Take a look at this link for pics with cameras on kites.

You can do it using the EOS Utility or you can simply copy the .FIR file to the root directory on your SD or CF card.  Then press Menu on the camera and go to the Firmware option.  You can upgrade from there.  Also dont forget to remove the FIR file or format your card.

Ok, I'm feeling pretty dumb right now.  ???-I went to the Canon website to load the new firmware to my computer. The only thing coming up an update procedure PDF. Is the firmware hiding in there somewhere. Help would be appreciated:) Thanks in advance!
So go here:
http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_5d_mark_iii#DriversAndSoftware
In the first drop list select the OS.
In the next drop list select the version

Next click the Firmware link below.

Now under "File Description" you will see "EOS 5D Mark III Firmware Version 1.2.1 [<Operating system>]".
Click it.

That will lead to a Disclaimer and an End User License Agreement and a button that reads "I Agree - Begin Download" (I would not have capitalized "A", "B" and "D" - but then that is me...). Click it to download the firmware.

Hope this helps.
Ok, I know this sounds boneheaded.....
I've found the firmware update to download, but I don't see the instructions there on HOW to install the firmware safely on the camera...?

Am I missing the link there on this?

Thanks,

cayenne

East Wind and readycool are both right. Looks like it is best you unzip the file and look in the folder. There are instructions in 5 languages. Take your pick...

I mean, I never bought or used Nikon. So what do I know of the colour of the lens?

That should give you a gold plated approval already ... Stop messing about with those captchas. ;D
The captchas are cool. It is these darned trick questions that get me... :)

So if asked "what is 2 and 2" the best answer is "it depends" (and that works for most questions too - try it out - you would be surprised...)

So is this an arithmetic question, is it a binary logic question, or is it just messing with your mind? I can elaborate - the answers are:
A.  4
B.  2
C.  22

See, It is hard to answer such questions...

Damn ... I've been trying to explain to the shareholders that the answer is 5 and that is not even listed as an option
Hmmm 5
Simple. Obviously you are not an engineer. You are an economist. So we need to add inflation. I'd say that is option D.  5 = (4+4)  + 20%...

I stand by my signature line....
Absolutely!

Well, sometimes it is hanging from your shoulder. Or from your neck (depending on the type of strap).
Or you left it in the car.
Or at home (and somebody mentioned those so please note I am not taking credit for them...)

However, the bestest camera ever - from my experience - your eyes. 3D video and stills. All in one package. And no need to download via USB cable :)

Lenses / Re: Lens Not Focusing

1) Confirmation tone focus in manual or auto mode. When a signal is try to open the aperture and maximum use sunlight outdoors or infrared light external flash. 2) Clean the contact lens with the body, flip through the manual-auto switch on the lens a few times, rotate the dial aperture in manual mode a few times, may have dust on any contacts. 3) Turn off the camera, remove the battery, hold the body without the adapter, and then insert the battery, turn the camera (reboot). 4) Try a different lens.(Google english)
OKO-SAN has a point. If it is electrical contact related...

Would like to know how it gets resolved. And then there always is Canon service centers...

LOL! Really! The poor guy is having a bad day. Don't pick on him. :)

Good one though. Made me laugh.

All three responses are gems. You need to check your lens behaviour with respect to each of these responses.

Man I am glad I registered when I did! I went to the register page to check out the captcha and questions and I am guessing I would have flunked!

I mean, I never bought or used Nikon. So what do I know of the colour of the lens? I could guess - they are the dark side so may be dark grey or black?  ;D

jrista.....by the power not vested in me, you are hearby awarded the photographers Purple Star for injuries sustained in the line of duty ;D

-edit-

I think this would make a cool thread..."What I had to go through to get the shot"
I would like to wade and make my way through all that stuff to get the shot but I'm always worried about these...

I saw one grab a huge Great Blue Heron a few weeks back and in one fell swoop, it was gone!
Wow! Thankfully none of those kind of creatures were at the lake that I went to :)

I guess the 100-400 helps ;)

Canon General / Re: new canon lens caps

however, I am willing to bet that the circular cap shows up rectangular... ;)

I bet if you used the 8-15 set to 8mm, you'd get a blacker black circle in the middle, and the vignette would look gray...  :o
That could be, but it is a corner case - boundary condition - whatever...
Sure is a slow year for DSLR bodies isn't it? ;)

:D finally got'em :P

now that you have had the new lens caps for a while, what are the advantages?  disadvantages?
I thought that the high points were:
  • No need to grow nails to extreme lengths
  • A picture with that cap on shows up black - however, I am willing to bet that the circular cap shows up rectangular... ;)
