I think it is nearly impossible to compare price of 5DIII and d800. beside the cost of producing the camera, there are many othere causes we don't even know about to bring up cost.
Least but not last, d800 has a newly developed sensor, with AF and meccanical part allready used in d3, d700, d3x, d4, . 5DIII is a completly new camera, with a new sensor, new AF, new body. This may be one of the reason of a higher price for the camera.

I think it's not only the price.  Upgraders from APS-C will find Nikon offering much easier to take.  Imagine if you're invested in DX (AF-S) glasses.  You can still take D600 and little by little upgrade your lenses.  It's besides the fact that it's offering it at almost the same price of 5D2.  Wow!
I can't se why buying FF to use it in crop mode, it is something I have never understood. Sometimes it can be useful cropping an image, but if i had to spend 2200 to buy d600 and using allways in crop mode, i would go for d7000 and some good glass.

EOS Bodies / Re: Is a 46mp Canon EOS-1 on the Way? [CR1]

It doesn't sound to be a cheap FF. Hope Canon will announce first a cheap FF, a sort of 5DIIn, then it can even produce 100mp camera, there will allways be someone interested in, but for my needs it is better a cheap FF... otherway i'll get a 5DII.

a couple of years ago canon released a paper with compatibility of its product with win7. EOS 5d is not supported by this OS.
You shouldn't have problem with 5DIII.

I don't see why testing the lens @f8. I am not going to buy that lens to use it closed. I used version I, I find it good stopped down, but i was not impressed when shooting WO. I guess new version is mutch better uset WO in low light. If it is not the case, I can't find a reson to buy a 24-70 2.8.

Lenses / Re: 135mm + 1.4 extender _VS_ 70-200mm f/2.8 IS mkI

I have both 135 f2 and 200 2.8. The 135 does not really like TC (i tried it with the 2x) . It is OK sometimes but IQ decreases a lot. 200 2.8 works better with TC.
200 2.8 is awesome, I think i like it more then the 135. And its bokeh is fantastic.
I would go for the 200 2.8

Odd, and unfortunate.  I haven't had any problems, AF works normally (except for the AFMA firmware bug) on 10 different lenses, including a 24-105L.

For some reason, AF fails to work - and I mean completely, it doesn't even try - with my TS-E 24mm II and MP-E 65mm.  I suppose I'll sort that out one of these days...   :P

I know what you mean. Same problem with my TS-E 24mm II on my 5D3 and 7D. Perhaps I should dig out my old 50D.  :)
It's not going to work. You may even try analogic camera but it seem AF is not going to work with those lenses. We my hope in firmware fixes, but must be done hunter's moon with lens mounted on a newly released 1DxII.

Canon made a eos to eos -M adapter, so that you can use any of the canon ts-e lenses on the new toy.
I don't think canon will produce something to trasform say a 24-70 to ts-e 24-70 2.8 L USM-

Lenses / Re: 70-200mm f/2.8 took a bad fall... Any advice?
« on: August 26, 2012, 03:05:24 AM »
I dropped several lense:
16-35 I had to change focus helicoids
200 2.8, 135 f2  and 100 f2 had to change USM
Theire cost was about 130 euros exept the 200 that was 200 euros.
I did not have any issues with lenses though.

get the 100 f2 USM, really sharp, really nice bokeh, fast AF and 1 stop faster then the macro lenses. For portrati it is much better.

PS I think it is even cheaper

Lenses / Re: Sigma 30mm f/1.4 or Canon 35mm f/2?
« on: August 14, 2012, 01:24:03 AM »
I'll give a try to the 28 1.8. It is a good lens with fast and accurate AF, good bokeh and colors. It may not be the sharpest lens WO, but it is sharp enough. If you close a couple of stop it is very good.
I have had it once and sold it for the 16-35 2.8... then i sold the 16-35 to get the 28 again. Now I use it a bit less just because i got the 35 1.4 L.

Do you need 1.4? Get the 50. Can you live with 2.8? Get the cheaper 40.
