And, yes, I do own one of the old ones, and tested four other copies all with the same faults.
Not faults, features.

I'm almost certainly to going to update mine.

Everyone seems to have mentioned the obvious choices (but, IMHO, I wouldn't bother with a Mac or a Dell).

But there is another new option in the colour accurate field- BenQ - if you need to consider some thing less expensive than a NEC or Eizo.

There is only a 24" version at the moment, but apparently a full line-up is coming.

This should revive slumping DSLR sales.

Do we know what other focal lengths might be coming in the 'Otus' range?

In addition to Dell and Lenova workstations, you might also want to check out HP.  I bought an HP 17" Elitebook back in '09 with a "dreamcolor" screen that's pretty functional to this day....

They don't make laptops with this screen anymore. :'(

I've been looking for a laptop for image editing on the road - I've given up.

Canon General / Re: What's so bad about HDR?
« on: July 31, 2013, 03:46:26 AM »
Anyone who thinks HDR is ridiculous, I'd like to hear why..

It's just another technique, whic can be done well or OTT.

My rule of thumb; if I look at an image and my first reaction is 'oh, HDR', then it's more likely to be OTT than done well.

Great news - this is exactly what I need for photographing my pet cat.

I don't think there is a lot of head room in the APS C format. Just how many pixels can you cram into that sensor size?

I calculated once that it would take over 46M pixels in a FF sensor to equal the density on the 7D.

And if you look at the sensor in the Sony RX100 - scaled up to FF, that around 150 MP.

All this just makes me wonder how long it will be before some innovative company comes along and 'Black Magics' Canon, with an EF mount body having something like 1DX performance at a 70D price.

Makes me smile just thinking about it  8)  Especially if that "Black Magic" body incorporated the Sony/D800 type FF sensor and came with the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 as kit lens, but in full frame version.  One can dream..
......and Magic Lantern supplying the software.

Would be a dream body.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: The Blackmagic Production Camera 4K

The problem with Canon is that they jerk their customers around too much with bodies.

Canon is well known to drag it's feet with innovation,

ridiculously old Canon 100-400mm.

The Nikon D800 nukes Canon in the megapixel department, the Sony NEX melts face off the Canon EOS M in every dimension.

Now the Black Magic cameras has mostly demolish Canon's video cameras. Not having RAW video is like not having RAW in photography. Canon's 1DC doesn't do raw video, ........ making the whole Canon cinema line up obsolete.

Now they are just a creaky old rotting corpse that releases overpriced products that are obsolete before they hit shelves.

Canon is an embarassment and they deserve it for sitting around and developing ridiculous products like the 70-300mm DO, touch screen DSLR's, t5i, a zooming fish eye to cover APS-C a..... worthless EOS M that autofocuses like a joke,

Canon's product development is a sad mismanaged joke and the writing on the wall is getting ever clearer, especially combined with their new ultra greedy pricing designed to alienate customers.

Tell us what you really think.

I wasn't stating that nobody needed more MP, I was pointing out that the numbers we have can be used to very great effect and I don't believe many people need more the vast majority of the time,

Well I do.

It's just what I need for better photo's of my cat.
I regularly print 4x6 prints of her, and I think the extra MP's will come in handy for downsampling to fix those out of focus shots.
I'm sure my old Canon MP600 printer will get a new lease of life when these higher quality files come through - I doubt you'll be able to tell that I print on plain paper.

Hurry up Canon, I need this camera!

Seems like a good model to re-introduce the eye-controlled AF.
