One of the boons of dual card slots on the 5d3 -
From ML's website
"Since the 5D mark III has two card slots, we recommend running Magic Lantern from a small SD card that stays in the camera. All recording can take place on CF cards. The CF cards don’t have to be bootable or prepared in any way, and you can freely swap and format them without problems."
Woot!

Can't wait till full version is good to go. Also great news that they've finally cracked dual digic models, makes the 7d even more useful.

It depends on which camera you have, but there are some photography modes. The makers are more focused on the video features since that is why it started. There is a separate ML menu that is made accessible. You download it and put it on your SD card and follow the instructions.

Check out the link above for what it can do.

Looks like the 5DIII was not only hacked but they have a downloadable version for it right now.

Perhaps a story on that is warranted. This happened on the 12th.

Not exactly what was updated on the 120-300. Looks like MTF charts are the same. Perhaps it is lighter and focuses faster?

I was excited over the 17-70 until I read the website and it appears it is designed for a crop camera. I suppose it is an upgrade to the 17-50.

I own the current version of the Tamron 90mm Macro. It is pretty sharp. It suffers from some CA at 2.8 but still sharp and easy to fix in post. It would be nice to have VC so those hand held shots of bugs or flowers could be stopped down a little more.

The 70-200 upgrade will be interesting. Here is hoping they try to compete with Canon's 70-200L IS II in terms of image quality.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Samyang 24mm f/3.5 Tilt-Shift Announced

Samyang's 14, 35 and 85mm lenses are all very well regarded. The only issue is the lack of Autofocus. I've been toying with the 14mm for a while now, since the lack of AF is diminished as you go wider IMO. The ability to easily do panoramas with at 24mm may make it preferable to the 14mm since you'll get 2-4x the resolution as well.

I hate these threads... Everyone expects a 5D3 with a different name for half the price. Most of the time you get what you pay for. I'm sure if Canon did offer something like this, there would be so many complaints about purposely handicapping the camera with no this or that.

It would be interesting to compare the sharpness of the 1DX 1080 to the 1DC shot in 4K but downscaled to 1080. For those that want the highest IQ, the 1DC could compete with HD cameras if the extra PP conversion is not too much of a headache.

These comments are ridiculous. It appears everyone wants/expect Canon to produce a camera that is equal to or better than the 5D Mark III but for half the price.

I think most people are missing the point here. Canon is putting IS in all of these normal and wide angle lenses for video. (i.e. 24mm IS, 28mm Is...)

^^^ Essentially, it's about the lens and if you want shots like that you need a lens at least 5 inches long.

with that much light the same shots can be made with a Nikon 1 and the tiny 30-110mm lens.
He did not even get the ball or club-hits-ball once in a picture. ;-)

300 f/4.5 is nearly three times as long and nearly twice as bright than the 110 f/5.6, although, that is a nifty little lens.

Maybe an odd question at first glance, but there is a lot of substance behind it.  Canon in particular has pushed up prices of its higher end DSLR models to such a degree that the really need to produce something pretty special - the trouble is that they don't produce image quality that much better than the previous models.

Last month Canon held a management briefing here  The interesting thing is what they said about comming compact cameras:

"we will further differentiate and enhance our lineup by launching new cameras offering the image qualities that approaches SLR cameras; furthering the improvement in design and qualities, and by incorporating features such as network, connectivity capabilities."

Now I'm sure that there will be those who view this as some kind of heresy and won't believe that this is even possible, but have a look at these images taken with the Olympus E-M5 and a Canon FD 50-300mm f/4.5L and then ask yourself seriously if a DSLR would have returned better image quality.

Falling sales of high end product will reduce profits, and put pressure on manufacturers to raise high prices even higher, but what is the real point of paying so much for something which isn't returning images significantly better than those which can be obtained for a tenth of the outlay?  Of course we know that clients expect to see a big camera, better than something they might own, and for those users, there's little choice

An Olympus E-M5 and Canon 50-300mm f/4.5L essentially looks like this...

That is a huge set up... I don't think he would have noticed a DSLR making it 1/2" longer.
