there is no WFT for 60D if that  is from any  importance for you.

have  you tried if its just the screen?
can you change settings when its in say p-mode?

To find out you could get it to green-mode, go to menu turn off the Beep, then turn to p-mode, ant then hit menu, set, turn dial press set.  And when it beeps I think you could install it blind.

It's definitely not the screen, it works fine in both the auto modes, and if I take a picture in P mode, AV or whatever the picture can be viewed if I go back to either of the two auto modes.

There must be something inside the firmware that has gone aray I would assume as EOS says busy, I was shooting a continuous burst when it packed in, in raw.

It's still useable as an auto camera, but that's not how I shoot, and without display I can't set up my customs..

Very disappointed...

Yes its not the screen hardware. But in the customs is there just the  output not working or does it go deeper and  the camera is realy doing nothing. Because if its just the output then you would be able to reinstall the firmware by doing it blind.

also I can  list you the exact order of button presses necessary for the update. Should I ?

try to deactivate  silent mode in the live view menu. That is what is needed in the 7D.
I think it hast something to do with electronic first curtain.

Pictures where taken at F10 outside at night with the back round  5 meters away. Lighting was with one 580EX  from each side and manual flash-power.  Camera was 1Ds3 16-35 at 35mm 1/200s

Technical Support / Re: Memory card compatibility

but not all of them can format that big cards. The 350D for example will not format a 32gb Card right and you end up with a card that not a newer camera nor windows can bring back from 8 to 32 gb.
Needed some third party to get it right.

You won´t regret it.
I had a 40D a between my 350D and 7D and it was realy a nice camera.

but will it be able to process RAW-files from other Cameras ?  ...thinking of 1ds3 Raws...

Do you want to upload files from other cameras to 7d with firmware 2.0?

I want to take a card with 1ds files on it and process them in the 7d, so I can copy the edited jpgs to an sd card to give them to someone.

Might make sense.

No it doesn't.  Not even a little bit.

Yes it does.

Who are you defending...  @Timothy_Bruce for his comment (was he even being serious?) or yourself for capitulating that it "might make sense"?  Ok, either of you explain how it makes sense to want to "process 1Ds3 files on a 7D in order to copy the edited jpgs to an SD card".

For me personally, I don't have any desire to do any post-production work on the 3 inch LCD of my 7D but hey it's an option if you find the need for it.   But let's say you want to do that and then further want to transfer files from another body for editing and then transfer to an SD card...

Step 1:  remove CF card from 7D
Step 2:  remove CF card from 1Ds3
Step 3:  insert CF card with 1Ds3 files into 7D
Step 4:  edit files on tiny 3 inch screeen... yay!
Step 5:  transfer files to SD card... oops where is that pesky SD card slot on the 7D... #fail
Step 6:  remove CF card from 7D
Step 7:  insert CF card into a computer and transfer edited jpgs
Step 8:  remove CF card from computer
Step 9:  insert SD card into computer and transfer files
Step 10: remove SD card and give to someone
Step 11:  that person transfers files to computer from SD card then gives back SD card

Or how about this alternative

Step 1:  transfer 1Ds3 files to computer
Step 2:  process and edit 1Ds3 files on computer
Step 3:  transfer processed files to a USB stick, CD, or other low-cost transfer such as email or web-site... #FTW

Step 1:  remove CF card from 7D
Step 2:  remove CF card from 1Ds3
Step 3:  insert CF card with 1Ds3 files into 7D
Step 4:  edit files on tiny 3 inch screeen... yay!
"Step 5:  transfer files to SD card... oops where is that pesky SD card slot on the 7D... #fail"
Step 5:  remove CF card from 7D
Step 6:  insert CF card into 1Ds3  copy jpeg-files to SD card
Step 7:  hand inexpensive  SD card to someone

so I can adjust  WB  and then give the pictures to someone  without laptop or need to give away my  big  CF cards. The 4 gb SD cards can I buy for under 5€.

But nevermind :D it doesn`t work :D
