EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Better High ISO

i think he meant shooting mRAW and sRAW in which, yes...megapixel is changed. However, image quality remains the same, you just get a smaller size.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mk III vs D800/E, is the 5D3 better at anything?

    • Autofocus in video.  I'm not a videographer, and I don't make movies.  But I'm a dad and I take pictures of my kids' sports.  I don't have the skill or desire to learn to try and manually focus 7 yr olds playing soccer.  Sure, I can buy a video camera, but then I have to lug extra equipment around, and still have inferior glass to what I already have for my DSLR

You may find that the autofocus in video will leave a lot to desire, it's nowhere near the level of camcorders.

I am not satisfied with the 5D Mark III, mainly because low iso banding should truely not be an issue in this day and age.

Im pretty sure real world use would even see the banding some people are claiming. The supposed banding that was discover took extreme extraction and manipulation, things we would never resort to even when trying to recover shadow details.

Photography is my hobby and i get paid for a few projects and shoots here and there. I myself do a lot of portraits, high fashion, editorial looking stuff.

It was pretty hard to predict what they would do to the 5D, but i love what im seeing. The price is steep based on previous models but i think what it has evolved into is justifiable. Coming from a 7D and playing around with the 5D3 RAW's im very impress by the image quality.

I find it suspicious that the Nikon D800 has been announce one month ahead of the Canon 5D3, yet the 5D3 has a ton more sample and reviews out already.

Maybe it's just my eyes, but the 5D3 images seems cleaner than then D3s and D4. It looks even better when i resized the 5D3 down to the D4's. When converting the RAW file from the 5D3, i get much sharper results and very high ISO's have nice grains.

i've been a long time lurker and have finally decided to register.

On the night of announcement i went to Amazon and refreshed their 5D3 page every few minutes as they updated. As soon as it was available for pre-order i jumped on it. Im within minutes so i hope im one of the very first in line. I shoot with a 7D and have been wanting to upgrade to full frame...and this is the perfect opportunity.

Just out of interest what time Amazons link start working? (and what time. One are you?)

I got the 5d3 in their search soon enough but the page it linked to was a broken link still at 2am EST when I went to bed.

I can't remember exactly what time because i was up late reading every piece of info i could find, but i do remember refreshing that broken link often and as soon as it showed i pre-ordered. I just check my hotmail and Amazon sent me the confirmation at 2:16am. Im central time zone.
