Canon EF Prime Lenses / Re: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM

I walk the dog, see a flower next to the path, take my camera with the mounted 100L into my hands and I'm sinking  into another world of fantastic colours and forms. I like this lens.

Nice pic, perhaps you could post it in the appropriate gallery, this is not for the 100L !

Thanks for the hint. I'll try to post it in the appropriate place.

Lenses / Re: How about a new 28-135mm?
« on: April 29, 2013, 08:52:13 PM »
I used the 28-135 before I purchased a 5D3 with a 24-105. I did some test shots with both lenses and was surprised how similiar they were. Except at the wide end, where the 28-135 was clearly weaker. But otherwise I liked it very much in terms of sharpness and colour. But of course, the build quality is not comparable-and I appreciate very much the possibility to go out taking pictures when the weather gets rough. But I admit I miss the extra reach of the 28-135 at the long end..So, I would be interested in an upgrade.

Thanks for all the beautiful pictures!
I have to contribute to this topic, too. Here are two shots of my Dog Truffaut: He's the one who has to suffer the most since the day  I have a 5dIII... Okay, he gets a goodie after every successful shot, but I'm really grateful for his endless patience! He was my guinea pig to get to know the 5D3's AF-System. My daughters are far less cooperative..

Lenses / Re: Best tele prime for full frame?

I also own the 100 2.0, but I'm not so happy with it. My expectations were high  because it got very good reviews. After a few month I realized that I shoot very rarely with it. The results were disappointing. Then I tried to find out why and made a few comparing shots with the 100 2.0 and the 24-105L.  The 24-105 was sharper (not only in the corners), had less CA, richer colours and more contrast. I want to shoot the 100 wide open and there it's pretty soft. I'm saving now for a 135L...

Lenses / Re: How's the 70-300L?
« on: March 15, 2013, 06:53:09 PM »
I had the non-L 70-300 and switched to the L-version. In my opinion, the non-L-version is overrated. Of course I can only judge it by the copy I've had and it was pretty soft and had low contrast, not only above 200mm. I am very happy with the 70-300L : It's  sharp, has nice colours and contrast, great AF and IS. It's IQ is much better than my 24-105L.  And I like the way it looks and feels, too. It's not exactly a lightweight, that's the big advantage of the non-L version beside the price. But I bought mine here in switzerland second hand, as good as new for about 1000$. It's worth the money.
