EOS Bodies / Re: More new 5D MK III sample pics from Bert...

Those sure are some traaashy pictures.  :-X

Sharpness, wb, where have you gone?

22mpix.

I like the camera, and I'll probably buy it, it's just that I don't need it right now, wait until 5dII gets it's number of shots I guess.

I wouldn't have like it any more or less if it had 36 mpix, but I think that anyone who is into studio shoots will be tempted by the Nikon. Especially if they don't have a FF camera.

I'll stick with 5dII for at least a year or two. Also, I'd rather buy 85mm 1,2 then upgrade to the 5dIII.

Wedding/event photographers are gonna love the 5dIII, it'll probably become one an urban legend.

EOS Bodies / Re: High ISO comparo: 5DIII vs. D800
« on: March 03, 2012, 04:43:49 AM »
Well, as expected on 100% comparison 5dIII blows D800 out of the water. It's a t least 1 stop better, but we must not forget that scaled down images just might look pretty much the same, as the D800 has so much detail captured.

Wondering how do they compare scaled down???

What I'm afraid will happen to the d800 is that many wedding photographers won't need it as it is too slow and the files are too big, and many are already shooting Cannon, which has better lenses up it's line (don't argue). Fashion community might embrace it.

Not interested in this at all. It is an improvement, but not something that would benefit me in daily work so... I feel no temptation to switch.

+1  Awesomeness!

It's not 100% percent on a 5dII...

Not in all pictures, I haven't said that. In some situations, it just happens to be all the situations that would give you good shots. .

sorry that is complete nonsense... if that would be true it would be all over the internet and nobody would buy that camera.

Either that, or users are thinking it's fine to take multiple exposures. AS far as I'm concerned, 7D is lowest thing in Canon's line up that meters correctly.

Quality standard needs to be set in place. So, if most of the users take bad pictures and don't notice anything wrong, that's fine, it's not a professional model, but the 5DIII is a semi-pro grade camera, and it should improve it's metering from the 5dII.

How about "AF point-linked spot metering" ??
I really hope they don't cripple this again!!
That's something I ask too; imperative !

THAT'S WAHT I'M TALKING ABOUT, yet many look at every Canon as if it were a Holy Grail.

If they are charging that much, that better be the best metering system possible/ever seen.

I just played with 600d and metering sucks BIG TIME. It misses up to 1.5 stops no matter which settings you use. That's shameful.

you want us honestly to believe the 600D is mettering 1.5 stops off on all pictures?
please tell us more bulls h i t.

my advice.... take a good look in the manual or let someone who knows what he is doing check the 600D.

Not in all pictures, I haven't said that. In some situations, it just happens to be all the situations that would give you good shots. So, I have to turn on the Live view, set the exposure according to the histogram, then go back to the viewfinder and shoot.

Both spot and partial are tragic on that thing.

So, if they plan on selling any... better get:

WIRELESS FILE TRANSFER that works with LR3+ and Capture One (optional is fine)

REALLY FAST FLASH SYNC, and I mean 1/500+

AUTOFOCUS ON F8 lenses

GOOD SUBJECT TRACKING AUTOFOCUS

ACCURATE METERING WITH PLENTY OF OPTIONS, AND I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH

BIG VIEWFINDER

BETTER WEATHER SEALING

BIGGER HISTOGRAM (sometimes I just want to look at the histogram, not the image itself)

SCREEN RESOLUTION THAT MATCHES THE SCALE OF THE FILE (NO MORE MENUS UP AND DOWN)

P.S. They really should have dumped that silly SD card slot.

Lenses / Re: What's your favorite Canon lens and why?

70-200 is II 2.8L - Absolutely!

I'd like to own a 85mm 1.2 L, but at that price, it ain't happening any time soon. :D

In 2 years, the 1Ds III will STILL be an amazing camera.  The other options out there don't change the fact that it has a great AF, great IQ, and all around great feeling.

It's worth every penny -- especially as cameras with video capabilities start to dominate the market.  If you don't need that, buy 2 of them!  :P

They also don't change the fact that it's 7000 euros. And if I'm being paid 100 euros a shoot, how many years would it take for me to save enough money for one?

Used in the UK they are now about 2000 euros - about the same prince as a new 5DII, and you get a better camera if high iso is not an issue

If you'd be nice enough to link me towards classified adds, or ebay etc. where there are used 1ds's at that price, I'd be thankfull. 1ds mk II goes for 2000 here.

So what happened here is that Canon supposedly hasn't yet finished developing a true successor to the 5d MKII, so they decide to rename and slash price of their current top-of-the line camera, as the 1dx is coming anyway?

I'll tell you, if this is the way you look at things, and I sure am looking at things that way, the 5dIII could be the camera I always wanted. A 1d body for the price and size of a 5d.

I never could afford a 1dsIII and it is the camera I truly desired to own, now at half price for a brand new body, it'll make me quite happy ;D.

28
Since I had unreasonable requirements and standards NO it wont be good enough
this is what i want!

100MP
60 FPS
Clean ISOs from 25-1million
128 AF points all cross type, with EYE focus AF Selection
4k video at 120fps - raw
built in USB3, wifi, bluetooth, GPS, Compass, ethernet, thunderbolt, hdmi
swivel 4" OLED screen at full HD res
Full weather sealing to 10 meters underwater
and ofcourse a single SD card slot :P

Im willing to pay up to $1500 for this :)

That isn't far from the truth if you ad a 0 to those 1500$ making it 15000. Phase ONE is the word, but it is slooow

29
It does not meet my needs at all.

I'm a fashion photographer looking to upgrade, and at this price, 22mp is just waaay to low, especially as there is no mention of the sync speed.

At that price, switching to Nikon, is also a viable alternative.

But if I had that kind of money to spend on a body only I'd go for a Hasselblad or PhaseOne, which both have great upgradable modular systems.

I'll just stick with the 5dII. 8)

HOW ABOUT A 4K VIDEO to justify the price, given how popular the 5dII was among filmmakers.

I think it's happening.  8)
