Picked mine up today. She's a beauty. Currently waiting for the battery to recharge so I can tinker more.

I pre-ordered mine from The Camera Store in Calgary. I'll pop by on my way back from work tomorrow afternoon and report back. I REALLY hope I'm close enough in the queue to get mine in the first shipment.

Lenses / Re: Ultra Wide Angle with Full Frame

I've been shooting full frame with the 17-40 for about three years now and I really like it. The only reason not to get it, imho, is if you need a 2.8 lens. I shoot landscapes and nature so I almost never need a 2.8 lens, and the 17-40 has served me quite well and I have no complaints. Plus, the price is right.

I have to agree. The forums really seem to have been curb stomped under the heavy tread of the stupid fairy with the whole "5d3 sucks!" hysteria. Fanboys are unfortunately something we can never get rid of from the internet.

I'm glad it's gone.

The mkII is still a hell of a camera. Even though it's not below $2000, it's still a bargain.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: DPP 3.11.10 and DLO Module
« on: March 18, 2012, 05:02:34 AM »
I'm really torn between Lightroom 3 and DPP. My biggest problem is that in Lightroom my images seem to have off colours and bad gradients that look entirely different from what I see in DPP, although I suspect this is more of a colour profile problem than a problem with Lightroom itself. After all, Lightroom is pretty popular.

Does DPP provide lossless RAW editing?

EOS Bodies / Re: L lens for 5d MK III

It really depends on what you're shooting. Portraits require different lenses from landscapes from sports to wildlife.

I generally can't afford the weight of lots of lenses so I have my lens collection capped at three, but I can speak very highly of the 24-105 and the 17-40. Not sure what my third lens is going to be.... currently it's a toss up between the Sigma 85 1.4 and the Canon 100mm Macro 2.8 L.

As the proud owner of a 24-105L I highly recommend it. It sounds like your needs are better satisfied by a fullframe body.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 7D... not Mk 2, Not anything, Just the 7D

Kids today. *humph!* Back in my day I started out with a 6mp 10D, and that's the way we liked it. We loved it. Bleah! I say! Bleah!

Nah, just kidding. Welcome to the forums... I'm a long time lurker too. I don't have a 7D, but I've seen some pretty incredible stuff come out of that camera. Congrats on the purchase. I'm glad that it's every bit of camera you hoped it would be.

I miss those days when I waited for the next model to be released, so that I could then go online and read the reviews, such as dpreview and dxoMark, and decide on which to buy. . . . . . . but nooooooo I had to join this forum and waste my days reading psycho bable and learning of fire and brimstone, oceans boiling dogs and cats living together . . . .  mass hysteria ::)

 :D

This man speaks the truth.

Doesn't matter to me, as I always change ISO manually. The closest I get to auto is using AV and sometimes TV.

Lenses / Re: Lens Issue: 10-22 vs 16-35 vs 17-40
« on: March 15, 2012, 11:50:14 PM »
I highly recommend the 17-40 f/4 L. I shoot landscapes primarily, so I don't need the 2.8. You also can't beat the price. It's a steal in comparison to the 16-35.

The 22mp is fine by me. It's actually more than I know what to do with coming from the 12mp 5D1. Ideally, I wanted the 1DX, but it's too expensive and I don't need the high framerate. The 5D3 suits my needs just fine. I really had thought we'd grown out of the mega pixel wars, but sadly it seems I was mistaken given the hysteria surrounding the 5D3's "mere" 22mp to the D800's 36mp.

8) 8) 8) This is a feature of the 5diii I'm keen to experiment with :)

Me too. I have a funny relationship with HDR... I like it, but it doesn't seem to like me very much. The funny thing is that every time I do a series of test shots (say, of my front yard) the HDR works beautifully. Whenever I try to do a serious HDR shot it always turns out terrible. I think photomatix is trolling me.
