Lenses / Re: shooting into the sun...
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:04:42 AM »
Thanks everyone for your input.

No, I don't intend to shoot during any eclipses or specific pictures of the sun per say.

But I'm just concerned when shooting pictures constantly with the sun as the background and sometimes the composition would require the sun to play a bigger part of the picture.  I've heard that even this would harm the sensor/or lenses, but not sure.    So hence, my question.

Lenses / shooting into the sun...

Hi Photogs,

Would it harm my camera body or the lens if I shoot toward the sun?  If so, what type of filter protections can I get?  Please advise.  Thanks!

EOS Bodies / online photo courses...
« on: April 16, 2012, 11:00:45 PM »
Hi Photogs,

I consider myself an advance beginner and have developed a serious interest in photography. I have bought myself some new gears recently but understand that great photography takes a lot more than nice equipment. I've done some research online on online courses and basically came down to NY Institute of Technology or Photography Institute (if anyone knows of any others, please advise).
My goal is to become a professional on a part time, freelance, or full time basis. For now, my interest is in wedding photography. I understand there's some of you with the belief that I can learn these skills by reading books, learning on the internet and going out to shoot and shoot. I believe that too. But this could take me much more time vs. a organized, structured layout of an online course will likely be much faster in polishing my skills (on the learning techniques, etc.)
My questions to you who have taken an online photography course recently (I understand NYIP has had their share of negatives mainly due to outdated materials) either with NYIP, PI or any other programs. What are your experiences, positives and negatives?

Any other suggestions or feedbacks on pursuing my goal?

Thanks!

Hey Photogs,

Just wondering if anyone has ever taken any online photography courses with institutes such as NY Institute of Photography or the Institute of Photography, etc (or others, if so, which ones).  If so, please tell me of your experiences and input/feebacks.  Thanks!

EOS Bodies / Finder Mounting Frame...Does anyone uses one?
« on: April 04, 2012, 10:36:33 AM »
Hi All,

I just got myself a 5D Mark II and I'm loving the camera.  But one thing I find somewhat annoying is the smudges that would easily get onto the viewfinder, espeically since my face touches the viewfinder everytime I shoot.  I was wondering if anyone uses a finder mounting frame or anything else for that matter for that or just to protect the viewfinder from easily getting dirty.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

EOS Bodies / going on vacation...need help...
« on: April 03, 2012, 11:27:31 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm going to Italy in a couple of weeks for vacation.  I'm very excited for this trip!  I look forward to capturing some awesome pictures.  I've upgrade my body recently from a rebel to a 5D Mark II w/the kit lens (24-105).  I need your help on two things:

1) I'm looking for a battery grip...please recommend a quality, compatible battery grip for the 5D Mark II...

2) What's a good cleaning product/solution for the lens?

Thanks!!

Lenses / Canon lenses vs 3rd parties...
« on: March 30, 2012, 05:25:53 PM »
Hey Photo Folks,

I'm consider new to the photo community...well, at least most recently with intense regained interest.  I bought a Rebel 4 yrs ago and used it just for lesiure.  Recently, I just bought the 5D Mark II and got it w/the kit lens (24-105).  I also have the 50mm 1.8, but is looking to increase my lenses.  Should I buy mainly Canon L lenses or consider 3rd parties, such as Sigma and Tamron, etc.?   Your inputs are much appreciated.  Thanks.

EOS Bodies / please help...5D Mark II or 7D ??
« on: March 22, 2012, 03:45:17 PM »
Ok, I'm about to buy the 5D Mark II (can't afford Mark III), but have a slight pause and need some advise...

Should I go for the 5D Mark II or 7D?

I've only shot with the Rebel XSI up to this point.

I'm an amateur but likes shooting landscapes, portraits, and perhaps get into weddings later on when I get bettter.

Any suggestions??

EOS Bodies / Best Compact Flash Card for Mark II?

Hi guys, I'm about to get the Mark II, but was wondering which compact flash card would be best for it?

Also, would you recomment a 16 GB, 32 GB or two 16 GB's?

Thanks!

currently, I have the rebel kits lens, 18-55, 50mm 1.8 II, and tamron 18-270.  I just purchased the 24-105 last week, but returning that because I'm looking to upgrade my body, thus figured, it makes much more sense puchasing a new lens along w/the mark ii as a kit (either 24-105 for $3k at B&H) or 24-70 w/canon's current rebate.  * note, i'm looking to sell my rebel xsi, 18-55 and tamron 18-270 *

Lenses / which lens for 5D Mark II?
« on: March 20, 2012, 01:42:47 PM »
Hi everyone, I am going to get the 5D Mark II but not sure which lens to get along with it: 24-70 or 24-105??? (the next lens I'm going to invest in after this will probably be in a year with budget of $1,000 to $2,000).

I'm still an amatuer, and want to focus on landscapes (vacations), and portraits, but with the aim of becoming a wedding photographer.  But at the moment, I'm still learning (w/great interest).

Your feed backs are much appreciated!  Thanks.

EOS Bodies / Can i sell old gears for 5D Mark II?
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:45:15 PM »
Hi everyone.

I'm looking to upgrade to the 5D Mark II (can't afford the Mark III and don't need it right now), but a bit in a financial strap.  I can use any extra $$ I can get so I was playing with the idea of selling my old gears.  However, I've only owned one DSRL in my life: Rebel XSI, which I bough new when it came out 4 years ago.

Am I able to sell this:
Rebel XSI with the kits lens (18-55)
Tamron 18-270

Is so, what kind of price can I ask for this?  (all gears are in good condition)

Your feed backs are much appreciated!!  Thanks!
