Lenses / Re: How many lenses could you mount on a 5DMkIII?
« on: October 28, 2010, 09:24:51 PM »
Pretty much any lens that came out during the last year or so and then some. I don't think that there will be a shortage of good lenses for a 25MP FF.

Well, even I can predict the outcome of comparison of a Zeiss 3.5/18 and a Canon 16-35/2.8 at f22  ::) This guy at least tried a more controlled comparision betw. the 85 lenses.

That said, my Zeiss 2/35 should arrive in a few days :)

Here's what I want.

About 8...10 MP. Why? Because large sensels produce larger signals and this will improve the signal to noise ratio, hence allow higher ISOs, a'la the D3s *except* that Canon handles black better than Nikon and also doesn't foul up my images with noise reduction I can't turn off. Also, because an image of this size transfers faster, takes up less space both in the camera and on disk, processes faster, loads faster, saves faster, and also means the camera can shoot faster, and ALSO means that the available lenses will do an excellent job because the size of the individual pixels pushes diffraction further up the f-stops and doesn't require such tight focus to be pixel-accurate, either.

Well, you could buy a used 1Ds -- 11MP FF, cheaper than a 5DII. Max. ISO of 1250 tho. Sometimes less isn't more ;)

The *only* reason I don't own a 5DmkII is because of the 21 MP. That's ridiculous. My 50D, at 15 MP, is already making images that are far too large. My 40D was better; but the 50D's ability to shoot at ISO 12800 has me hooked.

Set a 5DII to sRAW2 -- volia, 10.8MP... Keep in mind tho that a single photosite of the 21MP sensor is bigger than a single photosite of the 50D or even 40D sensors...

"Remember the 7d would be 45mp ish if it were full frame." Is that for real? I ask because I have no idea, but that could well make sense, meaning the MkIV at 45PM and the 5D MkIII at 28MP.

Yes: 18MP / (22.3 x 14.9 mm) * (36.0 x 24.0 mm) = 46.8MP

Because all FF lenses perform better on crop bodies which take advantage of the sweet spot

Only if the lens offers good resolution to begin w/ -- even a 10MP 40D has a higher pixel density than any FF camera today. Hence the recent upgrades to MkII lenses, catering to existing APC-C/H densities and preparing for future MP increases on FF...

Reasonable in what way?  Fair?

Well executed and fair, yep.

Here's a reasonable review of the Sigma 50/1.4.

However on a Crop it is a very useful 13mm fisheye to 24mm wide angle, and that is great to have in one lens.

Actually 16mm (for 180deg diagonal aka Full Frame Fisheye) to 24/20mm on APS-C/H sensors. See this. Perfect for me since I got FF and APS-C bodies.

You can use the ST-E2 on a 7D.

Place the 60D on top of the Rebel line and the 7D on top of the XXD series to get the real picture -- the last three bodies released all went up in price considerably (compared to their predecessors.)

Doesn't mean that it's 100% the same, sensors may have been tweaked. Also, the software that drives the system is in the 4th or 5th generation, Canon may finally have implemented a PID controller making the AF micro adjustment obsolete.

Ah yes, the same list that has the Rebel XSi in place 4... Sorry, but w/o knowing what the criteria for the list positioning are it's totally worthless. Esp. for cameras that are not available.

For a zoom I usually take measurements across the range and eyeball what MFA would benefit (if necessary. Using LensAlign Pro as well.) Putting more weight on the long end makes sense for short to medium distance shooting since the DOF will be thinner.
