Looking to expand some capabilities here. Have a few scenarios.

Will it be possible to use the new iPad as a external display while filming with the 5d MKIII?
Can it or the iPhone 4s be used to remotely view stills as they are shot?
Can either be used as a remote for the 5D MKIII?
Can it be used to assist in offloading a few photos and do some quick edits?

As far as that last one, I know the 5D MKIII now has an SD card slot, so you could just use the camera adapter kit for the iPad to offload a few quick shots and edit in the new iPhoto for iPad app or in a ton of other apps. Also seagate makes a wireless hard drive just for the iPad and similar tablets. The go flex satellite. We have used them in the past to off load stills and video in the field to be able to review on the larger screen and store in the hard drive. Not a bad set up, better than taking a laptop out there on video shoots just to get a better review.

I'm looking at the new hi def display of the iPad 3 and it would be amazing if it could be used as an external display in real time.

What do y'all think? With the new technology in the 5D MKIII and iPad 3 make any of this possible? Any other cool things that could be done with the Canon/Apple/Seagate trio that I may have missed?

None of the above.

EOS Bodies / Re: Who's in for a trip to the US ?

Hell, I just can't believe that 3499$ = 3499€ so I figured some things out :

- with today's rate, 3499$ = 2662,50€
- difference with european pricing is = 836,50€
- three days trip from Paris to NY, including flights and hotel is approximately 700€
- I've never been to NY before, and I could actually SAVE MONEY  if I'd go visit it ... WHO'S IN ??

And, by the way, although it's (maybe, maybe not) a humorous topic, it could help me knowing some things about taxes and toll controls : is it true that if I get there, buy a camera on the first day, and then shoot 1,000 pics of NY, I'll be able to go through the frontiers with a "used" camera ??? Won't they check the date I bought it and say "you're kidding us (US^^) you bought that three days ago !!" .... Thanks for your help / experiences ;)

You could consider to buy it @ Studio 73 in Belgium. I bought mine for €3299 (http://www.studio73.be/canon-eos-5d-mkiii-body). This way it comes with 2 years of guarantee (I guess it's only 1 year in the US). And you should indeed not forget to add sales tax to the US price if you're going to pick it up in NYC.

Why would we do that? it's stated above that in Switzerland it's 2820 euro's...

I dont know if i am allowed to post a link, but anyway:
http://www.digitec.ch/?param=toppreise&wert=235562

There are many others, which sell it at that price, but Digitec is great, because you can pick the things up at one of their stores.

get the other stuff first. please keep in mind that your upcoming lenses need to be FF.

I've seen great footage coming from the 500/550's. (rebel-series) it's not the tool, it's what you do with it.

Will the new 5dmk3 be able to record more than 12min?

Probably not, has something to do with a weird european tax thingy and laws that state that a videocamera starts from 12 minutes continuous recording.

Oh! and one thingy to think about, get the Zeiss with Nikon-mount (they have manual aperture selection) and (if you have some money left) go to an old-school camera fixer (the ones that know analog hasselblads and so on and so forth) and let them get the "Click" out of the aperture ring!! The best thing we've done with 2 of them! (the others we have are canon mounts... )

The reason we use Zeiss glass is for one reason only; They all look alike.

Canon optics are technically perfect, and the "High end" in DSLR. the problem with this (in my opinion) is that there is no consistency in the glass like Zeiss. I can see with all the Zeiss lenses that it is, in fact, a Zeiss. With canon way less. They are the technically great but have no ehm, how do i say this, personality...  :D there Zeiss looks like a model-family, Canon looks like a bunch of international-MIT-students. All great in what they do, but not one looks alike.

So if I am at a shoot i want all the shots to match. That's the reason for Zeiss.

Yes, Zeiss is manual focus, but currently we are at the "video-region" of the CR-Forum so MF will do just perfect. I never used AF, but then again, I allmost never take photo's.
Speaking of MF, The zeiss are more exact with manual focus, The 16-35 has a focus-pull of 0.45cm (or less) from 1 meter to infinity there where zeiss gives me a lot of centimeters for exact focus. Another reason for Zeiss when shooting film.

the prices in differ with canon indeed, but not like HurtinMinorKey pointed out, the differ between a 50 1.4 and a 1.2 is not an honest comparisation.  the Canon 50 1.4 is 325 euro's.  if i put the Zeiss against my girlfriend's canon 1.4 there is no way you can't see difference in the Bokeh.

GET THE mfn Zeiss allready :D
