Street & City / Re: Kansas City Skyline

Thank you all for the comments! Because of what you all and some others have said, I got a black and white version of this printed on a 20x40" canvas and have it hung in my apartment. Surprisingly, it's the first image I've ever had printed. I love it!

I have a very elemental question:  Does ML replace the Canon firmware, or work along side it with the Canon firmware still there, i.e. do I have the option as to which firmware I work with at any given time?
Diane

Yes, the ML firmware does not replace the Canon firmware. You install ML on your CF/SD card. You can also tell ML not to load by holding a button upon starting your camera.

If they only would provide focus bracketing, i'd use it often.

I'm pretty confident that they have had that feature for a while.

It's no Dubai, but Kansas City is my home and I love it! This was my first outing with my new (to me) 5D Mark II.

Lol, I understand where you're coming from. For me, I shoot landscapes and from what I have heard the FF does benefit here, and I am a big fan of shallow DoF in my portraits. Therefore I think the 5D plays more toward my tendencies than does the 7D.

The 7D uses the exact same CMOS image sensor as your T2i.  The benefits you'd gain with the 7D are entirely outside the area of (direct) IQ - faster frame rate, better AF especially AI Servo, more robust build, etc.

Which is why I went for the 5D. I wanted to see what kind of image quality I would get from moving up to FF.

For me, I believe my deciding factor with going FF was simply just that. I've had a T2i for 2 years now and have heard so much about FF being great. I don't shoot any sports and I want to give FF a go. The worst that can happen is that I decide I don't need it and sell it. I bought it used for $1550 so I feel like I got a pretty good deal on it.

Thank you all for the comments. I decided to pull the trigger on the 5D Mk. II. My bank account looks a little sad, but (hopefully) it'll be worth it. I'm a college student so being poor is nothing new.  :)

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 7D and 5D II that different?
« on: August 08, 2012, 11:12:51 AM »
Hello all,

I've been sitting on the fence between a 7D and 5D II for about 3 months now. I've been reading a lot online about the difference between the two cameras. I hear people talking about the "feel" of 5D images and how the color is better, but is it really that different or is it just pixel peeping? I'm not a professional wedding shooter, just a guy with a hobby. That doesn't mean I don't want the best, but that's a $600 difference that I'd rather not spend if I don't have to.

I mainly shoot landscapes and portraits of friends and family. Thank you!

I took this, among others, at a tractor pull in Ravenna, NE about a month ago. Used a T2i and 24-105. I was quite pleased with how they turned out.

I have a friend that has a NEX-5n and I've played with it a little bit. It's image quality is on par to that of a 7d for quite a bit less. However, I would never buy one simply because of the ergonomics. It's awkward for me to hold and I much prefer the larger body of the 7d, especially on long days of shooting. Not to mention I prefer the optical vf.

That being said, I easily see both styles of camera coexisting. I know many people, including my friend, that could care less about anything other than taking nice looking pictures. For them, mirrorless is perfect.

It actually was in a case. I have it in a Lowepro Flipside backpack. That's why I'm so surprised!

Wow... it was the former. I have no idea how I managed to turn that on seeing as it takes 4+ button presses to get to that setting. Either way, thank you!

Technical Support / T2i Mirror Locks Up When Not in Live View
« on: June 21, 2012, 09:43:47 AM »
Hello all,

Randomly the other day when taking pictures with my T2i the mirror would stay locked up when I would take a picture. In order to drop the mirror back down I would have to press the shutter button again. The image is properly exposed, but the mirror stays up for some reason. Any ideas would be appreciated!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5DMIII or 5DMII + Lenses, from a 550D?
« on: March 08, 2012, 10:44:03 PM »
Thank you all for the input. I think that getting a MII now will be best and then moving up to a MIII later on once prices have hopefully lowered. My only worry is the AF as my 550D's AF has been hit or miss on some occasions.
