EOS Bodies / Re: Should I buy the 5D Mark III Kit?
« on: April 12, 2012, 09:55:57 AM »
If you have to ask then you are not ready. When you are ready to buy it then you will not hesitate. Other than that I'm loving mine. I didn't buy the kit since I already have L lenses. I think it's more than worth it.

If you have a Mark III you won't need to get the 16-35mm anyone ;D Just pick up the 17-40mm.

XO Skins has a screen protector kit for both the main screen and the info LCD on the top of the camera. They fit perfectly.

xoskins.com

They don't. They're quite off and don't completely cover the entire screen.

Bottom line is people are obsessed with megapixels and couldn't be bothered with taking good photos with the tools they have.

Uh that's why you shouldn't rely on AWB. If you're shooting in tungsten light use tungsten WB etc..

EOS Bodies / Re: any screen protectors for MarkIII?
« on: April 05, 2012, 12:42:55 PM »
I ordered the XO skin and received it the other day and removed it hours later. I didn't like how it didn't cover up the entire screen. It's off by a few mm. Also I couldn't get rid of some air bubbles no matter how much I squeegeed it and waited for the bubbles to dissipate. The material felt solid though. 13 bucks down the drain. Looks like I'll go screen protectorless.

Yeah I agree with you on #5. I always found photos shot by Nikons off for some reason. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

These guys have done a pretty good comparison:

Just noticed in the specs that this camera doesn't shoot video... that's actually quite a shock, I've been using video mode on my 7D to shoot little videos of Jupiter etc so it's a shame that a dedicated astrophoto camera isn't capable of shooting video... for the price I would think video capability is a just a given nowadays? leaving it out and still charging that much? sure it's IR capable now but that modification isn't as costly as putting video in... hmm...

I like this move. Maybe Canon is returning to focus on making great still cameras for photographers who don't need video recording.

Lenses / Re: Canon lenses vs 3rd parties...

Invest in L lenses and never look back. Don't waste your money on 3rd party lenses.

Now if you hadn't given this as an advice but as a statement of your personal preference, there would be nothing to discuss about. But as it stands it's just the type of very bad advice that is frequently found in this forum and any shop would give you if they would want to give as much money out of you as possible. For aps-c (and not the op's mk2) its even more complicated, because part of the expensive glass ef lenses is not even used for this sensor type, thus it's even more strange to recommend L lenses for everything

It's not bad advice. It's from personal experience. I've wasted so much money on Tamron and Sigma lenses because I wanted to save a few bucks. And every time a disappointment. That money I could have used for L lenses. You only need a few. Pays for itself in the end.

Get the holy trinity i.e. 135mm f/2 L, 35mm f/1.4 L, and 85mm f/1.2 L.
