EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Overly Hot Hotspots On 5Dmk3
« on: March 25, 2013, 06:11:42 PM »

The 5D Mark III has MUCH more highlight headroom and MUCH cleaner shadows than the 5D Mark II. I've extensivly compared both and carefully studied both of these aspects for a review website.

Your camera is deffective or you are mistaken. You also might have the camera set up wrong such as auto lighting optimizer set incorrectly.

I agree... if your dynamic range is worse than the 5D Mark II, something's definitely wrong with either your camera or your processing.

you could buy a 7D . . .

I've heard those things take decent photos occasionally . . .

I think you're barking up the wrong tree.  Judging by the comments above, most of the people posting on this thread don't take photos... I would be surprised if any of them even own a camera.

Canon General / Re: Lens Rebates Extended & 5D Mark II $400 Instant Rebate
« on: September 30, 2012, 10:24:03 AM »
I'm a bit confused; Is the 5D2 after rebate 1299$ or 1799$?

It's 1799 with the rebate.

Same price it's been everywhere for the past month or so...  ::)

EOS Bodies / Re: Shutter count request to Canon.

Ps. I think $1.59 is pretty reasonable to satisfy idle curiosity.  :P

It's a bit steep to pay for a fictional shutter count, though...

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Big Canon EOS 5D Mark II Price Drop Coming
« on: September 29, 2012, 12:10:59 PM »
$100 off isn't exactly a "big" price drop...

Shipping the camera so quickly is nice, but having to wait three months for a decent RAW converter takes a lot of the fun out of it.  Even Nikon's own Capture NX2 doesn't fully support D600 NEF files yet.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Does Zeiss glass ever go on sale?

Aden Camera in Toronto has some great prices on Zeiss lenses right now - they are by far the cheapest I've seen anywhere.

You'll need to add the lenses to your shopping cart to see the price.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Rented a D600
« on: September 28, 2012, 12:15:32 PM »
Sounds like you need to sit down and read the instruction manual - a lot of your complaints could be remedied by changing a few settings.

The ergonomics of the D600 aren't as good as my 5D Mark III, 7D, or D800e, but there are really only a few minor annoyances as far as I'm concerned (like not being able to review an image by pressing the "ok" button in the centre of the rear dial like on all of my other cameras...).  Once you set the controls the way you like and get used to the camera, it works pretty well, and the image quality is light years ahead of the 7D.   :)

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 3D X [CR1]

This may be the optimized studio/landscape offering from Canon. The specs certainly look very good. I particularly like that ISO 25 feature.

I would love to see even lower (useable) ISO's... perhaps down to ISO 6 like some of the Kodak DSLR's had.

The crazy-high ISO's are just a waste on landscape cameras.  I'm tired of having to spend hundreds of dollars on neutral-density filters just to be able to get useable apertures and shutter speeds.

Lenses / Re: 5D Mark III / EF 85 1.8 - General Portraiture AFMA

Of the dozens of Canon EF lenses I've owned and tested since Canon introduced the MA feature, I have yet to find a single lens that has needed *any* MA adjustment.

It means they have dropped their prices $20 below what most of the reputable stores have been selling it for... maybe hoping to attract some business.

According to one reviwer who must not be named  ;), the Nikkor 16-35 F4 is noticeably sharper than the 14-24 f2.8. That tells me that Canon needs to work hard on their Zooms.... looking at the TSE 24, we know they can do it.

Only in the very centre of the frame... but on the edges, it's (much) worse than the Canon 17-40L.

Canon General / Re: Adorama issues anyone? Ever try to return a product?
« on: August 16, 2012, 10:10:13 AM »
I've never tried to return a product to Adorama, but I did have to spend several weeks fighting with them after they charged several thousand dollars to my credit card and then refused to refund it when they couldn't supply the item I had purchased.  I'll certainly never deal with them again.  >:(

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5D Mark III - Price Drop Details

I guess all bodies with the light leakage issue dropped in price. So one can find a body for $3000 in US online.
However, B&H sells newer version and the price is as of today $35000.
Cheaper version: 5260A002
B&H verision: 5260B002

Not 100% sure, but pretty much convinced about the statements above.

Another B&H ripoff... there must be a $31,500 rebate coming from Canon soon.
