Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Tamron 150-600mm availability
« on: July 23, 2014, 11:46:42 AM »
For the folks who actually have this lens, how long did it take from your pre-order or reservation to actually getting it? Want it for some sports shooting in a month's time but its out of stock everywhere (surprise surprise) or available from japan for a ~20% markup (ebay).
I ordered from B&H May 24 and received another email today saying it's still not in stock.

Canon General / Re: New Speedlite Coming? [CR2]

It would be nice if Canon finally implemented touch controls and a menu that didn't necessitate reading the manual every time I use the flash (and I have 2 430EXII's.)

12 images, using 430EXII in softbox plus reflector for lighting.  6D, EF100 f/2.8L lens.

Not my favorite technique as I don't have the tools (proper focus rails), software (I use PS, Helicon and others made me crazy), or patience, but here's one of my more successful attempts that was necessary - it's a Maypop flower - really odd to me, but apparently an extremely common flower/weed 180mm macro @f/8, 1/800s, ISO 800:

Awesome!  The flower explodes out of the image.

Here is a friendly fellow at a sewage treatment pond about 150 miles from my home. We have seen him eat a Blue-winged Teal in one big snap.
He doesn't look like an alligator I would mess with!  Cool shot.

Various from the Everglades.
Great photos and I really like that overhead shot - is that from one of the observation towers?  I need to get down to the Glades one of these days - I'm just having a hard time convincing the wife (not the outdoor type) that it will be a fun trip.
Yes, it's from the observation tower stop on the Shark Valley tram.  I love the Everglades.  If you do go, drive all the way to the Flamingo Visitor Center area.  Eco Pond just past there is loaded with feeding birds at 7 a.m. (Egrets, herons, Roseate Spoonbills, etc.)

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Deal: Canon Pixma Pro-100 $34 at Adorama
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:03:12 PM »
Bought this from adorama on monday. Good news- came today. Bad news - canon box not sent. Everything was dumped in a large brown box. No original canon box. Therefore no UPC. No rebate for this one. Anyone else run into this? Or am i the random one who gets screwed? Everything seemed to be there but i am more than a little concerned it didnt get damaged in shipping. This thing is a beast.
I got mine in the Canon box from Adorama today.
Me too.

I place an order with B&H on May 24 and have gotten two emails saying it's back ordered.

You mean the one that starts with the 5th letter of the alphabet followed by a word that rhymes with day?  ::)
I use them too, begrudgingly.  The 10% fee and dealing with PaynotyourPal can be a real pain, but it's where I have gotten the best prices for my stuff.  Good photos are they key to selling there, and don't fall for the "What's the shutter count" scam, and ALWAYS communicate through their messaging system.  NEVER use email or any other form of communication as they scammers exploit it like crazy. Also, always check your MyeBay page and PayPal to make sure you have received payment before shipping.  Some of the scammers send you fake "Paid, Ship Now" emails (hence the tip on not using email or sharing your email address".  Also, International shipments can take weeks to clear customs and PayPal will hold your $$$ until the person signs for it, at least for people with under 100 feedback or recent electronics sales.  My $$$ was held for 6 weeks for a shipment to Isreal, but I finally got paid when the buyer signed for it.  Also, always obscure the serial # in photos.  I'm sure there are other tips to avoid scams, but those are a few of the ones that they've to do to me.

Craiglist is great for some stuff (not electronics!), but always meet in a very public place to avoid being robbed.
What is the "What's the shutter count" scam?

EOS-M / Re: Which batteries do you use on Speedlite Flash 90ex?
« on: June 23, 2014, 11:09:12 AM »
I just bought one to use on my G1 X at Amazon for $61, and found it controlled my 580 EX II on the G1 X and my 5D MK III.
Pretty cool little flash.  I use one on my 6D to control 430EXII's remotely.  I still rather have an in camera flash like the 7D for that purpose.

I sent an email to Tamron today asking about the 7D Servo tracking issues.  Here's the reply:

"We have not seen any tracking issues with the Canon 7D and this lens. Actually, we did our own testing here with the 7D and found that it worked properly. We also compared the lens with a Canon equivalent and didn't see any differences. Its true that some camera bodies track better than others but we didn't see issues with any bodies.  Naturally, shooting birds at 600mm  F6.3 is not an easy thing to do and I think some users may just not be used to shooting at this long focal length and F stop."

What's the latest from the CR group?  This lens appeals to me, but I want to use it with my 6D and 7D.

Too many CR1s on this site
Agree.  This has been a really boring period of time.

( I've just realised how to stop the attached images from not fitting the page - after two years - duh ! )
I haven't.  How to you get them to fit the page?

Image size has to have a width of 740 pixels or less
Thanks!
