I can't believe I've already looked at this thread twice.... :P

I had excellent experience with them too.  I tried to buy the suite on a Saturday but there was a glitch and couldn't.  I wrote to them and complained.  On Sunday I was able to complete the purchase on my own.  On Monday CS wrote to me and offered a 15 percent discount for the inconvenience.  I thanked them but said I had already purchased the suite.  I got an email back from them saying they had looked up my account, refunded the 15 percent, and if I had any issues to get back to them.  In the age of customer disservice I was stunned.  I am grateful.

Nice Steve.  That's the kind of information that I'm looking for.  I have been looking at Topaz lately for the masking aspect but I can see that there is more to it.  I have not used DPP and will look into that.  Generally, I do LR, then PS, and then some Nik work.  Depends.  Your workflow gives me a place to start.  I appreciate your time and guidance.

He was quite funny today with his self-depreciating remarks about framing that bird.  It's nice to see some humor.  I was quite intrigued by his comments about postprocessing.  He seemed to have quite a few things he did to refine his image.  Anyone have a similar work flow that would benefit a fledgling birder?

Post Processing / Re: How to start using Photoshop
« on: October 06, 2014, 05:44:46 PM »
Hi Vincwat,
I have used Lynda.com to learn all the programs I now use. Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Premier Pro, After Effects, Sound Booth, and many others as you would see on the site.
All adobe certified instructors, have many levels of training well thought out progressions from beginner to advanced levels.
Photoshop lessons are broken into many different uses, as it's not just for photos, they have tons of tutorials.

+10  Lynda.com is a great way to learn.  I think it's about $25.00 USD per month or you can get a yearly subscription.  Try it out for a month and see how you like it.

Canon General / Re: Funny things I read on ebay about lens
« on: October 03, 2014, 06:48:26 PM »
I've either bought my gear on ebay or new.  Never had a problem with any of it.  Just sold a bunch on ebay and only had one problem with a non-payer and that was a camera bag.  I only buy from those with a rating of 100 percent and at least 50 sales.  Not fool proof but narrows the odds.

1.  Trust me.
2. I am selling my 5,000 lens I bought several years ago and only used it once.
3. I only used the lens for my kid's little league games.  It only looks like it has been run over.

Anyone else read anything interesting?

To me every photograph is a story.  As such it has context that incorporates time, place, and subject.  The juxtaposition of these elements make each unique and therein lies your opportunity as a photographer.

Lenses / Re: Do you keep all your boxes?

Yes, I have/had a closet full of boxes.  It helps with resale.

One thing I noticed when I clicked on an image was there didn't seem to be a way to get back to the main page.  The second time I clicked on an image I noticed the little 'x' in the upper right corner and was able to get back to the main page.  You might want to make the 'back' button more noticeable or say 'back to main page,' or something.  Best of luck to you.

Lenses / Re: how to get 300 2.8
« on: September 18, 2014, 01:50:18 PM »
I noticed the remark about the 300 f/2.8 IS Mk 1 having a significant difference from the MkII with the TC extenders.  If that's true I'll have to rethink the whole thing again.  IQ + Cost are the major considerations.
