Lenses / 50mm 1.2L vs 35mm 1.4L for events photography...
« on: April 23, 2013, 04:06:21 PM »
Hi All, it's been some time since I've posted on this forum and once again I need all your feedbacks, mates!
I'm debating between the 50mm 1.2L vs. the 35mm 1.4L.  They are priced pretty similar, so price is not an issue.
I will be using this mainly for weddings.

Currently I'm using 5D M2 w/ 70-280mm 2.8 v2; 24-70 f4L & 50mm 1.8.
I find the 50mm 1.8 not meeting my needs in low lighting.

So, bottom line, which lens would you go for and why?

Thanks again!!

Software & Accessories / Lens Filter For Landscape???
« on: January 16, 2013, 06:42:06 PM »
Hi Fellow Photogs,

I'm going on a trip to Malaysia and Thailand soon and would like your advice on getting a lens filter for landscape shots.  I'm looking for something that would make the clouds and sky "POP".

I currently use a 'B+W 77mm (XS-PRO/NANO-MC) UVa #010M FILTER' on both my 24-105L & 70-200 f/2.8 II lenses for general protection.

Please provide me your suggestion & if you can also post some pics taken w/your suggested filter would be great!

Thanks again!!

Software & Accessories / Compactflash Card: SanDisk vs. Lexar...
« on: December 28, 2012, 01:38:42 PM »
Hi All,

I've always owned Sandisk memory cards before, be it SD or Compactflash.  I currently use two 16GB Sandisk for my 5D Mark II.  I have had no issues with them.

So what prompts this question if Sandisk's been issues-free?  Well, per CR, Amazon's currently having a deal on Lexar compactflash on the 64GB/400x & 128GB/400x for $85 & $170 respectively.  My questions are 2-fold:

1) Has anyone had any issues with Lexar compactflashes?  If so, what are they?

2) Would you have any issues it them being only 400x vs. 800x or 1000x?

Thanks for you input!

Lighting / Help with lighting setups for portraits...
« on: December 06, 2012, 10:48:52 AM »
Hi All,

I have never purchased any lightings and wouldn't know where to begin.
I just received B&H's weekly newsletter that has deal on this kit:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/665617-REG/Impact_EX100_Ultimate_Creative_Portrait.html

I would like to know what light kit you would recommend for indoor/outdoor photo shoots.  Simple portraitures and things like that.  Your help is much appreciated!

I currently shoot w/the 5D Mark II with 50mm 1.8 II; 24-105 f/4; & 70-200 f/2.8 IS II.
Have a tripod and speedlite 430 EX II.

Software & Accessories / Need Help: What type of DVD's do you recommend...
« on: September 25, 2012, 12:25:21 AM »
Hi All,

This sounds silly, but I've not burned any pictures on a DVD yet.  I've only save them on thumb drives and give them to friends I help take pictures for.  However, as I'm taking more photos for people, I have realized it's more practical to burn them into DVDs.  But since I've never done so, I'd like to ask everyone for suggestions on which DVDs to use?  Your help is much appreciated!

Do anyone uses a neck/shoulder strap other than the one that comes w/the ESO bodies?  I'm looking for a more comfortable one and would like to know for those of you that uses one other than the one provided by Canon upon purchase of a camera body.  I also have a slight concern on the safety/strenght of some that have easy release clips/buckles.  Are they secure?  I'm shooting w/a 5D M2 and main usage is for walking around the city and vacation and I could use one that's more comforting to the neck.  Thanks for your input!

Lenses / Which to get next: 35 f/1.4L or 16-35 f/2.8L...?
« on: September 12, 2012, 04:39:50 PM »
Hi everyone again.  Now that I've received responses on your feed back on picking the 16-35 over the 17-40 from my previous post, I am in need of your input again.  Here's my situation.

I shoot w/the 5D Mark II (griped) w/the 430EX
Other lenses I have now are: 1) 70-200 f/2.8 II     2) 24-105 f/4      3) 50 f/1.8 II

I assist with weddings/events, and shoot portraits.  I also shoot often on trips and vacations.

Which lens should I get next to better suit my needs:
1) 35 f/1.4 or
2) 16-25 f/2.8
or
3) some other lens you would recommend?

I can only get one for now.

Thanks again for your help!

Lenses / Which to buy: 16-35 f/2.8 vs. 17-40 f/4...
« on: September 11, 2012, 09:47:46 AM »
Hi All,

I'm at the point of researching and saving for my next lens.  It's either going to be the 35 f/1.4 or one of the following option: 16-35 or 17-40.  But my question is on the 16-35 or 17-40 option, I'm debating which one of these two to get.  Main usage is for:

1) Wedding (primary)
2) Landscape (secondary)

I'm shooting w/the 5D Mark II (w/430EX)
Please provide your reasons for choosing one over the other.  Thanks again!

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / Lens case for 70-200 f/2.8 II
« on: September 10, 2012, 01:53:54 PM »
Hi All, just a simple question but I'd like to know for those who owns this lens, do you use the Canon - LZ1326 Lens Case that came along w/the lens purchase or did you get something like the Lowepro S&F Lens Exchange Case 200AW?

By reading these two items, it looks like the Lowepro is more on the 'heavy duty' side?  What's the pro/con of each in your opinion?

My main usage w/this will be for walking around the city, assisting with weddings, on a Lowepro S&F Light Utility Belt

Thanks again for your input!!

Hi All,

I'm not sure if any of you have ever experienced the Shutter Speed on your 5D Mark II to be limited up to only 200 when the 430EX is attached to the camera AND turned on?  I'm been experiencing this every time lately.  However, when the speedlite is turned off (even while still attached) I do not have the same issue.  Please share your experience.  Is this a problem w/the camera or the speedlite?  Is there a Canon repair/servicing center in NYC area?  Thanks for your help!!

EOS Bodies / AF Focus Point on 5D Mark II...
« on: August 27, 2012, 06:59:58 PM »
Ok All, I just got my 70-200 2.8 II and so far it's awesome!  I had a chance to shoot a few portraits in natural light, when sun is almost setting and the lens just blows me away.

However, when I was indoor and had my aperture wide open at 2.8 and tried to shoot a couple zoomed in, the picture was focused on only 1 of the couple...the other person was out of focus.

I had my camera set at Evaluative Metering & chose Center Point focus.  What settings should I set it if I desire to shoot at f2.8 but have all parties, be it a couple or a group of people, focused?  What methods do you suggest?

Thanks for your input!

EOS Bodies / EOS 1DX vs. EOS 5D MARK III for Weddings,
« on: August 22, 2012, 01:53:39 PM »
Dear Photogs,

If price is NOT a concern, which camera would you choose for weddings, engagements, & portraitures?

1DX or 5D III, and why?

Lenses / NEED HELP!!! 70-200 F/2.8L IS II USM vs. 70-200 F/4L IS USM
« on: August 18, 2012, 10:37:18 AM »
Ok fellow Photogs,

I know someone just posted a very similar post but he was comparing the f/4 IS w/the f/2.8 non IS.
Canon's having another rebate and I just purchased the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II USM for $2200.  However reading some of the posts from the other similar question, I'm starting to think, should I return the 2.8 IS II & get the f/4 IS for a $1,000 less and use that to get my next desired lens, the 35mm f/1.4 selling for $1329 now at B & H. (total of these latter 2 options will be $2528, which is only $328 more than what I paid for the f/2.8 but at least w/this option, I have 2 lenses.

Now, I shoot w/the 5D Mark 2 w/grip and have the speedlite 430EX.  I also currently have the 24-105L and 50 f/1.8 II.  I do not shoot action, no sports, etc.  I do portraitures, scenery, vacations, indoors, and assist w/weddings here and there.  What's the better option for me:

1) stick w/the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II or
2) go w/the 70-200 f/4 IS & 35 mm f/1.4 (or something else/a prime you would recommend in this price range for what I'm shooting).

Please share you valuable insights
Thanks a lot!!

Software & Accessories / Good Camera Backpack for 5D Mark 2 &...
« on: August 16, 2012, 08:42:28 AM »
Hi All,

I know this is not the forum dedicated for this type of post (sorry), but I figured this is the forum with the most visits and posts, thus I'll likely get the most feed backs.  I'd like to know what's a good camera backpack you would recommend for light/semi-light travel (mostly walking around the city, & vacations) to fit these gears:

1) Canon 5D Mark II w/grip
2) 70-200 f/2.8 II
3) 24-105 f/4
4) 35 f/1.4
5) Speedlite 430EX II
6) spare batteries

Thanks again!
