EOS Bodies / Re: 5D mark iii video issue..

Yeah, you will have that at shutter speeds faster than 50 or so. I generally keep it at 30 when shooting video. You wouldn't have this problem in natural lighting but the frequency of the artificial lighting will cause those scanning bands in the video mode.

What was the whole minimum resale price ordeal about then? This is huge.

I would recommend a newbie to go with the 5DM3 + 24-105L kit

I think recommending a $4,300 investment to a newbie photographer is poor advice.  A used 40D with a 28-135mm lens for $600 is more than enough for some one who is new to photography.

Oh sorry, I meant, if the said newbie was set on getting a 5D3, I would tell him/her to get it with the kit lens.

Thanks for the insight Mt Spokane!

OK, an issue demands clarification for me, as I am not well-versed in Nikon gear. The article recommends going with Nikon if you are a newbie with no lenses, and lists the $500 price difference as one of the justifications. As far as Canon gear goes, I would recommend a newbie to go with the 5DM3 + 24-105L kit which has a list price of $4299 and is found in the market for somewhere between that and $4000 but let's go with $4299. Now I don't believe the D800 comes with a kit lens, so what is the total price of a equivalent system if one was to go with Nikon? Does a $500 premium still remain once you get a lens equivalent to the 24-105? If you have no gear the first thing you'll need to buy will be a lens and with a beast like D800, you better get something that can catch up with that sensor.

The noise around that right arm in the first picture is just beautiful. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8164/6960253520_8e813fa6c5_o.jpg

Dear Martin,

Long time lurker here. I was not planning on registering but I simply could not take any more of your little show. I have been taking notice of your consistent behavior throughout several topics and just decided to skim through your posts and oh, boy... You began, months before 5DM3 was released, complaining about this and that, how you used to be a Nikon-guy a year ago and were seriously contemplating going back, and you go on to complain about leaked 5D specs, and when 5D comes out, you complain a little bit more, followed by further complaints about sample images. Each time with a definitive statement on how that is it and you are certainly switching back to Nikon. "I know it is going to be expensive but I have to do it". OHHH-KAY! We are bloody idiots on the verge of jumping ship and you are that guy who will give the final nudge, eh? And if that's not it, that's even worse... Like if you do not have a hidden agenda and are simply somewhat neurotic. Because people are taking your comments seriously and responding to your monological rants.

Please, let it go.
