You should not be concerned.  The light leak was a non issue, but Canon put a piece of tape in to plug it.  I'm sure that the production cameras had the same fix.

You have 14 days to return it, and a 1 year warranty.

The very first thing I do is to use FoCal to set the AFMA on all my lenses.  I might take a few quick shots first just to confirm its working, but without first doing the AFMA, I'd not worry about resolution and sharpness.

Somewhere in there, I take a dark frame and check for any excessive stuck or hot pixels, and a oof f/22 shot of a blank area of the sky to check for dust on the sensor.

Thanks Mt. SP!

Any suggestions on where to go (reliable one) to check current shutter count?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Just got my 5D Mk III (Refurbished) &....
« on: July 30, 2013, 03:14:14 PM »
Hi All, so all my postings regarding the 5D Mark III & w/all your helpful responses have gotten me to this point.  I just got my 5D Mark III !!!  I'm 1/2 excited & 1/2 don't-know-if-I-should-be-concerned.  I just got my 5D Mark III, and this being my first refurbished purchased ever (bought it directly from Canon Store), I have slight reservations.  So, I come to you all for some questions I'm not sure about.  First thing I checked was to see was the serial # and see which batch this body belongs too...to my slight concern, the 6th digit is a "1", so this belongs to the very first batch.  And of course this being refurbished, should I be concerned?  If so, what should I specifically look for.  Good thing is, it came with the latest firmware update, version 1.2.1 (so I can be somewhat confident Canon looked into & tested this camera & updated the latest firmware before putting it on sale).  I just wanted to throw this out and see what I should be concern and look for in particular?

Also, which site is the 'most accurate' in checking out the shutter count for this body?

Thanks again all!!

Software & Accessories / 5D Mark III firmware updates...
« on: July 30, 2013, 11:35:42 AM »
I have lost count on how many firmware updates for the 5D Mark III since its launch last year...but I'm sure there's been more than a couple.  With that said, I have a simple question: does updating the most recent firmware update include all the previous ones (I have never done an firmware update & expecting to get my 5D Mark III today as I wait for FedEx to deliver)?  Thanks!

Software & Accessories / How Long Does Your CF Cards Last...
« on: July 29, 2013, 10:56:42 PM »
Just a curious question.  I currently use both SanDisk Extreme Pro & Lexar Pro CP cards and have no issues with either.  I was just curious how long do you use your CP cards before you swap them for new ones (even if the old ones doesn't have any problems or breaks) as a cautious measure?

Software & Accessories / Importing images method...???
« on: July 29, 2013, 01:42:03 PM »
Hi All,

What methods do you use in importing your images from your camera to your computer hard drive?
Directly w/USB cord from camera to computer, card reader, etc.?

Any methods that would cause 'file/image corruption' more likely over the other?

Please state the reason for one over the other.

Thx!!

Get a refurb MK 3 from Canon using the CLP program.  Trade in a junked film slr or powershot for 15% off the refurb price.  Just Google Canon loyalty program.  They will want the serial number of the junk camera.  It is supposed to be broken.  They send you a mail label for it, it goes straight to recycling.

You might also try to see if they will discount a refurb 6D, they have them for $1569 now, and 15% off is better than a MK II.

Thx for the feedbacks All...& the cool info Mt SP...I just pulled the trigger for the refurb mark iii for $2545 that comes along w/a refurb camera should bag

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon Refurbished Cameras & Lenses

Thanks All for your feedback.  So I just purchased the refurbished 5D Mark III through the CLP...final price w/tax included came out to be $2545.88.  Crossing my fingers that I get a flawless one!!

Really?  What did you turn in for the loyalty?

That's my no-divorce price! :)

It's a P&S camera...I didn't have the model, serial # on me, but they processed the order for me w/o it and said they mail me a label to send in my broken P&S camera.  Yea, I find the price to be attractive.  I missed the BigValueInc. sale last week (same price), but there's +/- with both offers...BVInc./new, but no warranty...Canon/Refurb. w/one year warranty.  I would've been happen with either  ;)

and they threw in a  Refurbished Digital Gadget Bag 200DG for me too  ;)

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Refurbished 5D Mark ii or New Mark iii..???
« on: July 25, 2013, 12:54:16 PM »
Hi fellow photos,

So a few weeks ago I asked everyone whether to invest in a 2nd body or new lens (getting into wedding photography & assisting currently as 3rd/2nd shooter)...& everyone suggested 2nd body.  So now I'm in a dilemma w/which body to buy. I missed the opportunity in getting the mark iii for $2550 last week through BigValueInc.  So now, should I:

1) get a refurbished mark ii for $1400
Or
2) wait for another deal sometime this yr to get the mark iii (hoping to get it under $3k)?

I will eventually upgrade to a mark iii but w/the extra $ saved (by getting the refurb.mark ii now) I can use it towards a new lens.

Currently shooting w/:
5D mark ii
Sigma 35mm 1.4
Canon 50mm 1.8 ii
Canon 24-105 (will sell & use $ to get 24-70 2.8 ii along w/$ 'saved' from refurbished mark ii over mark iii. If I don't sell this lens, I would probably get 85mm 1.2 as next lens)
Canon 70/-200 2.8 ii

Please provide some insight & ur thinking behind it.  Thx!!!

Yes, it came in the box made for the kit - it's so labeled, and there's a photo of the lens on the box and a compartment for the lens inside (it looks the same as the box my 5DII kit came in when I bought it - with lens, that time - early last year, aside of course for the precise model details).  The boxes for camera body only are much smaller.

I guess that explains why they are able to sell it this cheap...cuz they are selling the lens separately.  Now, did you check your camera and see if it's from the old or new production.  My concern is if these are 'flawed' with light leaks or anyother issues Canon provided firmware updates on.

« Reply #20 on: Today at 02:21:09 PM »They had the same deal last week.  As I mentioned in a different thread, I called and was told there was no US warranty card, but I ordered one anyway last Wednesday evening, after they had closed for the day, and received it (free shipping) on Friday.  What I received was a kit minus the lens, which is fine with me.  It looks new (the shutter count was zero), it seems to work flawlessly (haven't tried video yet and may never do so), and unlike most of the digital cameras I've bought (including Pentax K-5, Canon 5DII and Olympus OM-D, my first copies of all of which I returned) the sensor is spotless.  So far, so good, then.  In the event I have a problem which Canon won't cover I'll report back....

Do you know if the camera is part of the newer batches?  With the light leaks and other issues fixed?

May I ask how you know it was a Kits bundle?  Did it come w/the Kit's box?
I have read somewhere here, don't recall exactly, that Canon may or still honor the one year warranty even if it's purchased w/o the warranty card?

I'm in the market for a 5D Mark III now...how many of you, if same w/me, would jump in on this deal?
