EOS Bodies / Re: Amazon shipping 1DX yet? (status?)
« on: July 13, 2012, 05:44:34 PM »
I just canceled my Amazon order for the 1DX because Crutchfield shipped it first!

I just got notice that my 1DX has shipped from Crutchfield this afternoon and will be in my hands by early next week! The amazing part is that I just got on Crutchfield's pre-order list on 7/11, and it shipped out today! (Big Thanks to Sephknite for posting about his similar experience with them!).

I am posting this in a couple of threads to both give kudos to Crutchfield for an awesome turn around time and to let the rest of you know that if you are "far back" in a queue at one of the other vendors and really want the camera as fast as possible, you should at least consider getting on the Crutchfield list, as they, like others, don't charge your card until the camera ships. They seem to have a very "short" queue right now (last I read was 8 in line, and now I'm out of the line and so is the guy in front of me).

I had been one of the first to order on Amazon, within two hours of when the camera became available for pre-order on 3/16. Since then, I have not been able to get a bit of information out of Amazon about either where I was in the queue or when they expected to receive a shipment. After receiving my shipping confirmation from Crutchfield, I canceled my Amazon order.  Now looking forward to getting the camera in my hands next week.

So, interesting update. I placed an online order today and then called to see where I was in the queue.  They said that they currently have only three (3) cameras on backorder, and that I am number 2.  That said, they don't know when they will get their next shipment.

Either way, I have to say that it's a lot nicer to have some visibility to where I am on the list with Crutchfield than to have zero visibility into where I am on the list with Amazon. I am a longtime, and loyal Amazon Prime customer, and they are great, as someone else mentioned, when product is in stock.  But I hate the lack of visibility into when they will receive and ship pre-ordered product.

I guess we'll see which organization gets a shipment first (or ships mine first anyway).

I just contacted crutchfield and the CSR said he did not have access to how many preorders have been placed, where I would stand in line, when the next shipment is, and how many would be in the shipment...

That's just weird. But consistent with the same kind of inconsistent responses others have gotten from B&H customer service reps when asking similar questions of them. I suspect some CSRs know how to access the inforamation and are willing to provide it, and others are less experienced (and therefore don't know how to access it), or are just unwilling to do the extra work, so they claim that the "do not have access."  You KNOW the information about orders vs. inventory is going to be in any modern inventory control system, and the only issue would be whether CSRs have access to it or not.  When some report they do, and others report they don't, the most likely explanation for the latter is a knowledge or motivation gap. You might try again with a different CSR, tell them you have communicated with two other people who were given this information by their CSRs and ask if there is anyone else you can talk to, like a manager.

I asked for an update from Amazon customer service today, and they responded with, "We just do not have a definite date as to when we will receive our inventory.  Once they are ready to ship, we will send you an email to let you know the tracking information and the estimated delivery date."

So, I placed another pre-order with Crutchfield and then called to see where I was in their queue.  Turns out they have a very short queue, and I am number 2 out of 3 cameras they have backordered at the moment.  They said they do not know when they will get their next shipment in, but at least I know I am likely to get mine shipped out of that batch whenever it it received.  Another partipant in these forums reported ordering from Crutchfield on 7/5 and getting his order shipped on 7/9.

I may be in exactly the same boat with both vendors (meaning I'll get the camera as soon as they get a shipment), but it "feels" better knowing where I am in the queue with Crutchfield AND that they have actually received and shipped some cameras already (a fact I cannot yet confirm with regard to Amazon).

Update: Crutchfield has shipped the 1D X as of this morning. I should be receiving it soon. Yay!  ;D

Sephknite, congrats! That's an impressive turn around time from order to shipping.  Were they pretty good about providing you with information about expected upcoming shipments and when you might receive your camera?

I ordered from Amazon back on March 16 but have not been able to get any info from them about when my camera might ship. Based on past experience, it might be tomorrow, or it might be several weeks. So, I'm considering placing another pre-order with Crutchfield and seeing which can deliver first.  Any thoughts?

Thanks! For me, my credit card comany called to confirm a charge. As soon as I did and checked my email, I saw a message from Crutchfield that it had already been shipped. They have a lot of available agents on their website to check your orders with, and they're pretty responsive. I was in the same boat as you with Amazon. After I talked to one of the reps at Crutchfield, I figure I try them out since they won't charge my card until item is shipped--let them race against Amazon. I guess they won!

Both places allow you to cancel. Once I got the UPS tracking updated, I canceled with Amazon since my pre-order was a bit late in May anyway and wouldn't expect the first batch to include my pre-order. I would definitely give Crutchfield a go. Visit their website and chat with their reps online. Good luck!  :D

Thanks! I think I'll give that a shot and see which can produce a camera first.  Given your experience, I wouldn't be surprised if it is Crutchfield.

IIRC Amazon was a week behind B&H and Adorama for shipping the 5D3...

YMMV.

Not that it's super important for this thread, but I reviewed the threads about the availability of the 5D Mark III to be sure before I posted.  The 5D Mark III began shipping from B&H, Adorama, and Amazon the week of March 22, 2012.  People were posting on a thread devoted to Amazon shipping of the 5D III saying that they had received their shipping notices and/or their cameras from Amazon on March 22, same as the other big retailers.

That said, it may not be holding true for the 1DX, so I'm still hoping for some confirmation from others who may have purchased from Amazon.  I'm not in a super big hurry, but would like to know if I'm likely to get it in the next week or so.

Has anyone received a 1DX shipped from Amazon yet or received a shipping notice?
If so, please post the date and time you ordered and when your camera shipped and/or was received.

Maybe it was a mistake, but I waited and pre-ordered from Amazon because I missed the first several hours of the B&H pre-order opportunity and figured I would be way back on the list. Seeing that Amazon usually ships within a day or two of B&H for cameras like the 5D Mark III launch, I decided to try to get at the front of the Amazon pre-order list. I was able to pre-order within an hour or two of when it was possible on Amazon, but they are a black hole when it comes to information about new products that are not widely available.

I know B&H has shipped a small number wih more shipping today and early next week. Hoping to get some similar intelligence about what Amazon is doing (because their own customer service people don't know).

So, if you ordered from Amazon, post what you know!  My order briefly changed from "not yet shipped" to "shipping soon," stayed that way for about 18 hours, and then changed back to, "not yet shipped." Gotta love it.

I ordered mine from Amazon a few minutes before 6:00 p.m. on March 16.  This was within an hour or two of when they started taking pre-orders, as they started two days after B&H. So I was one of the earliest pre-orders on Amazon.

Within the last hour, my shipping status changed from "Not yet shipped" to "Shipping Soon."

I'll post an update when I get an actual shipping notice and tracking number, but I thought some of you out there might like to know that Amazon appears to be receiving some 1DXs on a similar schedule to B&H and may be shipping soon as well.

EOS Bodies / Re: So, still no news of 1DX hitting stores in USA?
« on: June 30, 2012, 10:22:23 AM »
My local AD told me the latest news they heard from Canon last week was they'll be getting a batch in by the end of July...  then, the rep promptly said "given the recent delays, I wouldn't be surprised if late July turned into August".

Chewy, forgive my ignorance, but what does "AD" stand for, and what kind of store or organization do you work for?

Pre orders are starting to be delivered to Olympic Photographers and big news agencies, you are not going to find one sitting in a store for 6 months or more.

Maybe not, but does anyone have recent information about when early pre-orders may start getting filled by stores like B&H, Amazon, Adorama, etc., that don't care if you are an Olympic Photographer or not?  Surely they will get some stock soon.

In this case, if 1DX@51200 = 7D@3200 then DxO tells me the 1DX should be 1 to 2 stops better at high ISO (using the SNR graphs) than the D4/D800E. Now if that holds true and is present right up/down the curve, then the 1DX represents not only a new sensor but newer sensor technology than is in the 5D3.

I would like to see an ISO 51200 real world comparison to the 5D3: same location, same lens, same exposure value...

Just take a look at the side by side comparison in the 1DX review posted on the CanonRumors home page today.  It provides exactly what you are asking for.  The author provides high ISO sample photos of the same subject shot with both the 5D Mark III and the 1DX, and then puts 100% crops right next to each other so you can compare them side by side.

Wish granted!

I have photos finally with me, it took some time, cause of size (1.74 GB) they were traveling by regular traffic lines from Ukraine - Poland, instead of internet  So it took some time.

I'm checking what can I get out of this pictures while they upload. They are hand shot pictures, like this one:
http://www.canon5dtips.com/downloads...O/B57I2676.JPG
(ISO 6400 NR-ON) (70-200 mm f/2.8L USM @200mm)

I'm adjusting white balance to Auto, instead of As Shot, cause color and WB is not important for this test, trying to crop them to look same, for comparison and online article.

I still have to figure out, but I think I got it, we have 4 photos with same ISO, 1 is without NR, one is with NR and both in RAW.

I did request much more from what I got, from frist look..  I guess there was no time to play around as much as I hoped. There are no small ISO examples. But I do think it will be enough to see how camera handles High ISO.

I have 80KB/s upload and it will take 6-8 hours to upload all pictures, in meantime I'm checking, and writing article. Will keep you updated, sorry for kept you waiting.

Just a quick message, I am new to the forum and I posted a message earlier but don't know we're I posted it! Yesterday I recieved an email and a phone call from Calumet Manchester to tell me that my 1DX has been dispatched from there London depot to Manchester. I then Got an email from FedEx with a tracking number, I have been tracking it all morning and I am just waiting for it to arrive at the store, should be there for 2 o'clock today! I will post a picture as soon as I get it today. Hope this cheers everybody up with all the doom and gloom surrounding the delay with people even claiming this week that we would not be getting the camera untill September by the way I am not a professional or a cps member just a normal customer who ordered the camera  back in October just goes to show you can't believe everything you read!

Great news! Saw your post in another thread too, so thanks for sharing the information.  It's good to know that the U.K. is starting to have cameras ship. I hope we'll see the same in the U.S. any day.  Look forward to an update from you later this weekend on how your pickup went and what you think about the new camera.
